2023考研英语一阅读理解Text3部分试题及答案解析

2023考研英语一阅读理解Text3部分试题及答案解析2023考研英语一阅读理解Text3部分试题及答案解析:Text 3If you’re heading for your nearest branch of Waterstones, the biggest book retailer in the UK, in search of the Duchess of Sussex’s new children’s book The Bench, you might have to be prepared to hunt around a bit; the same may be true of The President's Daughter, the new thriller by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. Both of these books are published next week by Penguin Random House, a company currently involved in a stand-off with Waterstones. The problem began late last year, when Penguin Random House confirmed that it had introduced a credit limit with Waterstones “at a very significant level”. The trade magazine The Bookseller reported that Waterstones branch managers were being told to remove PRH books from prominent areas such as tables, display spaces and windows, and were “quietly retiring them to their relevant sections”.PRH declined to comment on the issue, but a spokesperson for Waterstones told me: “Waterstones are currently operating with reduced credit terms from PRH, the only publisher in the UK to place any limitations on our ability to trade. We are not boycotting PRH titles but we are doing our utmost to ensure that availability for customers remains good despite the lower overall levels of stock. We are hopeful with our shops now open again that normality will return and that we will be allowed to buy appropriately. Certainly, our shops are exceptionally busy and book sales are very strong. The sales for our May Books of the Month surpassed any month since 2018.”In the meantime, PRH authors have been the losers. Big-name PRH authors may suffer a bit, but it’s those mid-list authors, who normally rely on Waterstones staff’s passion for promoting books by lesser-known writers, who will be praying for an end to the dispute. It comes at a time when authors are already worried about the consequences of the proposed merger between PRH and another big publisher, Simon & Schuster - the reduction in the number of unaligned UK publishers is likely to lead to fewer bidding wars, lower advances, and more conformity in terms of what is published.“This is all part of a wider change towards concentration of power and cartels. Literary agencies are getting bigger to have the clout to negotiate better terms with publishers, publishers consolidating to deal wi th Amazon,” says Lownie. “The publishing industry talks about diversity in terms of authors and staff but it also needs a plurality of ways of delivering intellectual contact, choice and different voices. After all, many of the most interesting books in re cent years have come from small publishers.”We shall see whether that plurality is a casualty of the current need among publishers to be big enough to take on all-comers.31. The author mentions two books in Paragraph 1 to present ______.[A] an ongoing conflict[B] an intellectual concept[C] a prevailing sentiment[D] a literary phenomenon32. Why did Waterstones shops retire PRH books to their relevant section?[A] to make them easily noticeable[B] to comply with PRH’s requirement[C] t o respond to PRH’s business move[D] to arrange them in a systematic way33. What message does the spokesperson for Waterstones seem to convey?[A] Their customer remain loyal.[B] The credit limit will be removed.[C] Their stock is underestimated.[D] The book market is rather slack.34. What can be one consequence of the current dispute?[A] Sales of books by mid-list PRH writers fall off considerably.[B] Lesser-known PRH writers become the target of criticism.[C] Waterstones staff hesitate to promote big-name author’s book.[D] Waterstones branches suffer a severe reduction in revenue.35. Which of the following statements best represents Lownie’s view?[A] Small publishers ought to stick together.[B] Big publishers will lose their dominance.[C] The publishing industry is having a hard time.[D] The merger of publishers is a worrying trend.答案解析:31.【答案】[A] an ongoing conflict【解析】本题为例证题。

