But most people call it Grand Central Station. The word “station” means a stopping place along a transportation line. A “terminal”describes either end of the line. Grand Central Terminal is a huge train station where train lines begin and end.American railroad developer Cornelius Vanderbilt was responsible for building the first Grand Central Terminal in 1871. Thirty years later, steam trains were being replaced by electric ones. So officials decided to destroy the existing station and create a new electric train terminal. Their plan called for hiding the rail tracks under four city blocks and permitting developers to place buildings over the track area. The new Grand Central Terminal opened in 1913. It was a huge and beautiful building with statues of Greek and Roman gods and a large metal clock. Its presence led to the building of large hotels, office and apartment building nearby. Grand Central also changed during the years. At different times, the huge building included an art gallery, an art school, a movie theater, and a rail history museum. In the 1950’s, other transportation methods became more popular than trains. The railroads were losing money. They began destroying old stations. In 1967, New York City established an organization to save such historic buildings. In 1976, the federal government protected Grand Central Terminal by naming it a National Historic Landmark.Grand Central Terminal has been restored and improved. Today, it includes many stores, eating places and food markets. Five hundred thousand people visit the famous building every day. And it continues to be one of the busiest train stations in the world. More than 150,000 people use it every day to travel to towns in New York State and Connecticut.Part 5 Memory test: Bus Information(Bus information: Recorded message number one)Hello and thank you for calling Greyhound. 我为高中生活做准备作文英语范文

我为高中生活做准备作文英语范文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Getting Ready for High School LifeWow, I can't believe how quickly time has flown by! It feels like just yesterday I was a tiny little kid starting kindergarten, and now I'm about to be a high school student. So many big changes are coming my way. I've heard high school is a whole new world compared to elementary school, and I'm honestly feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves thinking about it.My older cousins have told me crazy stories about their high school days篇2Getting Ready for High School - An Essay by a 5th GraderWow, high school! I can't believe I'll be heading off to big kid school in just a couple years. My older siblings have told me so many stories about high school - the freedom, the classes, the activities, the drama! It all sounds both exciting and a little scary. But I know if I prepare myself now while I'm still in elementaryschool, I'll be totally ready to take on high school like a champ when the time comes.First off, I need to get my study habits locked down. In high school, the homework is going to be much more challenging than the worksheets and projects I'm used to now. I've heard there are big research papers, tons of reading, and harder tests on the horizon. No more slacking off or leaving assignments until the last minute! I will start setting aside time each night to rev up my study muscles. Maybe I'll even make a schedule or routine to follow so studying becomes an ingrained habit before I ever step foot in a high school.Staying organized will also be key. My backpack is a pit of crumpled papers and old snacks right now, but that won't fly in high school when I have a ton of classes, materials, and due dates to juggle. I'm going to get one of those awesome binders with the color-coded separators for each subject. And maybe a cute pencil case to keep me motivated! Having a system for my notes, handouts, and assignments will prevent anything from slipping through the cracks.Speaking of classes, I need to sample a wide variety now to see what I like. They say high school is when you start getting electives and can explore potential careers and interests. Howcool would it be to take classes like wood shop, graphic design, culinary arts, or website coding? This summer I'll ask my parents if I can take any camps or workshops to try new things. Getting exposed to different subjects now will help me pick the right electives when the time comes.Extracurriculars are another big part of high school from what I hear. Between clubs, sports, volunteering and more, there are so many opportunities to get involved. And colleges love to see that stuff on your applications later on. I've always wanted to join the drama club and try out for school plays and musicals. Or maybe I'll go for student council to start building my leadership skills. This year I'll talk to my teachers and parents about joining a few activities so I can start exploring my interests and hobbies beyond just academics. One thing that both excites and scares me about high school is all the freedom and responsibility. No more staying in the same classroom all day with the same teacher holding your hand. You have to be self-motivated to get to each class on time, manage your workload, keep track of due dates and commitments. It's like getting a bite-sized taste of college life! To prepare, I'll start taking on more independence and ownership at home and school. Making my own lunch, doing my choreswithout reminders, keeping a calendar - anything to practice being organized and responsible.Overall, while high school sounds thrilling, I know enough to be a little apprehensive too. It will be a whole new level of independence, academics, activities, and social situations to navigate. But if I use my last couple years of elementary school wisely to prepare, I'm confident I can handle whatever hallway dramas or project frenzies get thrown my way. By developing strong study habits, organizational skills, personal responsibility, and a sense of what activities interest me, I'll be walking those hallowed high school halls as a focused, well-rounded student before I know