Today, this waterway is shorter than it once was, but it is still the longest man-made river in the world. Importantly, the Grand Canal continues to provide a vital cultural and economic link for modern China. The original canal system began around the year 605. China’s Emperor Yang realized that he needed a better way to feed his army. Specifically, he needed a way to move food quickly from China’s southern rice-growing region to the country’s north. So, the emperorordered the construction of the first section of the Grand Canal, connecting existing canals, lakes, and rivers. An estimated one million people — mostly farmers — worked on the construction, which took six years. In addition to moving rice around China, the Grand Canal was an important cultural conduit. Soldiers, merchants, and artists transported ideas, regional foods, and cultural practices from one part of China to another. According to legend, this is how Beijing acquired two of its best-known trademarks. Peking duck, a dish from Shandong Province, and the Peking opera, from Anhui and Hubei regions, were both brought north via the canal. For more than a thousand years, goods have been transported along the Grand Canal. Even today, the country’s watery highway plays an important economic role in China. Boats continue to carry tons of coal, food, and other goods to points between Hangzhou and Jining — now the northernmost city the canal reaches. In addition, local governments — eager to increase tourism and real estate development — are beautifying areas along the canal. This development comes at a price, though. In Yangzhou, the city has torn down almost all of the older canal-side buildings. Farther south in the cities of Zhenjiang, Wuxi, and Hangzhou, the situation is similar. In 2014, the historic Grand Canal was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site (联合国教科文组织世界遗产地). It is hoped that the Grand Canal — one of the world’s great engineering achievements — will continue to link north and south China for centuries to come.28.Why was the Grand Canal first built?A.To enable more people to visit rice-growing parts of China.B.To let the army move quickly from the north to the south.C.To transport food from the southern part of China to the north.D.To develop the building skills of the farmers all over China.29.Which of the following is closest in meaning to “conduit” (Paragraph 3)? A.Connection.B.Conversation.C.Conclusion.D.Contribution. 30.According to the passage, why has the Grand Canal been important for China? A.Because it’s the world’s longest man-made river.B.Because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.C.Because it is a watery highway for lots of boats.D.Because it’s economically linked the north and south. In the next few days, Mary spent almost all her time in the garden. The fresh air from the moor(沼泽) made her hungry, and she was becoming stronger and healthier. One day she noticed the robin (知更鸟) again. He was on top of a wall; singing to her. “Good morning! Isn’t this fun! Come this way!”, he seemed to say, as he hopped (跳跃) along the wall. Mary began to laugh as she danced along beside him. “I know the secret garden’s on the other side of this wall!” she thought excitedly. “And the robin lives there! But where’s the door?”That evening she asked Martha to stay and talk to her beside the fire after supper. They could hear the wind blowing round the old house, but the room was warm and comfortable. Mary only had one idea in her head. “Tell me about the garden,” she said.“Well, all right then, Miss, but we aren’t supposed to talk about it, you know. It was Mrs.Craven’s favourite garden, and she and Mt. Craven used to take care of it themselves. They spent hours there, reading and talking. They were very happy: They used the branch (树枝) of an old tree as a seat. But one day when she was sitting on the branch, it broke and she fell. She was very badly hurt and the next day she died. That’s why he hates the garden so much, and won’t let anyone go in there.”“How sad!” said Mary. “Poor Mr. Craven!” It was the second time that she had ever felt sorry for anyone.Just then, as she was listening to the wind outside, she heard another noise, in the house.“Can you hear a child crying?” She asked Martha.Martha looked confused. “Er - no,” she replied. “No, I think…it must be the wind.”But at that moment, the wind blew open their door and they heard the crying very clearly.“I told you!” cried Mary.At once Martha shut the door. “It was the wind,” she repeated: But she did not speak in her usual natural way, and Mary did not believe her.