In the morning, we went camping along a path in Green Natural Park. We were happy because it was a sunny day. We were expecting an enjoyable two - day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes.

However, in the afternoon, when we finished our picnic at one o’clock, it was dark and windy. Soon, there was a shower. Unluckily, none of us brought an umbrella. We ran about but we could find no place to hide.

Twenty minutes passe d and it was still raining. There were hours to go before we reached the camp site (营地). It was even worse that our small compass showed that we went to the wrong way. We had lost our way!

We had to make a quick decision as it was raining heavily. Chris said we could set up a tent to hide in, so Mary and Tom helped to set up the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm. But we were unable to light the fire, as everything was wet. We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent. At about

five o’clock, it stopped raining. We decide to give up the camping trip because all of us had been very tired.

This camping trip may not be very successful but we know each other better. And the most important thing I’ve learned from this trip is the importance of team spirit.

The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.

Man has been polluting the earth. The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, many moved to another place. But this is no longer true. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.

Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily.

Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. They stop people from burning coal (煤) in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air.

Pollution by SO2 is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. If there are less people who drive, we will make our world less polluted.

The earth is our home. We must take care of it. That means keeping the land, water and air clean. And we must take care of the rise in population at the same time.

There have been many6 great inventions that have changed the way we live. the fir st great invention was one that is still very important today - the wheel. This made it easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distances. For hundreds of years after that, there were few inventions that had as much effect as the wheel did.

In the second half of the 19th century, many great inventions were made. among

them were the camera, the light and the radio. These are all a big part of our lives today. In the first half of the 20th century, we saw more great inventions. For example, the helicopter in 1909, movies with sound in 1926, the computer in 1928, and jet planes in 1930. This was also a time when a new material was first made. Nylon was made in 1935. It changed the kinds of clothes people wore.

By this time, most people had a very good life. People had a desire to explore the world again. People knew a lot about the earth, but they didn’t know much about the universe. They began looking for ways to go into space. Russia made the first step. Then the United States took the second step. Since then other countries, including China and Japan have done so too.

In 1969, man took his biggest step from the earth. Two Americans walked on the moon. This is certainly just the beginning, too. New inventions will some day allow us to do things we have never yet dreamed of.

One day a man found a cocoon (茧) of a butterfly in the forest. He sat there for several hours and watched the butterfly. Suddenly a small hole appeared, and the butterfly tries to make its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it could not go on coming out.

So the man de cided to help the butterfly. He cut off the rest of the cocoon so that the butterfly could come out easily. But to his surprise, the butterfly got a heavy body and very small wings when it came out of the cocoon.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would

grow smaller at any moment and the wings would become larger and be able to fly. But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling (爬) around with a heavy body and small wings. It was never able to fly.

The man was in his kindness, but he did not understand the nature rules. Before the butterfly came out of the cocoon, fluid (流体) from its body must be made into its wings, and then it would be ready for flying. It must have a hard struggle (拼搏) to get through the small opening to get its freedom (自由) from the cocoon.

After you cut out the template, cut your cellophane (玻璃纸) to fit the holes in the glasses. Make sure you place the red cellophane on the left eye and the blue on the right. You can either stick our tape t he cellophane in place. You are now ready to use your glasses.

To learn more about why your eyes see different colors, read this article: To learn more about why your eyes see different colors, read this article: http: // nzphoto. tripod. com / sterea / anahpyphs. hitm JHJredcyan.

To learn some more cool things about your eyes, check out the games at this link: http: // facutly. wahington. edu / chudler / chvision. html.

Another way you can make 3D glasses is to find an old pair of sunglasses. Take out the lenses (镜片). Get a piece of clear plastic and place the lenses on it, draw a line around the lens and then cut the new plastic lens out. Place the plastic lenses back into the sunglasses frame. Color the left lenses red with a marker and the right eye blue. You now are ready to watch 3D films.

Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the seaside to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his writing. One day he was walking along the seaside. As he looked down the beach, he saw a person moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn’t dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, “Good morning! What are you doing?”

“I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

“The sun is up, and the tide (潮汐) is going out. And if I don’t throw them in time, they’ll die.”

“But, young man, don’t you know there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish are all along it? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The moon isn’t round on the 15th of August but of the eighth month of Chinese.

The moon is seen because of the reflected (反射) light from the sun. When the moon is between the earth and the sun, we can only see the side of the mon not shone by the sun, except when a solar eclipse (日食) happens. As the moon goes ton around the earth from the west to the east and leave the middle place, we can see the bright part. Its like a letter “C”but is in an opposite directio n. This is called “new moon”. The opposite direction “C”becomes thicker and thicker with the moon moves on. When the earth is between the sun and the moon, because the earth and the moon are not on the same surface, the sunlight isn’t stopped by the earth. At this time, the moon is full, like a round silver plate. And then, it moves on and the part shone by the sun becomes smaller and smaller until it looks like a “C”, which is called “old moon”, And the “C”becomes thinner and thinner until it again moves to the place between the sun and the earth. Then another round begins. Chinese people have a kind of calendar (历法) according to the movement of the moon called lunar calendar (阴历), its 15th and 16th day is the time of “full moon”. The fist day of a lunar month is the time of the “new moon”, the ending, “old moon”. Usually the beginning of the lunar month is just the middle days of the solar calendar (阳历,公历), so never expect to see a bright moon on the 15th day of a solar calendar month.