it. Just don't expect me to shop for篇3Getting Ready for High School LifeHi there! My name is Emily and I'm in 5th grade. Next year, I'll be starting high school and I've been thinking a lot about how to get ready for this huge change. High school seems like a whole new world compared to elementary school. I've been talking to my older friends and siblings to get the inside scoop on what to expect. Here's what I've learned so far about preparing for high school life.First off, the workload is going to be much heavier. In elementary school, we really only had a few subjects and classes each day. But in high school, you take around 6-8 classes per semester on all different topics. That means having to study and do homework for several classes every night instead of just one or two. I've been practicing my time management by making daily schedules and to-do lists. I want to get in the habit of budgeting my time wisely so I don't get overwhelmed.I've also started working on my note-taking abilities. Good note-taking skills are essential for high school since you have to absorb so much new information every day from lectures and readings. Over the summer, I'm going to practice tactics like using an outline format, abbreviating words, and incorporating diagrams or visuals. Mom and Dad have been letting me take notes during family meetings to get extra practice!Another big difference is that you change classrooms for every subject in high school instead of staying in the same room. That means using a locker and having to be responsible for bringing all the right materials to each class period. I've been doing locker practice with an old locker we got from a friend. I sort through my backpack supplies at the "locker" betweenclasses to make sure I'm prepared. It's been really helpful for building that skill. One thing I'm most nervous about is finding my way around the huge high school campus. My elementary school was so small and compact. But most high schools are massive with multiple floors and buildings. I've been studying the map of my new high school diligently. I've also been taking walking loops around my neighborhood to build up my endurance for all the traveling between classes I'll have to do.Speaking of walking, I'll have to become an expert at lugging around my heavy backpack too. In elementary school, our backpacks were pretty light since we kept most supplies at school. But high schoolers have to carry all their books, binders, laptops, and supplies for the whole day. My back has been getting a workout by wearing my stuffed backpack on long walks.I may have permanent dents in my shoulders from the straps by the time school starts!Another major part of high school life is getting involved in extracurricular activities and clubs. This is something completely new since elementary school was really just classes and recess. I've been making a list of the different teams, organizations, and volunteer opportunities I want to check out after school. Gettingexperience in varied activities will help build a well-rounded resume for college applications down the road. One area I feel pretty confident in is learning to be more independent and self-motivated. Elementary school was very hand-holding with teachers guiding you every step of the way. But in high school, you're expected to take more responsibility for your own learning and progress. I've been practicing this by setting my own goals and holding myself accountable without my parents nagging me. It's been hard, but I know it will pay off.Another skill I need to work on is asking for help or clarification when I'm confused about an assignment or lesson. In elementary school, the teachers would check if we all understood before moving on. But from what I've heard, you have to be more proactive about speaking up in high school. I've been doing role-playing scenarios with my parents where I practice rephrasing things or asking follow-up questions. One major item on my high school prep checklist is getting familiar with technological tools like laptops, writing software, online platforms, etc. Elementary school was still verypaper-based, but I know most high school work and assignments happen digitally now. I've been borrowing my dad's laptop andtaking online tutorials to become more tech-savvy before 9th grade. The social side of high school seems totally intimidating too. Going from a tiny elementary school community to a huge high school filled with older students is scary! That's why I've been going to my soon-to-be high school's sports games, plays, and events this past year. It's helping me start recognizing faces and getting a feel for the school culture. I've also been making conversation practice with strangers by asking adults questions at the grocery store or making small talk in lines. My confidence is growing! One thing I know will be very different is controlling my time outside of school hours. My parents were always supervising me closely in elementary school. But in high school, I'll have much more free and unstructured time. To prepare, my parents have been giving me self-imposed "curfews" to follow in the evenings and on weekends for fun activities like TV, gaming, etc. I have to manage my time wisely beyond just homework. As you can see, I've been hustling this past year to get mentally and physically prepared for life as a high school student. Is it a lot to take on all at once? For sure! But I know if I start developing good habits now, the transition will be muchsmoother. I can't wait for ninth grade. Sure, it will be challenging, but I'm ready to level up! Just call me a high school ninja in training. Wish me luck!