(adapted from The Secret Garden)31.Why did Mary ask Martha to stay and talk to her after supper?A.Because Mary thought Martha might know the secret of the garden.B.Because Martha knew things more than Mary.C.Because Mary wanted to talk to Martha beside the fire after supper.D.Because Martha had been to the garden before.32.What can we infer from the article?A.The robin was raised by MaryB.Mr. Craven didn’t like people there.C.Martha pretended (假装) not to hear a child’s cry.D.Mary knew Martha was really the daughter of the Cravens.33.What might happen in the following paragraphs?A.The robin told Mary the truth.B.Martha told Mary the truth.C.The child told Mary the truth.D.Mary tried to find the truth. The latest sports craze is not even a sport. According to a recent article, “e-sports” are attracting a large number of audiences. In e-sports, players and teams compete in popular video computer games such as Dota 2 and Ovenvatch. Fans fill arenas (竞技场) to watch the action live on huge television screens. The games have gone way past kids playing against each other while sitting on a sofa at home. The International, a major competition for players of Dota 2, awarded $24 million in prizes, with the winner taking home almost $11 million. A recent e-sports competition attracted more than 80,000 fans to the Olympic Stadium in Beijing, China.I have to admit that I am not a big fan of computer games. I know that some games can be educational, but I think too many kids spend too much time sitting in front of a screen shooting space aliens. I think it would be better if kids spent more time reading or playing real sports such as basketball, baseball and soccer. And please don’t tell me that competitive gaming is a real sport because it requires hand-eye coordination(协调). According to my American Heritage Dictionary, a sport is “an activity involving physical effort and skill”. I don’t think anyone works up much of a sweat (汗水) playing video games.Too often, regular sports send kids a kind of message. Competition starts early, when lots of kids are not ready for the ups and downs of games. Trails and travel teams come next, giving too many kids the message they are “not good” at sports. So lots of kids give up sports and start playing more video games.Maybe everyone in youth sports, including coaches, parents and kids, should think more about the advantages of real sports.34.What are “e-sports” according to the text?A.Sports events on television screens.B.Easy sports games for kids. C.Video computer game competitions.D.The latest sports in the Olympics. 35.What might the author think of “e-sports”?A.They are not instructive.B.They need too much time and money. C.They should be banned in school.D.They have some negative influence on children.36.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To introduce a new kind of sport.B.To introduce a competition held in Beijing.C.To explain the importance of playing sports.D.To call on people to pay more attention to traditional sports.37.Where is this text most likely from?A.A guidebook.B.A magazine.C.A novel.D.An advertisement.四、根据汉语提示填空38.China’s _______ (人口) won’t grow fast and the families are getting smaller.39.If the matter is not carefully dealt with in time, the _________ (情况) will get worse. 40.Our manager is so careful that he always thinks twice before _________ (回复) to the customers.41.We all hope to live in a less _________ (污染) world, so it’s time for us to go green now.五、用所给单词的正确形式填空42.The new law is _________ (wide) believed to protect against family violence. 43.Nearly half of these car accidents come from drunk drivers and many others from_________ (careless).44.Two years ago, Tom had a great time travelling around _________ (centre) Europe. 45.It’s important for children to see other _________ (possible) and other paths they can take.46.Because of the growing number of infected people, other cities have provided Shanghai with medical materials _________ (fight) against the virus.47.Show your names to the teachers, and they _________ (lead) you to the new class. 48.You needn’t worry about your scores since you _________ (prepare) a lot for the exam. 49.—Why didn’t you answer the door?—Sorry, Mum. It’s Danish, representing a lifestyle practiced by Danish people. There is no English word for the exact meaning of “hygge”, according to Oxford Dictionaries. It might be translated to “comfort” in English, but it is more than that.Enjoying beautiful music or having a movie night is hygge. Lighting candles or making real tea in china cups—that’s hygge too. There’s nothing more hygge than sitting around a table with your family or friends, discussing the big and small things in life. Hygge pays attention to making ordinary daily activities special or meaningful, according to the BBC.For Danish people, hygge is a way of fighting the cold winter, although it doesn’t have to be a winter—only thing. In Denmark, there can be up to 17 hours of darkness per day in winter, and the average temperature is around 0℃, according to the BBC.As a result, people spend more time indoors and relax themselves. Now the idea of hygge is traveling abroad and becoming fashionable in some other countries too. In the United Kingdom and the United States, there are more and more hygge-themed cookbooks and lifestyle guides, as well as Danish restaurants, cafes and bars.“The rest of the world seems to be slowly waking up to what Danes (丹麦人) have been wise to for ages,” Helen Russell, author of The Year of Living Danishly, told the BBC.七、完成句子59.在上个月的展览会上,这幅价值连城的画作享誉全世界。

