增加语言多样性之同义词替换

托福写作对语言提出了明确要求，一方面要求作文中出现尽量少的错误，另一方面要求

语言要有多样性。但是，大部分中国考生都面临这样一个问题，一个词从头用到尾，一点变

化都没有，经常“I think ”到底，或是“more and more important”，这样怎么能达到

托福写作所要求的“语言多样性”呢？其实这个问题并不难解决，我们可以通过记忆常用词

的同义词，在写作中进行同义词替换，以此来增加文章语言的多样性。

细心的同学们可能会发现，英语中其实存在着大量的同义词，这是由英语独特的发展历

程造成的。英语在过去几个世纪不断从别的语言中吸收字词，使英语词汇量大大增加。 11

世纪诺曼底人征服英国之后，大量法语词汇涌入英语,使英语的词汇量增加了一倍。文艺复

兴时期，由于对古典文学研究风气很盛，因此源于拉丁语和希腊语的字和词又不断引入英语。在近代又因为海外战争，贸易和殖民的活动，英语中又不断引入世界各地，包括非洲、亚洲

等地的语言的词汇。举例来说，英语中表示“马”的词汇除了常见的horse，还有charger, steed, hag, plug等等。由此可见，英语中的同义词资源是很丰富的。下面是几组托福写

作中常用的同义词。

表达某种观点：think, believe, insist, maintain, assert, conclude, deem, hold, argue, contend, allege, assert, declare, claim, show, reveal, illustrate, demonstrate, depict, present, represent, describe, illustrate

解决: solve, deal with, cope with, handle, resolve, address, tackle, grapple with

损害： damage, hurt, injure, harm, impair, undermine, jeopardize

优势：advantage, merit, virtue, benefit, upside, strength

缺陷：disadvantage, demerit, drawback, downside, weakness
