To balance her work and life.B. To have more time to relax.C. To avoid too much stress in life.D. To stand out as a special woman.5.What perhaps made the author become a member of EY?______A. The time spent discussing her plan.B. Her relationship with the interviewer.C. Her great confidence in the interview.D. The interviewer's understanding her.6.What does the author advise to apply for a flexible job?______A. Trying to seize every opportunity one can get.B. Persuading the company to change its hiring policies.C. Being honest about one's personal life outside of work.D. Convincing the employer of one's responsibility for the job.7.What can we infer about her job from the passage?______A. It weakened her ability.B. It made her highly noticeable.C. It limited her career promotion.D. It caused her to earn less money.C"When someone is rude to you,it can put you in a bad mood.It may even lead you to be rude to someone else, creating a chain of rudeness. In fact, this troubling chain may even be caused by simply seeing someone be rude to another person. You don't even have to be the target of the had behavior," stated a researcher. The researchers worked with 81 persons, with occupations ranging from security to business to medicine, who were asked to complete online surveys over a 10-day period.Participants recorded their moods when they woke up;and in the evening, they described their experiences over the course of that day. Each morning the participants also viewed a short video, describing workplace interaction of some kind.Half of the mornings, the video included some kind of rudeness while the other half had some kind of warm interaction in the workplace.Rudeness was conveyed through various means, including a lack of eye contact or unpleasant language.Participants who watched the rudeness videos reported seeing or experiencing rudeness during the day,and they were also more likely to escape from fellow employees to avoid being the victims of rudeness themselves. They reported their overall work suffered that day as a result. Not all participants were affected by the rudeness videos, however.A few weeks before the study began, the participants completed an evaluation that measured their self-confidence and emotional stability among other things. The participants who scored higher on this evaluation were significantly less likely to be influenced by the rudeness.Consequently, one of the researchers recommended that companies hire managers who can limit exposure to rudeness, provide plenty of positive reinforcement (强化)and build a civil workplace environment. This,in turn, could help employees build their confidence levels and help them better handle workplace rudeness.8.What is Paragraph 1 intended to show?______A. The popularity of rudeness.B. A regular cause of rudeness.C. A new finding about rudeness.D. The common disadvantage of rudeness.9.Why are the short videos played for the participants?______A. To make them spread rudeness.B. To educate them on workplace interaction.C. To expose them to various aspects of rudeness.D. To teach them how to use right body languages.10.What is the probable effect of watching the videos on some participants?______A. Being unwilling to work.B. Poor ability to do their work.C. Serious emotional sufferings.D. Less interaction with others.11.Who may not be affected by the rudeness videos?______A. People positive and kind to themselves.B. People keeping calm in stressful situations.C. People owning confidence in others' ability.D. People participating in the rudeness experiment.DA recent study finds that the dirt on the ground is likely to worsen climate change.Researchers have shown that warmer temperatures are heating the soil, which is causing microbes (微生物)to become more active and release more of the soil's carbon into the atmosphere. These soil changes can potentially contribute to even higher temperatures.Scientists studied device readings, soil measurements, plant growth details and satellite observations from around the world.Their work is the most complete study on the subject. They found a sharp increase in carbon released into the atmosphere by bacteria and fungi (真菌)in soil from 1990 to 2014.Researchers explain that the carbon comes from the dead plants and leaves the microbes eat.As temperatures rise, the microbes eat more. And the more they eat,the more carbon can be made into carbon dioxide and released into the atmosphere. This uncontrolled cycle speeds up and intensifies climate change.Overall, soil releases about nine times more carbon than human activities. But that is part of a natural cycle:the amount of carbon released into the air is about equal to the carbon oceans and plants take in.However, carbon released from fossil fuel causes an imbalance.Burning coal, oil and natural gas puts more carbon into the atmosphere than nature can take in.The additional carbon heats the air and soil. And as the air and soil get hotter, the earth will release more carbon than it has been holding. If something isn't done,we are really in trouble.Proper soil conservation can help keep more carbon in soil.Conservation methods include avoiding turning the soil, covering off-season crops and leaving crop deposits on the ground.12.Which word can best describe the scientists' research data?______A. Rich.B. Rare.C. Limited.D. Difficult.13.What does the underlined word "intensifies" in Paragraph 4 mean?______A. Causes.B. Demands.C. Strengthens.D. Shows.14.What mainly causes the soil's temperature to rise?______A. Active bacteria.B. Human activities.C. The overuses of soil.D. The wastes of fossil fuels.15.What can be a suitable title for the passage?______A. Warmer s oil and more carbon.B. The soil and the environment.C. The microbes and the temperatures.D. Hotter air and warmer environment.二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分)Think of everything that could go wrong in your life. What if your city floods tomorrow and you lose your home? What if a tornado passes by and you are struck by flying objects, leaving you with several broken bones?Or maybe next year you crash your car and are badly in need of a life-saving surgery.(1)All of these incidents, terrible as they are, require money to fix.(2) With an insurance policy, you are given a safety net which you can land on in the event that anything terrible happens to you or your family.(3) As a partof this plan, you will have to pay a premium (保费).It is a monthly or yearly payment to an insurance company. If you do have an insurance plan, then in exchange for your premium money,an insurance company will agree to cover the cost of whatever accident may occur to you.(4) For example,if you tend to get sick a lot,you will have to pay more in your premium because it is more likely that you will go to the hospital. In many ways, getting an insurance plan is a bit of a bet.(5) However,by getting an insurance plan, you can ensure that you will always have a safety net to land on if anything terrible does occur,as you have a guarantee that at least some portion of the cost will be covered by your insurance company.A.What will you do then?B.We should have the sense of insurance.C.And this is where insurance comes into help.D.There are some ways to help you handle the problems.E.Your payment usually varies based on your risk factors.F.Insurance companies offer insurance plans to people in need.G.You never know whether you will have an accident in the future.16. Biologist Edmond Mouton runs the nutria control program for Louisiana. He says it's not easy to convince people that nutria fur is green, but he has no doubt about it.