The little bird waiting inside the house would be my first test as a volunteer wildlife rescuer (救助者).A kind-looking man led me inside to see my first patient. I would have to look confident, like I’d done this kind of thing many times before. I lifted the edge of the shoe box very slightly to see a bird standing on very thin legs. The bird seemed very aghast, so I decided not to catch it by hand but just move the whole shoe box into my rescue box.I hadn’t seen this species (物种) of bird before, so I searched the Internet for its information: a rufous fantail, so called because of its red-brown tail feathers that, when fully open, spread out into a neat little “fan”. I phoned the bird specialist of the rescue group. She told me this species hunts insects on the wing and keeping it longer than overnight would only do it harm.I waited until dusk the next day, which would provide the cover of darkness, to set it free.I held the bird up as high as I could to give it a good lift off and open the flap. The little bird flew off quickly into the darkness. My first successful rescue was not just a second chance for the bird. Five months earlier, I received a cancer diagnosis (诊断) and I was now at the point where I wasn’t planning my days around hospital visits. For me, it was making room in my life for wildlife rescue. I’d been interested in animals ever since I was a young girl but had always thought that I’d missed that boat. But I heard about a local wildlife rescue group that was looking for volunteers, and was holding atwo-day intensive (强化的) course in wildlife rescue.I had a free weekend. The only thing stopping me was a lack (缺乏) of confidence. I generally didn’t put my hand up for tasks that I might fail in, especially in public. But the wildlife rescue organization was willing to take a chance on me, then I could find the courage to take on the responsibility of this role. And one day, there was a small bird picked up by an elderly man who’d looked out of his front window after hearing bird calls. It was in a box waiting just for me.31.What does the underlined word “aghast” mean in this story?A.quiet B.bored C.excited D.scared 32.What can we infer from the passage?A.The rescue was a change in direction for the writer.B.The rescue mainly helps these birds to search for food.C.The writer would like to be a rescuer when she was young.D.The writer felt hopeless after receiving the cancer diagnosis.33.Which can be the best title of the story?A.Just for Me B.A Second Chance C.A Kind Girl D.A Successful RescueThe typical image of a knitter may be a white-haired lady but in the 1940s, young male Royal Air Force pilots used needles as they waited for their next task. Wartime pilots crashed a lot and knitting helped rebuild flexibility(灵活性) in wounded arms and meanwhile calm wounded minds. They were the basis of early career therapy. There is increasing evidence that practising creative and meaningful jobs can have a positive influence on health and well-being. Career therapist Jill Riley was part of a team from Cardiff University that surveyed more than 3,500 knitters worldwide and found that the more often people knitted, the calmer and happier they felt. Knitting in a group created happiness, improved social contact and communication with others. As one person surveyed put it,“That rhythm of making stitch (针脚) after stitch is like deep breathing. It’s a flow where you don’t have to stress about it and you’ve got the rhythm happening.”“Flow”is an invention first named by the psychologist Mihaly Csikszentrnihalyi. As he wrote in his book Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, “The best moments in our lives are not the passive or relaxing times. The best moments usually happen if a person’s body or mind is in a voluntary effort to complete something difficult and worthwhile. During the flow, attention is freely paid to achieving a person’s goal because there is no disorder to strengthen out or no threat (威胁) for the self to guard against.”“When a person can organize his or her mind so as to experience flow as often as possible, the quality of life starts to improve.”An artist, Shauna Richardson, knows just how true this is. The artist spent 18 months in a state of flow when she knitted threeseven-metre-long lions for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. To complete the task, she says she had to fix all her attention and keep a state of mind driven by rhythm and process (过程). Csikszentrnihalyi also describes the opposite to flow. He points out that although people are healthier and 1ive longer, they often end up feeling anxious and bored, and they are usually cut off from satisfying work.Because knitting is so accessible(可到达的)—at its heart it’s two sticks and one stitch—it helps people build confidence in their abilities. After all, if you make a mistake, you can just pull it all out and start again.34.Why does the writer mention “a white-haired lady” in paragraph 1?A.To give an example.B.To introduce the topic.C.To compare two things.D.To prove the writer’s opinion 35.According to the passage, how does “career therapy”help people?A.Fill their free time by doing handwork.B.Reduce their stress by breathing deeply. C.Improve their mind and body by knitting.D.Perfect their skills by completing a task 36.How do people feel in a state of flow?A.Fixed.B.Bored.C.Relaxed D.Satisfied 37.What can we learn from the passage?A.It is certain that young males are interested in knitting at present.B.It is proved that knitting has a bad effect on people’s health and life.C.In the writer’s opinion knitting can bring people good points and bad points.D.In the kitting process, knitters can enjoy it without worrying about making mistakes.四、根据汉语提示填空38.We spent the whole afternoon ________ (宁静地) without noisy kids around.39.It is a ________ (常见的) sense that drinking milk can help kids grow stronger. 