When I was a kid, I was close to my dad, but as I grew older, my dad and I grew further apart(分开). We always had totally different opinions. He thought that college was a waste of time, but for me it was important to finish college. He wanted me to work my way to the top as he had done in his field, but I wanted a different life. There was a time when we did not talk with each other.A few months ago, I heard that my 84-year-old dad was in poor health. When he called and asked whether I could move from Colorado back to Tennessee to help him, I knew he was seriously ill. I am his only child and so it was time to meet my father’s requirement. Two weeks after moving back, we bought a boat and started fishing again. Fishing was one of the few things that we did while I was young and that we both enjoyed. It is strange but true that as we are fishing we are able to put things that have kept us apart for so many years behind us. We are able to talk about things that we have never talked about before. Fishing has been healing(治愈) the old wounds that have kept us apart. It is not important how many fish we catch. It is about enjoying the relationship that we have not had for yea rs. I’m 62 and he is 84. When we areon the lake fishing, it is like two kids enjoying life. It is far better to find a way to put the unhappy past behind. I am so lucky to spend the happy time with my father in his last years. Now my heart is filled with love. A smile always graces(使..增辉) my lips.21. For the author, fishing with his old father ___________ .A. helps cure his father’s diseaseB. is a good way to get close to natureC. makes him realize the importance of exerciseD. offers a chance for them to municate24. What can be the best title for the text?A. Forgiving Is DifficultB. Fishing Brings Us TogetherC. Memories of Old DaysD. My Beloved FatherBGo to church, then have a big lunch, then go out to play while mum does thehousework. That was a typical (典型的) British Sunday in the 1960s. But things now could not be more different. Some British sociologists recently studied the typical British Sunday. They found that people get up later and do less housework than they did 40 years ago. They are far more likely to be out shopping or enjoying themselves than cooking Sunday lunch.Sunday mornings were busy 40 years ago. Most women caught up on their weekly housework and cooked a nice lunch. They seldom allowed them selves any “leisure” until afternoon, after the dishes were cleaned. Then there would be another rush to the table between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm for tea.But now, Britons can have brunch (早午餐) at the restaurant. Fewer people bother (添麻烦)to cook themselves.“You only have two free days a week. You don’t want to have to waste one because there is nothing to do but watch boring TV,” said Elizabeth Biggs, 25, a producer in London.“On Saturday you are recovering from the week,” Biggs added. “Sundays are the last chance for the weekend — you want to get as much as you can out of the day before you have to go back to work.”In the past, British women usually did their shopping during the week, while the husband was at work. “Now men seem to do that as much as women,” said Jonathan Gershuny, a professor who took part in the study.Men also do more housework now on Sundays. Back in the 1960s, men were far more likely to spend Sundays out of the house — at the pub or playing football — before lunch.25. Many Britons have brunch at the restaurant because _______.A. They won’t bother to cook themselves.B. They get up too late.C. They have no time to cook at home.D. They will go to church.26. Which of the following is NOT true?A. British men did little housework at home in the past.27. The underlined word “ leisure” in Para 3 means ___________.A. houseworkB. shoppingC. free timeD. lunchCArguing with your parents is totally natural for teens. From your hairstyle to your friends, to your marks at school, to your television habits, to your future plans, it might just seem like you argue with your parents about everything. While this is not generally a pleasant state of affairs, it is normal and it will most likely pass.Argue fairlyArguments between teens and parents generally e about when both parties believe that they know what is best for the teen. Parents have been caring for their teens for over a decade, but teens are quickly being adults and believe that they are able to take care of themselves. If you must agree with them, argue fairly by:∆ Allowing each person to speak their mind.∆ Refusing to interrupt others when they are speaking.∆ Sticking only to the topic at hand.Argue respectfullyNo matter how heated things may get during an argument, try to remember that your parents still are worthy of your attention, respect and love. During arguments, be respectful by:∆Keeping your voice lowered at all times and refusing to shout.∆Sitting still and staying calm. Refusing to engage in angry actions such as kicking, throwing or hitting anything.