of the Spring Park School bullies pushing the deaf kid around.I did not know the boy at all but I knew that we were about the same age, because of his size.He lived in the old white house across the street from the orphanage where I lived.I had seen him on his front porch several times doing absolutely nothing, eXcept just sitting there making funny like hand movements. In the summer time we didnt get much to eat for Sunday supper,eXcept watermelon and then we had to eat it outside behind the dining room so we would not make a mess on the tables inside.About the only time that I would see him was through the high chain-link fence that surrounded the orphanage when we ate our watermelon outside. The deaf kid started making all kind of hand signals, real fast like._You are a stupid idiot_ said the bigger of the two bullies as he pushed the boy down on the ground. The other bully ran around behind the boy and kicked him as hard as he could in the back. The deaf boys body started shaking all over and he curled up in a ball trying to shield and hide his face.He lookedlike he was trying to cry, or something but he just couldnt make any sounds, I dont think.I ran as fast as I could back through the orphanage gate and into the thick azalea bushes.I uncovered my home-made bow which I had constructed out of bamboo and string.I grabbed four arrows that were also made of bamboo and they had coca cola tops bent around the ends to make real sharp tips. Then I ran back out the gate with an arrow cocked in the bow and I just stood there quiet like, breathing real hard just daring either one of them to kick or touch the boy again._Youre a dumb freak just like him you big eared creep_ said one of the boys as he grabbed his friend and backed off far enough so that the arrow would not hit them._If youre so brave kick him again now_ I said, shaking like a leaf. The bigger of the two bullies ran up and kicked the deaf boy in the middle of his back as hard as he could and then he ran out of arrow range again. The boy jerked about and then made a sound that I will never forget for as long as I live.It was the sound like a whale makes when it has been harpooned and knows that it is about to die.I fired all four of my arrows at the two bullies as they ran away laughing about what they had done.I pulled the boy up off the ground and helped him back to his house which was about two blocks down the street from the school building. When we reached his home his sister told me that her brother was deaf but that he was not dumb like the two bullies said. That he was very smart but could not say or hear anything.I told her that he did make a sound when the bully kicked him in the back. She told me that I must be mistaken because all her brothers vocal cords had been removed during an eXperimental surgery, which had failed. The boy made one of those hand signs at me as I was about to leave.I asked his sister _if your brother is so smart then why is he doing things like that with his hands?_ She told me that he was saying that he loved me with his hands.I didnt say anything back to her at all because I didnt believe her.People cant talk with their hands and everybody knows that.People can only talk with their mouth.Almost every Sunday for the neXt year or two I could see the boy through the chain-link fence as we ate watermelon outside behind the dining room, during the summer time.He always made that same funny hand sign at me and I would just wave back at him, not knowing what else to do.On my very last day in the orphanage I was being chased bythe police. They told me that I was being sent off to the Florida School for Boys Reform School, at Marianna so I ran to get away from them. They chased me around the dining room building several times and finally I made a dash for the chain-link fence and tried to climb over in order to escape.I saw the deaf boy sitting there on his porch just looking at me as they pulled me down from the fence and handcuffed me.The boy, now about twelve jumped up and ran across San Diego Road, placed his fingers through the chain-link fence and just stood there looking at us.They dragged me by my legs, screaming and yelling for more than several hundred yards through the dirt and pine-straw to the waiting police car.All I could hear the entire time was the high pitched sound of that whale being harpooned again. As we pulled away in the police car I saw the deaf boy loosen his grip on the fence and slide very slowly to the ground and lower his head into the leaves and pine straw. That is when I realized that he probably really did love me and he wanted to save me because he thought that I too was making the whale sound.英语文章阅读理解范文第二篇Most people usually traveled by ship and train which are 英语三级试题:阅读理解篇三I heard many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling. I wish it were so. At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are clutching (紧握)at one anothers hands for reassurance. They claim they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up huddled (聚在一起)round listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon (蚕茧)into a larger_cocoon.It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up againstthe popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of todays parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you dont care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come—with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really counts.1.In this passage, the author wants to tell ________.A.teenagers to try to pursue their real selvesB.readers to try to be popular with people aroundC.parents to try to control and guide their childrenD.people to try to understand and respect each other2.The author disapproves of rebelling teenagers ________.A.growing away from their parentsB.following the popularity trendC.walking a new way on their ownD.turning to their friends for help3.The phrase “larger cocoon” at the end of the second paragraph refers to ________.A.the distractive and variable societyB.the dazzling music worldC.the parental care and loveD.the popularity wave in the society4.What does the author think of advertisements? chayiA.Convincing.B.Instructive.C.Influential.D.Authoritative.5.According to the author, what might happen when a teenager stands up against the popularity wave and follows his/her own path?A.He/She falls behind the time.B.He/She loses good friends.C.He/She faces all kinds of criticism.D.He/She gains valuable popularity.以上内容就是小编为您提供的3篇《三级英语阅读习题》,希望对您的写作有所帮助。

英语阅读理解第三篇
第三篇:
For years we have been told that encouraging a child’s self-respect is important to his or her success in life. But child experts are now learning that too much praise can lead to the opposite effect. Praise-aholic kids who expect it at every turn may become teens who seek to same kind of approval from friends when asked if they want to go in the backseat of the car.
The implication(含义) of saying “You are the prettiest g irl in class,” or talking about the goals she scored but not her overall effort, is that you love her only when she looks the best, scores the highest, achieves the most. And this carries over to the classroom.
Social psychologist Carrol Dweck, PhD, tested the effects of overpraise on 400 fifth graders while she w as at Columbia University. She found that kids praised for “trying hard” did better on testes and were more likely to take on difficult assignments than those praised for being “smart”.
“Praising attributes(品质) or abilities makes a false promise that success will come to you because you have that quality, and it devalues effort, so children are afraid to take on challenges, ” says Dweck, now at Stanford University, “They figure they’d better quit w hile they’re ahead.”
1. The underlined words “Praise-aholic kids” refers to kids who are ______.
A. tired of being praised