40.Scientists around the world are working to ________ (发现) a cure for cancers. 41.Reducing the risk of heart diseases is an important ________ ( 优势) of regular exercise.五、用所给单词的正确形式填空42.The boy ________ (simple) won’t accept his parents’ decision.43.We can clearly see the pain from her ________ (worry) eyes.44.They will never know the ________ (true) behind what happened.45.Peter ________ (regret) wasting much time playing computer games and failed his exam. 46.All that ________ (matter) is that you are safe. The underlined words “sitting on” in the passage probably mean ___________.A. fail to realizeB. forget to useC. try to developD. manage to showCIt’s in the 2010s.You feel sick, so you go to the doctor. She checks your fever, looks at your throat, and asks what you’ve been thinking about lately. When you leave, she gives you somemedicine, but also a list of thinking skills that you are supposed to practice daily. She says that the way you think is causing some of your illness.Doctors and other scientists who study the human mind and try to explain why people act in the way that they do, called psychologists (心理学家), are starting to believe it. You know that your brain (脑) is connected to every part of your body through your nervous system (神经系统). Now scientists have proved that how you think and feel can have an influence on the health of your body.Stress is caused whenever there is a problem or a change in your life. Of course, everybody has stress more or less; nobody’s life is perfect. In fact, stress is necessary. Without stress, we would never learn anything or grow or change. We would probably be bored to death. But too much stress can hurt you. It can weaken your body’s protection so that you are more likely to catch diseases. It can even make you more likely to have an accident. When you feel stressed, your brain sends a message to your body to produce a chemical called adrenaline (肾上腺素). Adrenaline speeds up your breathing and your heartbeat. Today you have a different kind of stress. Problems like endless homework or troubles with your family are the kind of things you can’t fight or run away from, so you don’t use up all that adrenaline. It just stays bottled up inside you, and that’s what can do something bad to you. What can you do about stress? First, you can try to find ways to change things so you aren’t under so much stress. You can set up a plan to finish homework or go to a doctor or a psychologist to try to work things out with your family or your friends. But sometimes you can’t change a stressful situation. Sometimes you don’t even want to. A big change might be a good change, but it will still be stressful. The link (关联) between your body and brain works in two ways. Your body can help your mind deal with stress. If you are under stress, you need to take especially good care of your body. It’s important to get enough sleep and eat nutritious (有营养的) meals. Some people take a vitamin-mineral pill every day. Another thing that you can do is daily exercise. If you go walking or do aerobic dancing or work out at the gym (体育馆), you give your body a chance to burn up some of that adrenaline. Of course, a person who isn’t used to much physical activity should start slowly. Anyone with a continuing physical problem should check with a doctor before starting any exercise programs.31. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. You shouldn’t go to the g ym if you are under stress.B. One can do his homework to burn up adrenaline.C. Disease and accidents are caused by stress.D. Everyone needs stress to improve himself.32. From the last sentence of Paragraph 5 we can infer (推断) that _____________.A. it’s difficult to change a stressful situationB. it’s not stressful when a good change takes placeC. a big change will cause another stressful situationD. a stressful situation can’t be changed without any effort33. What is probably the best title for this passage?A. The Body-Brain LinkB. The Causes of StressC. The Advice on HealthD. The Nervous SystemDLONDON—Scientists have found an unusual way to prevent our planet from overheating: move it to a cooler spot. All you have to do is to send a few comets (彗星) in the direction of Earth, and its orbit (轨道) will be changed. Our world will then be sent moving into a safer older part of the solar system. This idea for improving our climate comes from a group of US NASA (美国航空航天局) engineers and American astronomers. They say their plan could add another six billion years to the useful lifetime of our planet—hopefully doubling its working life. The plan put forward by Dr. Laughlin, and his colleagues Don Korycansky and Fred Adams, needs carefully directing a comet or asteroid (小行星) so that it passes close by our planet and sends some of its gravitational energy (重力势能) to Earth.