I was very disappointed not to be able to go to the jazz concert last Friday.

The notice in the paper said that people could buy tickets at the theater box office

in Richland Hills any day between 10:30 a. m. and 3:00 p. m. Since I work from 9:00

a. m. to 5:00 p. m, the only time I could go to the theater was during my 45-minute

lunch break. Unluckily, the theater is on the other side of the town, and the bus

the trip. So I gave up and went back to the office. The same thing happened on Tuesday,

and again on Wednesday. On Thursday, my luck changed. I got on a bus right away.

When I got there, however, I found a long line of people at the box office. I heard

one man say he had been waiting in line for over an hour. I knew I would not have

enough time to wait in line. So I caught the next bus and went back across the town.

By Friday I decided to make the trip by taxi. It was expensive, but I felt the concert

In 2018, IPhone5 came upon the stage of all over the world , which is the 5th generation(代) iphone since the first generation appeared 6 years ago. It is like a real super star and attracts everyone. In fact, iPhone is more than just a phone. It makes many powerful functions in one. that means you can make calls, listen to music , take photos ,check E-mails and do many things you like on your iphone, for over 150 thousand programs can be downloaded in the Apple Store . All that and more makes iphone4 the best phone you’ll ever use.

Different from other traditional mobile phones, you can just find a home button on iphones, Of course, no keyboard can be seen when you don’t need to telephone or send short messages, but when you move your finger on the touchscreen(触摸屏), the whole world is in your hand!

The touchscreen of the iPhone is based on the technology of Capacitive(电容)screen. When the screen is touched, the charge (电荷) from the human body can affect the charge from the capacitive screen which is behind the surface screen, and pull a small amount of charge of the touch point, creating a voltage(电压) hill, then the charge from four corners of the capacitive screen runs to the voltage hill. So the CPU can deal with the place you touch. Because of this, capacitive screen can be controlled with very light touches of a finger or even two but generally cannot be used by a gloved hand. Because most gloves stop the necessary charge. This kind

of touchscreens is widely used on other Apple’s products such as itouch an d ipad. No one can doubt that iphone is as popular as Lady Gaga, What surprise can be given by Apple and what can change everything again?

备战2018年中考英语阅读理解专项练习(含答案)

中考题阅读理解 ___题组训练1_ [名著阅读] A[2017·宿迁] Emily and Anne did know, of course. They had known about Charlotte's book for a long time. Jane Eyre was not the first book that Charlotte had sent to a publisher. Over a year ago she had written another book, The Professor, and sent it to one publisher after another. Each publisher had sent it back, in a packet addressed to Currer Bell. And then Charlotte had sent it, in the same old packet, to another publisher, and then another, and got it back again. “Why didn't you change the paper on the packet, my dear?” I asked. Charlotte smiled. “I didn't think of it, papa. The worst day was when we were in Manchester, going to the eye doctor. Do you remember? The packet came back then. That was the day before I started writing Jane Eyre.” “Do you mean that you started writing Jane Eyre while I was lying in the dark room in Manchester?” “That's right, papa.” “But that's only six months ago, and here is the book in my hand!” “Yes, papa. The book was printed a month later after I sent it to the publisher.” “My dear! They decided very quickly that they liked it, then!” “I think they did, papa. After all, it is a good book, isn't it?” She smiled at me. I don't think I have ever seen her so happy. She is a very small person, Charlotte, and not a beautiful woman; but when she smiles like that, her face shines like a fine painting. My wife used to look like that sometimes when I first met her. I took her hand in mine. “It is a very good book, my dear. I cannot tell you how proud I am.” She touched my hand. “Thank you, papa. But you must not be proud of me alone. You know, another two of your daughters—Anne and Emily…” “Oh no, Charlotte, please!” Emily said. But Charlotte did not stop. “Anne and Emily have written good books too, and their books will soon be published as well! Let me introduce them to you, papa. These young ladies—Anne and Emily, are “not”your daughters—they are separately Acton Bell and Ellis Bell, brothers of the famous writer Currer Bell!” Emily's face was bright red, but Anne and Charlotte started laughing. I was very surprised. “All three of you!” I said. “But…but why do you use these strange names?” “Because people are stupid, papa.”Anne said. “No one thinks women can write good books, so we have used men's names. And now they say that Currer Bell is a writer who understands women very well!” She laughed again. ()1.Why didn't Charlotte change the paper on the packet? A.Because she hated to change the paper. B.Because she liked the paper very much. C.Because she had no money to buy the paper. D.Because she didn't think of changing the paper.
