I made a few sandcastles and collected some pretty shells. My dad and I even went out and jumped over the waves for a little while. The water was freezing at first but I eventually got used to it. We had so much fun that we didn't want to leave when it started getting dark out.The next day was probably my favorite day of our trip. In the morning, we went to Nanputuo Temple, which is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Xiamen. It's located on top of a hill and you can see the entire city from up there. The views were incredible! We walked around the different buildings in the temple complex and I listened to our tour guide explain whateverything was. I thought the shrines with the big Buddha statues were really beautiful and decorated so ornately.After the temple, we had lunch and then went to Zhongshan Road Walking Street in downtown Xiamen. It's this long pedestrian shopping area with all kinds of stores and food stalls lining both sides. My parents let me pick out a few small souvenirs like fridge magnets, keychains, and postcards. We also stopped for snacks a few times to sample awesome street foods like barbecue squid, fried dough sticks, and fresh fruit smoothies. Everything was so yummy! My favorite part though was watching the talented artists and artisans that were set up along the walking street. There were people doing incredible calligraphy, making miniature clay sculptures, and even an expert doing facial threadwork designs. How cool is that?But Hong Kong isn't just about the city. There are also tons of fun outdoor activities we can do. Dad really wants to go hiking up Victoria Peak to get a panoramic view of the skyline. He's kind of an amateur photographer, so I'm sure he'll take about a million pictures up there. Mom wants to spend a day at RepulseBay, which is this gorgeous beach with soft sand and clear blue water. And I really hope we get to go to Ocean Park, which is supposed to be an amazing aquarium and theme park all rolled into one!Then there's the food - oh man, the food! It must have taken an unbelievable amount of labor to construct something so gigantic and sturdy all along those harsh mountain ridges. Under the sea was like a whole other vibrant world!Another fun day, we went on a boat tour around the island. The boat took us to this secluded little beach where we had apicnic lunch. No one else was around except for our group. I looked for seashells along the shore and found so many beautiful ones in all different shapes, sizes and colors. We also got to see some really cute little monkeys playing in the trees!Whenever we needed a break from the beach, there were lots of other cool things to do. We visited Haikou, which is the capital city, and went to museums, parks, and shopping streets. I bought some little souvenirs like seashell jewelry and tropical print clothes. We also spent a day at a theme park that had lots of big roller coasters and rides. My favorites were the water rides where you get absolutely drenched!After a week of fun in the sun, it was sadly time to leave paradise and head back home. I had such an unforgettable time in Hainan. We took so many beautiful photos and made incredible memories as a family. I kept a journal during the trip and bought a little ornament of a beach scene to always remember it. I'm already dreaming about where we'll go next year for 51 holiday!篇6My Amazing 51 Holiday AdventureYay, the 51 holiday was finally here! This is one of my favorite times of the year because it means a whole week off from school and getting to go on a fun trip with my family. My parents had been planning this vacation for months and I was so excited when they told me we were going to Hainan Island. I had never been there before but I heard it was a tropical paradise with beautiful beaches, lush forests, and lots of cool things to see and do.We left on the first day of the holiday bright and early. Even though I'm not a morning person, I woke up before my alarm buzzing because I was just too amped up for our adventure. The flight from Beijing took almost four hours but it went by pretty quickly since I had my tablet loaded up with movies, games and apps to keep me busy. I also read a cool book about the island that my teacher had given me so I would be prepared.When we finally landed in Haikou and stepped outside the airport, the warm, humid air hit me like a sauna. It was soooooo different from the chilly spring weather we had left behind in Beijing. I could tell right away this was going to be an awesome trip! The very first thing we did was check into our fancy resort right on the beach. Our room had a big balcony with an amazing view of the turquoise water and white sand. I could have justspent the whole vacation hanging out on that balcony it was so nice.But of course, there was way too much to do and see to just lazily lay around all week. The next day, we went on a jungle river cruise up the Wanquan River. Our guide pointed out tons of exotic plants and animals along the way like the Pangolin, those scaly anteater creatures that are unique to this area. We even spotted a troop of mischievous monkeys swinging from the trees above us! That night, we had a delicious seafood dinner at a restaurant on the beach and I tried conch for the first time. It kind of tasted like chewy mushrooms.The next few days were a blur of fun activities. We went snorkeling and I saw so many cool fish and coral. We also visited a few cultural sites like the Ganza Ridge Buddhist scenic area with its ancient temples and giant statues carved into the rocky cliffs. So much history! My favorite was probably the Nanwan Monkey Island though. We took a boat out to this little island that is overrun by families of monkeys. At first they seemed cute and harmless, until one stole my mom's hat right off her head! We all cracked up laughing so hard. She had to bargain with a banana to get it back from the little thief.On our last day, we spent the whole morning just relaxing on the beach. I perfected my sand sculpting skills, went for a swim, and had a huge ice cream cone piled high with sprinkles. Laying on that warm sand, looking up at the bright blue sky and listening to the waves gently lapping the shore, I felt total bliss. I never wanted this vacation to end!All too soon, it was time to pack up and head back home. Even though I was sad to leave the island behind, I felt so grateful to my parents for this incredible experience. We made so many wonderful memories as a family that I'll cherish forever.I already can't wait for next year's 51 holiday adventure!