“Earth’s orbital speed would increase as a result and we would move to a higher orbit away fro m the sun,” Laughlin said.Engineers would then direct their comet so that it passed close to Jupiter (木星) or Saturn(土星). The comet would pick up energy from one of these giant planets. Later its orbit would bring it back to Earth, and the process would be repeated. In the short term, the plan provides an ideal way to worldwide warming, although the team was actually worried about a much greater danger. The sun is certain to heat up in about a billion years and so “seriously compromise” our biosphere (生物圈)—by cooking us.That’s why the group decided to try to save Earth. The plan has one or two worrying sides, however. For a start, space engineers would have to be very careful about how they directed their asteroid or comet towards Earth. The smallest miscalculation (误算) in orbit could fire it straight at Earth—with deadly results. There is also the question of the moon. As the present issue of Scientific American magazine points out, if Earth was pushed out of its present location, it is “most likely the moo n would be stripped (剥离) away from Earth,” it states. This would greatly change our planet’s climate.34. What makes the scientists plan to move Earth?A. A few comets are moving to the direction of Earth.B. Earth’s working life is coming to an end soon.C. Earth will become too hot for mankind to keep alive.D. The moon is moving farther and farther away from Earth.35. If the plan is successful, Earth will have a working life of ________ years.A. 12 billionB. 6 billionC. 18 billionD. 24 billion36. What serious problems might the plan cause according to the passage?A. The comet might hit Earth and man might lose the moon.B. Earth might be moved too far away and man might die because of the coldness.C. The comet might hit Jupiter or Saturn and never return to Earth.D. Earth’s working life might be greatly shortened.37. What does the underlined word “compromise” mean?A. provideB. benefit (受益)C. shareD. endanger第二卷主观题(共40分)四、单词拼写(本大题共8分,每小题1分)(A) 根据句意和汉语注释,写出单词的正确形式。

But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, clothing sales fell. Now holiday sales might tempt you with deals on the latest styles. Yet many of these bargains (便宜货) have hidden costs for the environment—and your wallet.“Fast fashion” refers to how the clothing industry quickly produces lots of cheap clothes and gets them to stores every few weeks. The practice lets shoppers buy new styles all the time. And clothes prices are low. But many of these clothes quickly wear out or go out of style. Their price tags also don’t include all of the clothes’ environmental costs.“The problem starts with how we think about fashion,” says Kirsi Niinimaki. She’s a fashion, textile and design researcher. “Everyone nowadays owns too many clothes. And we use them a really short time and then dispose of them,” she says. Even if something stays in your closet for years, you might only end up wearing it some 40 times.Kirsi was part of a team that looked at many studies on the environmental costs of the fashion industry. They found that this industry caused 8 to 10 percent of the global emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The industry is also responsible (有责任的) for about one-fifth of the world’s industrial water pollution. And people produce more than 92 million metric tons of textile and clothing waste each year, the team found. Its report appeared in the April issue of Nature Reviews.Fashion is a global industry, as Pietra Rivoli learned. She’s an economist at Georgetown University. Rivoli bought a cotton T-shirt in Florida. The tag said it was made in China. But, she learned, the factory had gotten most of its cotton from Texas. Used or unwanted T-shirts are often popular in Africa. There, people sold them for reuse. She wrote about her findings in The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy. The journey of your own clothes from fiber to finished products comes with environmental costs. Scientists and engineers have been working on ways to limit some of these influences.28.The underlined phrase “dispose of” means “________”.A.own B.wear C.reuse D.throw away 29.Which of the following statements is TRUE?A.The fashion industry wastes resources and increases the greenhouse effects.B.The fashion industry has caused about 50% of the world’s industrial water pollution. Every hour there was filled with shock and frightening surprise. Here was neither peace, nor rest, nor a moment’s safety—only endless noise and movement. At every moment life itself was in danger, because these dogs and men were not town dogs and men. They knew only the law of club and tooth.Buck had never seen dogs fight like these dogs: they were like wolves. He learnt this from his friend, Curly. She tried to make friends with a big dog. But without warning, the dog jumped on Curly. Curly’s face was torn open from eye to mouth. And the fight did not finish then. More dogs ran up and made a circle around the fight, watching silently. Curly tried to attack the dog who had bitten her. He bit her a second time, and jumped away. When Curly tried to attack again, he knocked her backwards. And she fell on the ground. Curly never stood up, and this was what the other dogs were waiting for. In a moment, she was under a crowd of dogs. Then Francois and other men with clubs jumped in among the dogs. Soon the dogs were chased away. But Curly lay dead in the snow, her body torn almost to pieces. Curly’s death often came back to Buck in his dreams. He understood that once a dog was down on the ground, he was dead. That night Buck discovered a problem. Where was he going to sleep? He found Francois was in the tent. Buck followed him quietly. But when he went in and wanted to sleep in the corner, Francois shouted angrily and beat him with a club. Buck ran