∆Reasonably explaining the reasons for your opinions. There is a thin line between having a discussion and engaging in an argument, but smart teens know that keeping their interactions with their parents at the discussion level practically guarantees that they will be taken more seriously. No one likes to argue, and the parents of teens can be especially weary of it, so keeping things at the discussion level will work to everyone's advantage.Arguing with parents is practically a sign of the teenaged years, but out-of-control arguments don't serve anyone well. Before arguing with your parents, decide what type of teen you want to be and what promises (妥协)you are willing to make in order to achieve your goals. You never know, you might just avoid an argument all together.28. This passage mainly tells teens______.A. arguments don't solve any problemB. arguing with parents may hurt themC. some tips on arguing with parentsD. how to avoid arguing with parents29. When arguing with your parents, you should______.A. make up your mind not to give inB. show your respect for themC. express your opinions through actionsD. make full preparations for it30. It seems that the author thinks teens' arguing with parents is_______A. normalB. practicalC. shamefulD. impoliteDA woman from Japan was telling a friend about her trip to the United States. The woman had visited major businesses and investment panies in New York City and Chicago.“I studied English before I left home,” she said.“But I still was not sure that people were speaking English.”Her problem is easy to understand.Americans in business are like people who are in business anywhere. They have a language of their own. Some of the words and expressions deal with the special areas of their work.Other expressions are borrowed from different kinds of work such as the theater and movie industry. One such saying is “get your act together”.When things go wrong in a business, an employer may get angry. He may shout, “Stop making mistakes.Get your act together.”Or, if the employer is calmer, he may say, “Let us get our act together.”Either way, the meaning is the same.Getting your act together is getting organized. In business, it usually means to develop a calm and orderly plan of action. It is difficult to tell exactly where the saying began. But, it is probable that it was in the theater or movie industry.Perhaps one of the actors was nervous and made a lot of mistakes. The director may have said, “Calm down, now.Get your act together.”Word expert James Rogers says the expression was mon by the late 1970s.Mister Rogers says the Manchester Guardian newspaper used it in 1978.The newspaper said a reform policy required that the British government get its act together. Now, this expression is heard often when officials of a pany meet. One pany even called its yearly report, “Getting Our Act Together.”The Japanese visitor was confused by another expression used by American business people. It is cut to the chase. She heard that expression when she attended an important meeting of one pany. One official was giving a very long report. It was not very interesting. In fact, some people at the meeting were falling asleep. Finally, the president of the pany said, “Cut to the chase.”“Cut to the chase” means to stop spending so much time on details or unimportant material.Hurry and get to the good part.Naturally, this saying was started by people who make movies.Hollywood movie producers believe that most Americans want to see action movies. Many of their movies show scenes in which the actors chase each other in cars, or in airplanes or on foot.Cut is the director’s word for stop. The director means to stop filming, leave out some material, and get to the chase scene now.So, if your employer tells you to cut to the chase, be sure to get to themain point of your story quickly.31.After the woman visited the Untied States she might feel that ________.A. her English was poorB. It’s easy to master EnglishC. it’s difficult to make moneyD. people there weren’t very friendly32. In whic h situation could the words “get your act together” be used?A. A task is pleted successfullyB. Players perform badly in a match.C. Audience is satisfied with the actor’s performance in a movie.D. Visitors make a tiresome and unpleasant trip to someplace.33.According the text, the expression “get one’s act together” ________.A. was first used by a Japanese business womanB. was forbidden to be used in the government policyC. originally came from a yearly report of a panyD. was monly read by readers in a newspaper in 1978.34. What do the sayings “get your act together” and “cut to the chase” have in mon?A. Their usesB. Their meaningsC. their originsD. their popularities35.The text is most likely to be found in a book about ________.A. life attitudeB. travel journalsC. language cultureD. successful business第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)根据短文内容, 从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AAlan Turing is known as the father of modern puter science, but he was also a great mathematician, code-breaker(密码破译者), philosopher (哲学家)and war-hero.Turing was born in London on June 23, 1912. He studied mathematics at Cambridge University in the 1930s and after graduating he became a researcher at the university, where he began developing his ideas for whatwas later called the “Turing Machine”.During World War II Turing joined the army as part of a team responsible for breaking the codes used by the German armies for their munications. Using his knowledge of mathematics and puting principles, Turing constructed a machine which could interpret these mysterious messages, giving the British access to thousands of the German war plans and secrets. Many think it helped shorten the war by several years, saving millions of lives. After the war, Turing returned to developing the design of the “Turing Machine”, the first modern puter. During the 1940s and 1950s most puters were designed for a single purpose.Turing’s revolutionary idea was to build a machine that could do anything, a multi-purpose