篇4Getting Ready for High School LifeHi there! I'm an elementary school kid, and I'm so excited to share with you how I've been getting ready for high school. It's a big step, but I've been working hard to make sure I'm prepared for this new adventure.First things first, I've been focusing on my studies like never before. I know that high school is going to be a lot more challenging than elementary school, so I've been hitting the books extra hard. Math has always been my weak spot, so I've been practicing my multiplication tables and solving equations until they're second nature. English and writing have been a breeze for me, but I've still been working on improving my vocabulary and grammar skills. One of the biggest things I've been doing to prepare for high school is trying to develop better study habits. In elementary school, I'll admit, I was a bit of a procrastinator. I'd often wait until the last minute to do my homework or study fora test. But I know that won't fly in high school, so I've been working on time management and staying organized. I've got a fancy new planner where I write down all my assignments and deadlines, and I've been setting aside dedicated study time every night.Speaking of organization, I've also been getting ready for high school by decluttering my room and setting up a proper study space. I've got a nice desk, a comfy chair, and plenty of shelves for all my books and supplies. I've even invested in some cool desk accessories like a lamp and a pencil holder to make my study area feel like a real workspace. But it's not just academics that I've been preparing for. High school is also a whole new social scene, and I've been working on developing some important life skills. I've been practicing my public speaking skills by giving presentations to my family and friends, and I've been working on my communication and teamwork abilities by participating in group projects and activities. One of the things I'm most excited (and a little nervous) about for high school is the opportunity to join clubs and extracurricular activities. In elementary school, I was always too shy to get involved, but I know that high school is a chance tostep out of my comfort zone and try new things. I've been researching different clubs and sports teams at the high school I'll be attending, and I've even started practicing some potential hobbies like photography and coding.Another big part of my high school preparation has been learning to be more independent and responsible. In elementary school, my parents and teachers were always there to remind me of my responsibilities and hold my hand through everything. But in high school, I know I'll need to be more self-reliant. So, I've been taking on more chores and responsibilities around the house, like doing my own laundry and cooking simple meals for myself. I've also been practicing time management skills by keeping track of my own schedule and making sure I get to places on time. One thing that's been really helpful in my high school preparation is talking to older students and getting their advice. I've been picking the brains of my older siblings, cousins, and neighbors who are already in high school or have recently graduated. They've given me lots of great tips on everything from how to study effectively to how to navigate the social scene. Hearing their firsthand experiences has been invaluable inhelping me understand what to expect and how to thrive in high school.篇5Getting Ready for High School LifeWow, I can't believe I'm almost done with middle school! It feels like just yesterday I was a tiny little kid starting kindergarten. Now I'm practically a grown-up getting ready to enter the big leagues of high school. I've heard so many stories from my older cousins and neighbors about what high school is like. Some of it sounds awesome, but I'll admit, a lot of it also sounds pretty intimidating! I know the next four years are going to be really important in helping me figure out my path in life. I want to make sure I go into it with the right mindset and habits so I can make the most of this pivotal time. One of the biggest things I need to work on is my study skills and time management abilities. In elementary and middle school, the workload was pretty manageable even if I procrastinated a bit here and there. But from what I've heard, the amount of homework, projects, and tests in high school is no joke. I'm going to have to really stay on top of things and use my time wisely. No more leaving assignments until the very last minute!I plan to get myself a nice big wall calendar to write down all my assignments, tests, activities, and important dates. My dad also showed me some really useful apps and websites for making schedules and to-do lists. Developing strong organizational skills now will make a huge difference. I also want to start building better study habits like taking great notes in class, reproducing information through flashcards or outlines, and figuring out the ideal environment for me to concentrate. Some of my friends like complete silence, but I might work better with a little background music. It's about experimenting and figuring out what routines click best for my learning style.Speaking of learning styles, another huge part of preparing for high school is getting more self-aware aboutmy academic strengths and weaknesses. In the lower grades, the material was more general and one-size-fits-all. But now there will be a lot more subjects to choose from with varying levels of depth. I need to take an honest look at the areas I excel in and struggle with in order to pick the right courses and get the academic support I need.I've always been pretty strong in math and science, but writing has been an area I've had to work harder in. Knowing this, I'll probably opt for more writing-intensive classes like literatureand composition to really hone those skills. Or maybe I'll even join the school newspaper or creative writing club. For subjects I find more naturally difficult like chemistry or foreign languages, I'll look into getting a tutor or forming study groups with classmates. The highs of understanding a challenging concept make the struggles worth it.The academic side is only one part of the high school experience though. I also need to mentally prepare for all the scary-yet-thrilling aspects of social life that suddenly get brought into the mix. Dealing with cliques, gossip, peer pressure, young romance, and