out and walked around the tent, very, very cold, wondering what to do. Suddenly, the snow under his feet fell in, and he felt something move. He jumped back, waiting for the attack, but heard only a friendlybark. There, in a warm hole under the snow, was Billee. So he knew what he could do. ▲ . He slept well, although his dreams were bad.In the north, Buck was learning the law of club and tooth. He learnt to eat any food—anything that he could get his teeth into. He learnt to break the ice on water holes with his feet when he wanted to drink. He learnt to travel through the forest and kill for meat with wild dogs. He was stronger, and could see and smell better than ever before. It was easy for him to learn to fight like a wolf, because it was in his blood.31.Curly’s death made Buck realize ________ in the north.①how terrible the new life was①the secret of winning a friend①how dangerous the men were①the importance of fighting like wolvesA.①①B.①①C.①①D.①①32.Which of the following can be put in ▲ .A.Buck slept outside the tent silentlyB.Buck lay on the snow and finally fell asleepC.Buck ran into the tent secretly and rested in the cornerD.Buck dug himself a hole and soon was warm and asleep33.What’s the best title for the passage?A.The way to be wild.B.A cold world for dogs.C.The terrible days.D.A clever dog.A Pathway (路径) to Meaning in LifeWhen it comes to a meaningful life, we might think of love, happiness and health. A life filled with meaning is what most of us want for ourselves. Then, what makes a meaningful life? Many researchers agree that a meaningful life comes down to three factors (因素): having long-term goals, believing that one’s life matters, and feeling that one’s life fits together and “makes sense”.But we believe there is more to consider. Sometimes life enables us to experience small moments of beauty. When people are open to appreciating (欣赏) such experiences, these moments may improve how they see their own life. We call this experiential appreciation (EA). EA is about the person feeling connected to events and being able to appreciate the value within the connection. It shows the discovery of and admiration for life’s beauty. We recently set out to better understand EA in studies. We were interested in whether EA was also tied to general judgment of meaning in life. If so, it could be a factor for meaningfulness. In the first study, we had people rate (评估) their support for different methods of reducing stress. We found that people who managed stress by focusing on their appreciation for life’s beauty also reported experiencing life as highly meaningful. In the next study, we asked people to rate the degree to which they agreed with various statements, such as “I appreciate the beauty of life” and “I appreciate little things in life,” as well as other statements that related to the three factors and a general sense of meaning in life. Our results showed that the more people reported that they were “appreciating life” and its many experiences, the more they felt their life was valuable. In the following studies, we further looked at the connection between EA and meaningfulness. For example, we found that people who were asked to look back on the most meaningful event of the past week generally reported high EA in those moments. All the results proved our theory (假设) true. But putting it into practice can be difficult. Our fast-paced lifestyles fill the day with goals. We try to get the highest output both at work and in spare time. This focus on future outcomes makes it all too easy to miss what is happening right now. We should slow down and let life surprise us.34.You were most probably in the EA condition when _________.A.you made a travel plan for the coming holidayB.you hurried to serve the customers in the storeC.you practiced hard to become the best violinistD.you stopped to admire the roses by the roadside35.What can we learn from the studies mentioned in the passage?A.Thinking back to the past weakens our sense of meaning.B.Enjoying small things can influence our attitude toward life.C.Proper stress management is the key to living a satisfying life.D.Good judgment on beauty improves connections among people.36.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?A.It is easier for results-driven people to achieve success.B.We often turn a blind eye to the present moment.C.A fast-paced lifestyle helps us reach our goals.D.Future life will bring us many more surprises.37.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?A.To explain how to discover beauty in life.B.To discuss what the true meaning of life is.C.To introduce a new factor for a meaningful life.D.To compare different factors for meaningfulness.四、根据汉语提示填空38.Nearly 10% of the Earth’s ________ (表层) is covered by ice.39.To be honest, I’ve never found a diet that really ________ (奏效).40.The world-famous group I like best will have a new song ________ (录制). 41.She was still only half ________ (醒着的) when I brought her a cup of coffee.五、用所给单词的正确形式填空42.Breathing ________(heavy), I stopped and sat down to rest.43.Ivan has a ________ (live) mind in everything than his playmates.44.The free trade _________ (agree) were finally reached during a meeting at the UN. 45.Kids should be taught where to go into ________ (hide) if an earthquake happens. 46.—Please pour me a cup of tea.—Tea?