puter, something that we consider mon today. Turing pleted his design but his colleagues thought it was too difficult to construct, so the Turing Machine was never built in his lifetime. The method of instructing the puter was the key to Turing’s idea. He described a machine which knew three simple instructions: sequence (序列顺序), selection and repetition. Making the puter perform any task was simply a matter of breaking the task down into steps using a bination of these instructions. This principle remains the basis of almost all puter programming up to this day.Turing als o developed what is now known as the “Turing Test” of puter intelligence. The test consisted of a person asking questions via keyboard to both a person and an intelligent machine. Turing believed that if theperson asking the questions could not tell the difference between the machine’s answers and the person after a reasonable amount of time, the machine was somewhat intelligent.Tragically, Turing took his own life in 1954, aged just 41. Many books have been written and several movies made about his life and the annual “Turing Award”, established in 1966 and named in his honour, is considered the Noble Prize of puting.1. Which of the following statements about Turing is true?A. He is actually unknown outside of the puter munity.B. He designed and built the first multi-purpose puter.C. His ideas are still considered important in modern puter design.D. He developed the “Turing Test”while still a student at Cambridge.2. What was the purpose of the Turing Test?A. To determine if puters were intelligent.B. To pare the abilities of men and machines.C. To judge the performance of multi-purpose puters.D. To measure the IQ of machines.3. Where can Turing’s influence on puting be most clearly seen today?A. In the evaluation of puter performance.B. In the method of puter programming.C. In the functionality of puter systems.D. In the process of system design.BA recent international survey found that around 75% of the world’s best universities, such as MIT, Harvard and Princeton are in the US.But while US universities are very good at producing research and raising money, they aren’t so good at supplying the needs of the US high-skill labour market so America relies on educated talent from elsewhere. Take the example of medical education. The US simply does not train enough doctors to meet its needs. Each year many more doctors retire than graduate from its medical schools and the US robs the world to make up the difference.25% of doctors working in the US received their training elsewhere. That is close to 200,000 doctors educated abroad. Around 5,000 were trained in Africa, mainly Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, but also elsewhere. In 2002, there were 47 Liberian-trained doctors working in the US, and just 72 working in Liberia. The poorest always lose out.In most countries, especially in the developing world, doctors are trained at public expense. If a doctor from Ghana is taken to the US, not only does that country lose its doctor, it loses the money paid for the t raining. That means the world’s poorest people are paying for the health care of the world’s richest people. Why can’t the US supply its own needs? After all, doctors in the US are not exactly badly paid. But training is long, difficult, and, of course, expensive. A newly trained doctor graduates with about $200,000 of debt. Unlike lawyers and bankers, of which there are no American shortages, doctors lack the opportunities to earn huge salaries immediately and payit all back. Also, there is no central government planning for university education in America, making it more difficult to create new medical colleges. So while we look with envy at the wealth and achievements of the top American universities, we should bear in mind that not all is as good as it seems. In fact, it may be that the weakness of the US higher education system is contributing to the health and development crisis in some of the world’s poorest regions.4. What is the passage mainly about?A. The high standards of universities in the United States.B. The quality of doctors produced by American universities.C. Medical training provided only at American Universities.D. The quantity of doctors produced by American universities.5. Why does the author think getting doctors from Africa is not good?A. Their education level is not as good as American trained doctors.B. The cost of bringing them to America is more than training local doctors.C. It takes valuable skills away from some of the world’s poorest countries.D. The African doctors are poorly paid pared to the American doctors.6. Which is NOT a reason given for the lack of locally trained doctors in America?A. Doctors salaries are not very high in America.B. People can earn big money more quickly in other professions.C. It is difficult to create new medical schools in America.D. Training is long and very expensive.7. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refers to ________.A. the developing worldB. the US university systemC. the country of GhanaD. the countrysideCBritain’s most popular lie has been discovered, with one in four people admitting using “Sorry I had no signal” when returning a missed mobile phone call, a survey found.According to a recent survey people usually use this little white lie after they hit the “ignore” button when their mobile rang. The second most mon fib (小谎) is “I haven’t got any cash on me” when asked for money by beggars. Modern technology is a major excuse in many of our lies wi th “I didn’t get your text” in 18th, “Our server was down” in 20th and “My battery died” in 26th place.Researchers found the average Briton tells on average four lies every day or almost 1500 every year. One in three Britons have lied about their weight, a quarter have fibbed about the amount of debt they are in and 30 percent have bent the truth about the amount of exercise they do.Almost a quarter of men have told their wife or girlfriend they look good in an outfit (一套服装), despite thinking the opposite. More than 40 percent of women have admitted lying about how much new clothes actuallycost while 30 percent have fibbed about how much they’ve had to drink.Three quarters of people think women are better liars. The research found 46 per cent of girls have been caught lying, pared to 58 of men. Men tell the most fibs, ing out with five every day pared to women who lie just three times.A spokesman for one poll, which carried out the research of 4,300 adults, said, “As a nation we are obsessed with trying to be nice and not upsetting people. Often little white lies are used to cover what we actually want to say.”“Most of these were considered either pletely harmless or necessary depending on the situation in which they are delivered.” He added, “It was sad to see a string of pliments(赞美) in the top 50, but once again in many cases perhaps it is better to pliment with a lie than destroy someone with the truth.”8. What is the best title for the passage?A. British people like to lieB. The most popular British liesC. The reasons British people lieD. Technology makes us lie9. According to the research, what do women most frequently lie about?A. Their weight.B. The amount of their debt.C. Their drinking habits.D. The cost of their clothing.10. The underlined phrase “obsessed with” is closest in meaning to ________.A. very concerned withB. surprised aboutC. not interested inD. opposed to11. Why do people usually lie according to the one poll?A. To prevent argument with their partners.B. To avoid hurting others.C. To avoid speaking with others on the phone.D. To destroy others.DProfessional footballers in the USA can make millions of dollars throughout their careers. Yet statistics show that many eventually run out of money once their playing days are over. The University of Pennsylvania wants to change that and help teach American footballers how to rebuild their lives when their sports careers e to an end.“All their life they h ave focused on football. Deciding what es next can be difficult,” says Professor Morvarid Taheripour, the head of the athletes’project. “Some people say athletes die two deaths. You kind of die when you stop playing and you die in real life. So they’ve go t to e back to life and figure out ‘How am I going to make a living at 25 for maybe another 40 years?”For Taheripour, the partnership with professional athletes is a dream to e true. “It was taking everything I love about teaching and yet being able to influence people who are talented and hard-working, yet very modest.”But even with help, figuring out the next chapter isn’t easy. People watched him, and they began to buy and eat a lot more spinach. Popeye helped sell 33 percent more spinach than before! Spinach became a necessary part of many people’s diets. Even some children who hated the taste began to eat the vegetable. Many people thought that the iron in spinach made Popeye strong, but this is not true. Spinach does not have any more iron than any other green vegetable.People only thought spinach had a lot of iron because the people whostudied the food made a mistake. In the 1890s, a group of people studied what was inside vegetables. This group said that spinach had ten times more iron than it did. The group wrote the number wrong, and everyone accepted it.Today, we know that the little iron in spinach cannot make a difference in how strong a person is. However, spinach does have something else which the body needs—folic acid.It is interesting to point out that folic acid can help make a person strong. Maybe it was really the folic acid that made Popeye strong all along.36. A good title for this reading passage is______.A. Popeye the SailorB. The Truth About SpinachC.A Mistake with NumbersD. But they don’t e out because of what yourfriends say or because you think that only a few people can be creative geniuses (天才). And, you, of course, think that you couldn’t be one of them. But actually, this is not true at all.Anyone who is a creative genius will tell you that creativity is very much like a muscle that needs to be developed. If you don’t learn how to develop creative thinking, this skill, just like a muscle, will bee poor and useless. On the other hand, keep working at it, and this skill will soon be ready for action whenever you need it. So how do you develop your own personal style of creative thinking? You should realize that your brain has a greater capacity (容量) and a higher speed than the world’s biggest and fastest puter. So it’s important to get as much information as you can every day. Read, watch and listen to everything around you —good and bad. The more you know, the more you’ll want to know, and the more your brain will be exercised.Try something new every day and let your experiences show you more about the world and people around you. You need to step out of your fort zone (舒适地带) more and more each day.Follow these suggestions, and begin thinking beyond your "limits" from today. You’ll soon have a life full of interesting and exciting adventures. Who knows, your idea