general teenager angst are going to be totally new territories for me. While I'm both nervous and excited to finally experience some of that "high school movie" drama I've watched for years, it's something I'll have to learn to navigate carefully and smartly. One of the most important things will be choosing my friend group wisely and developing strong values about who I want to be. This is the time when it's really easy to get influenced and pressured in all sorts of ways, good and bad. I want to surround myself with other students who have clear goals, make ethical choices, and will motivate me to be my best self through positive peer pressure. That doesn't mean everyone has to be a perfectangel, but just people with fundamentally good character. I'll also want to be open-minded and befriend all kinds of different personalities from various backgrounds and subcultures. The loner goth kids and jocks might seem like total opposites at first, but you never know who you'll click with and what you could learn from each other.Making friends is also so much easier when you get involved in extracurricular activities that interest you. This is somethingI'm really looking forward to in high school – finally getting to explore different clubs, sports, volunteer organizations, and getting a taste of diverse passions beyond academics. I've had my eye on maybe joining the theatre club or trying out for the tennis team. Or perhaps I'll resurrect my childhood dream of being a journalist for the school news channel. The options are endless! Extracurriculars are not only amazing for making friends, but also let you discover hidden talents while boosting your college applications along the way.篇6Getting Ready for High School: An Elementary Kid's GuideWoohoo! I'm almost done with elementary school and about to start high school soon. High school always seemed like thisbig, scary place filled with huge teenagers, tons of homework, and crazy hard classes. But now that it's right around the corner, I'm starting to get excited! My older brother is already in high school, so I've been picking his brain to get the inside scoop. He's given me lots of helpful tips on what to expect and how to get ready. Here's what I've learned so far about preparing for this huge new chapter:Classes & AcademicsOne of the biggest changes in high school is the classes get a lot tougher. My brother says I'll finally be done with the basics like reading, writing and math. Instead, I'll take more advanced courses in things like literature, algebra, chemistry, and foreign languages. He warned me that there will be way more homework and bigger projects than in elementary school. I'll need to get really good at time management to stay on top of all my assignments. No more leaving things until the last minute! It's also important to ask the teacher for help if I'm struggling with anything. The teachers want us to understand and do well, but they can't read our minds. We have to speak up!My brother regrets not asking for more help early on when he was confused about things.Getting InvolvedMy brother stressed how important it is to get involved in extracurricular activities in high school. Joining clubs and sports teams is a great way to explore interests, make new friends, and pad my college applications down the road. There are so many options - academic clubs, arts groups, recreational sports, student government, and more. I'm really excited to check out the robotics club since I love tinkering with electronics. And maybe I'll go out for the tennis team too since I've played forever. My brother's biggest regret was waiting until his junior year to join anything. He said it's better to sign up for a few things early as a freshman, then you can always quit anything you end up not liking later.Social SceneI've heard a ton of crazy rumors about the social scene in high school. Apparently, there are super tough cliques, lots of drama, and something called "peer pressure" that I need to watch out for. My brother assured me the rumors are overblown, but High school is just a larger, more diverse place with more types of people. His main tip was to be myself and surround myself with positive people who share my values and interests. There's no need to change who I am just to fit in with a certain crowd. It's better to walk my own path and be confident in myself. He also said not to take the social hierarchy and "popularity" too seriously. The people a lot of people fawn over in high school usually end up being nowhere once graduation hits. What matters more is treating everyone with kindness and respect.Dealing with StressWith all the new academic demands, activities, and social situations, high school can definitely feel overwhelming at times. My brother warned me to be ready for some stress and anxiety, especially early on as I'm still adjusting. He gave me a bunch of tips for keeping my cool:Get enough sleep (at least 8-9 hours a night)Stay organized and plan ahead for big projectsMake time for fun activities and hanging with friendsTalk to a parent, teacher or counselor if I'm feeling really anxious or downExercise, meditate or journal to blow off steamMost importantly, he said I shouldn't get too discouraged. That first year can be a tough transition, but by sophomore year, I'll be a pro and loving high school life.Overall AttitudeMy brother's overall advice was to go into high school with an open, positive mindset. It will be a big adjustment with more freedom and responsibilities, but also incredible opportunities to grow, make lifelong friends, and explore new interests. He encouraged me not to listen to all the negative hype about high school being awful. If I work hard, get involved, and keep an open mind, these could be some of the most fun, rewarding years of my life so far.I'm definitely a little nervous, but mostly just super excited to start this next chapter! Elementary school was awesome, but I have a feeling high school will be even more amazing. Only about a month to go until I'm an official high schooler. Here I come!。
