Life has been a whirlwind since starting this new school year, and I can't wait to share all my experiences with you!Unit 1: My Summer VacationThe best part of my summer was definitely the camping trip my family took to Yellowstone National Park. We went hikingevery day, saw amazing wildlife like bison and bears (from a safe distance, of course!), and even got to witness the incredible Old Faithful geyser erupting. One night, we sat around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing scary stories. Despite his practical joke, it was an unforgettable adventure.Unit 2: My NeighborhoodI live in a pretty cool neighborhood. There's a huge park justa few blocks away where my friends and I love to play pickup games of soccer or basketball. The ice cream truck also comes around almost every evening, and we always beg our parents for a couple of dollars to get a treat. I wake up around 7am, get dressed, eat a quick breakfast, and head to school. My classes last from 8:30am until 3pm, with just a short break for lunch. After school, I have soccer practice on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays are for guitar lessons. Thursday afternoons I spend doing my homework and studying. Friday evenings I get to relax a little by watching movies or hanging outwith friends. On Saturdays I help out by doing chores like washing dishes, vacuuming and taking out the trash. Sundays are my favorite day of the week because I can spend the whole day just having fun without any responsibilities. Phew, typing all that made me tired just thinking about it!Unit 5: My School LifeI really enjoy going to school and learning new things every day. My favorite subjects are English, art and PE. One of my favorite places is the community pool where I hang out with friends during the hot summer months. We have an awesome library too with a huge selection of books, movies and video games you can borrow. The rec center offers tons of classes and activities for kids and adults like art, cooking, dance and martial arts. And we just got a brand new state-of-the-art movie theater that shows all the latest releases. There's always something fun to do in my town!Unit 7: Holidays and CelebrationsI love holidays because it means spending extra quality time with my family, eating delicious food, and getting some time off from school. For Thanksgiving, my aunt and uncle come over for a huge turkey dinner with all the trimmings like stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. We go around the table saying what we're thankful for that year and I feel so grateful for my wonderful family. Christmas is also a really big deal in our home. We decorate the whole house with twinkling lights, put up a beautiful tree, and bake tons of cookies and candy. I get so excited waiting to open my presents on Christmas morning! My birthday is in the spring, so we usually have a funparty in the backyard with a bouncy castle, piñata, c ake and ice cream. It's the best day ever being showered with love and attention from my family and friends.Unit 8: Helping Others and the EnvironmentI try my best to be a good person who helps others and protects the environment as much as I can. At school, I volunteer with a group that collects cans, bottles and boxes to be recycled each week. All that plastic and aluminum really adds up and makes a difference in reducing waste. For English class, we also did a cool project writing letters to kids at a hospital to cheer them up while they're feeling sick. My family likes to donate clothes, toys and canned goods to homeless shelters and food banks a few times per year too. Simple acts of kindness and giving back to the community make me feel good inside. Treating others how I would want to be treated is really important.Unit 9: My Future Goals and DreamsSometimes I daydream about what I want to be when I grow up. There are so many interesting career options to consider! Maybe I'll be a marine biologist swimming with dolphins and whales.