might be the next great idea to change the world.43. No puter can store as much information as human’s brain.B. It is not necessary to remember everything around you.C. Try something new, as long as you are fortable with it.D. It is harder to exercise the brain than the muscles46. The passage is intended to tell readers _________.A. how they can learn from creative geniusesB. about ways to develop their creative thinkingC. about the importance of exercising the musclesD. the reasons why they can’t be creative geniusesDA few months ago as I wandered through my parents’ house, the same house I grew up in,I had a sudden, scary realization. When my parents bought the house,in 1982,they were only two years older than I am now.I tried to imagine myself in two years, ready to settle down and buy the house I’d still be living in almost 30 years later. It seemed ridiculous. On a practical level, there’s no way I could afford to buy a house anytime soon.More importantly,I wouldn’t want to.I’m not sure where I’ll be living in two years,or what kind of job I’ll have. And I don’t think I’ll be ready to settle down and stay in one place. So this is probably the generation gap that divides my friends and me from our parents. When our parents were our age, they’d got their education, chosen a career, and were starting to settle into responsibleadult lives. My friends and I--“Generation Y”--still aren’t sure what we want to do with our lives.Whatever we end up doing,we want to make sure we’re happy doing it.We’d rather take risks first, try out different jobs, and move from one city to another until we find our favorite place. We’d rather spend our money on travel than put it in a savings account. This casual attitude toward responsibility has caused some critics to call my generation “arrogant”(自大的), “impatient”, and “overprotected”.Some of these plaints have a point. As children, we were encouraged to succeed in school, but also to have fun.We grew up in a world full of technological innovation: cell phones, the Internet, instant messaging, and video games. Our parents looked to rise vertically(垂直的)--starting at the bottom of the ladder and slowly making their way to the top,on the same track, often for the same pany. That doesn’t apply to my generation.Because of that,it may take us longer than our parents to arrive at responsible, stable adulthood. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.Inour desire to find satisfaction,we will work harder, strive for ways to keep life interesting, and gain a broader set of experiences and knowledge than our parents’ generation did.47.When the author walked through her parents’ house, she _______. A.had no idea what she wanted from lifeB.realized I should buy a houseC.started to think about her own lifeD.wondered why her parents had settled down early48.What is the main “generation gap” between the author and her friends and their parents according to the article?A.Their attitude toward responsibility.B.Their ways of making their way to the top.C.Their ways of gaining experience.D.Their attitude towards high technology.49.Which of the following might the author agree with?A.It’s better to take adult responsibility earlier.B. It’s all right to try more bef ore settling down.C.It involves too much effort to rise vertically.D.It’s ridiculous to call her generation “arrogant”.50.What is the main theme of the article?A.The sudden realization of growing up.B.Criticisms of the young generation.C.A parison between lifestyles of generations.D.The factors that have changed the young generation.第二节根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

We chose the first. Up early; my husband and I and our three children couldn’t wait to get started. We decided to walk along a lovely path named Bright Angel Trail. As we set out, I was shocked at how narrow the path was. And I couldn’t help noticing that the other tourists weren’t like us. They had heavy backpacks, water bottles, and hats. But as usual we were dressed. As the sun rose higher, Arizona’s famous heat se emed to roast us. There was no shade and our legs were aching. But the smiles on our faces disappeared as the pilot tossed(翻转) the plane around, pretending he was going to hit the ground. I shouted, “STOP, TAKE US BACK!”When we finally arrived back on land, once again our legs were like jelly. We hardly spoke as we drove back.As I said, there are three ways to view the Grand Canyon. To many property developers and local government officials, housing price in China is still low pared with many developed countries. However, the average housing price in the United States is only 8,000 yuan per square meter, while in China, it is even higher than in the United States. This shows that there are some bubbles in Chinese real estate market, the International Finance News reported.Although the average price of residential houses in the United States, after converted to Renminbi, is about 8,000 yuan per square meter, the houses in US are not sold in terms of building area, as most Chinese property developers do when they sell their houses. If US property developers sell their houses according to the building area, then the housing price will be even lower than 8,000 yuan per square meter. In most big Chinese cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, houses are sold at a price even higher than those in the US.The high housing sales price in large cities in China proves that Chinese real estate market does have some bubbles. Moreover, Chinese houses can not be pared with houses in US in terms of building quality, environment and supporting facilities. Furthermore, it should be noted that American people’s average ine is several dozen times higher than that of Chinese people. How can the Chinese afford to buy a house which is even more expensive than that sold in US?At the beginning of xx, Chinese government issued a set of policies that aimed to benefit the public. Now in order to reduce the high housing prices, the government can regulate the real estate market by raising tax on property industry and controlling the release of loans and lands to property developers. At the same time, the government should allow people to build more houses through various fund-raising channels, such as funds collected from buyers or raised by working units. TwoCSome futurologists have assumed that the vast increase of women in the workforce may portend (预示) a rejection of marriage. Many women, according to this hypothesis, would rather work than marry. The opposite of this concern is that the prospects of being a multi-paycheck household could encourage marriage. In the past, only the earnings and financial prospects of the man counted in the marriage decision. Now, however, the earning ability of a woman can make her more attractive as a marriage partner. Data show that economic downturns tend to put off marriage because the parties cannot afford to establish a family or are concerned about rainy days ahead. As the economy es to life, the number of marriages also rises. The increase in divorce rates follows to the increase in women working outside the home. Yet, it may be wrong to jump to any simple cause-and-effect conclusions. The impact o f a wife’s work on divorce is no less cloudy than its impact on marriage decisions. The realization that she can be a good provider may increase the chances that a working wife will choose divorce over an unsatisfactory marriage. But the reverse is equally plausible(似是而非的). Tensions grounded in financial problems often play a key role i n ending a marriage. By raising a family’s standard of living, a working wife may strengthen her family’s financial and emotional stability.Psychological factors also should be considered. For example, a wife blocked from a career outside the home may feel caged in the house. She may view her only choice as seeking a divorce. On the other hand, if she can find fulfillment through work outside the home, work and marriage can go together to create a stronger and more stable union. Also, a major part of women’s inequality in marriage has been due to the fact that, in most cases, men have remained the main breadwinners. A working wife may rob a husband of being the master of the house. Depending upon how the couple reacts to these new conditions, it could create a stronger equal partnership or it could create new insecurities.74. It is said in the passage that when the economy slides_____.A. men would choose working women as their marriage partnersB. more women would get married to seek financial securityC. even working women would worry about their marriagesD. more people would prefer to remain single for the time being75. If women find fulfillment through work outside the home,_____.A. they are more likely to dominate their marriage partnersB. their husbands are expected to do more houseworkC. their marriage ties can be strengthenedD. they tend to put their career before marriage76. One reason why women with no career may seek a divorce is that_____.A. they feel that they have been robbed of their freedomB. they are afraid of being bossed around by their husbandsC. they feel that their partners fail to live up to their expectationsD. they tend to suspect their husbands’ loyalty to their marriage77. Which of the following statements can best summarize the authors’ view in the passage?A. The stability of marriage and the divorce rate may reflect the economic situation of the country.B. Even when economically independent, most women have to struggle forreal equality in marriage.C. In order to secure their marriage women should work outside the home andremain independentD. The impact of the growing female workforce on marriage varies from case to case.Section DDirections Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or plete the statements in the fewest possible words. ( no more than 10 words)When asked to point out one or two things that are most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, cloth and cars.A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines who we are and keeps us connected. It is a treasure we should protect. Unfortunately, the better friends you are, the more probably you’ll have disagreements. And the result can be what you don’t wan t —an end to the relationship. The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended. First, don’t let your pride get in your way. Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open. Second, apologize when you’re wrong –even if you’ve been wronged. Over the course of a friendship, even the best people make mistakes. Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes. When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit that he has been wrong. Third, see things from your friend’s point of view. And finally, accept that friendships change as our needs and lifestyle change. Making friends can sometimes seem easy. The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the natural ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships. My suggestion Consider friendship an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure and nurture.78. What is likely to happen if you have disagreements with your friends?79. The author wrote the article mainly to tell us .80. The underlined word nurture probably means ________________.81. What causes the change of friendships?第II卷(共47分)I. People watched him, and they began to buy and eat a lot more spinach. Popeye helped sell 33 percent more spinach than before! Spinach became a necessary part of many people’s diets. Even some children who hated the taste began to eat the vegetable. Many people thought that the iron in spinach made Popeye strong, butthis is not true. Spinach does not have any more iron than any other green vegetable.People only thought spinach had a lot of iron because the people who studied the food made a mistake. In the 1890s, a group of people studied what was inside vegetables. This group said that spinach had ten times more iron than it did. The group wrote the number wrong, and everyone accepted it.Today, we know that the little iron there is in spinach cannot makea difference in how strong a person is. However, spinach does have something else which the body needs—folic acid.It is interesting to point out that folic acid can help make a person strong. A.earn more money B.get help from others C.live a healthy life D.work and study all dayCLosing a baby tooth can be fun for a kid. You can put it under your pillow and look forward to finding some money there in the morning. And then you can watch your new permanent tooth grow in its place. But if a permanent tooth falls o ut, that’s a problem. There isn’t another one under the gum(齿龈)that can replace it. Unfortunately, this happens to some older people. And if permanent teeth fall out or need to be pulled, an older person might need dentures.Dentures, known as false teeth, are a set of replacement teeth for any teeth that are missing. There are partial dentures, which take the place of only a few teeth and prevent the others from changing position. If all the teeth are gone, the person would need plete dentures, which replace every tooth in the mouth.Dentures can cause pains at first and take little time to get adjusted to. They also need special care. They should be brushed daily with a specialdenture brush and cleanser and soaked(浸泡) in denture solution when not in the mouth.Dentures are important for the old because, without teeth, it’s hard to smile, talk, and eat properly. But it can be a little weird if you see someone take out his or her dentures. It can also be strange to see someone, like a grandparent, without de ntures in because he or she won’t have any teeth. Try not to make fun of the person because this could cause hurt feelings.People usually lose their permanent teeth due to periodontal disease (牙周炎), or gum disease, which is caused by bacteria that attacks the gums. Diseased gums aren’t strong and healthy, so teeth can get loose and fall out. Older people often have many cavities(洞)that have been filled over the years, and these fillings can weaken over time, leading to more tooth problems.29.If one of your baby teeth falls out, you .A.should have a false tooth fixed in its placeB.have to put it under your pillow at onceC.will gain a permanent tooth in futureD.can exchange it for some money30.A person wearing dentures .A.should brush them with a special denture brush every few daysB.will take a very long time to adjust himself or herself to them C.will experience unpleasant feelings at the beginning of fixing them D.should use denture solution to soak them in his or her mouth31.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A.Partial dentures can prevent the remaining teeth from changing position.B.Old people will find it hard to smile, talk, and eat properly without teeth.C.A person’s teeth will possibly get loose if di seases strike his gums.D.It is hard for a person to wear dentures if all his teeth have fallen out.32.What does the underlined word “weird” mean in the fifth paragraph?A.inconvenient B.excited C.unfortable D.ImpoliteDBERLIN (AP) ---A tiger escaped its enclosure at Cologne Zoo in western Germany on Saturday and killed a female keeper before being shot dead bythe zoo's director, police said. The tiger slipped through a passage between the enclosure and a neighboring storage building, where it fatally attacked the 43-year-old keeper, said police spokesman Stefan Kirchner."It appears the gate wasn't properly shut," Kirchner told The Associated Press. The zoo was evacuated and a SWAT (特警) team was called in, police said. But before it arrived the zoo's director managed to kill the tiger by climbing onto the storage building and shooting it through a skylight using a rifle.Kirchner said it was unlikely that members of the public had witnessed the incident, "This is the darkest day of my life," the zoo's director, Theo Pagel, was quoted as saying by Cologne newspaper Express. The paper said on its website that the Siberian tiger was a 4-year-old male called tltai that came to Cologne Zoo from an animal park in England. In November it fathered three cubs with a 7-year-old Siberian tiger called Hanya, according to the zoo's website.Police said the zoo reopened after Saturday's incident, which occurred around noon. However, a planned late-night opening of the zoo has beencanceled.Cologne Zoo is one of the oldest in Germany. It was founded in 1860 and houses some 10,000 animals prising (包括)more than 700 different species.33.According to the police, what was the direct reason for the incident?A.The zoo keeper was a new hand.
