Ⅰ阅读理解(2018·江西师大附中、临川一中联考)“My neighbor doesn’t speak English, but her kindness needs no translation.”Angie Morris, an 81yearold Canadian woman who grew up in wartime Britain and now lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, was describing how her nextdoor neighbor, Ms. Wing, a 68yearold Chinese woman, voluntarily cooks meals for her every day. She called it “the ultimate home-delivery service”.Morris’s moving, firstperson narrative which was published last week by the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, has gone popular, with more than 24,000 online reposts.“I know what is inside the paper carrier bag,”she wrote. “A thermos with hot soup and a stainlesssteel container with a meal of rice, vegetables and either chicken, meat or shrimp, sometimes with a kind of pancake. This has become an almost daily occurrence.”Wing started her act of kindness when she learned that Morris had to undergo heart surgery. She took it upon herself to begin feeding her neighbor, even though the two women have no way of communicating verbally. Wing speaks only Mandarin, and Morris’s Mandarin is limited to ni hao(hello).“So here we are, two grandmothers a world away from where we were raised, neither of us able to speak the other’s language, but communicating one way or another(with some help from technology). The doorbell keeps ringing and there is the familiar brown paper carrier bag, handed smilingly to me by Wing,”Morris wrote.Readers and netizens around the world have been touched by this relationship that crosses national boundaries and focuses on human kindness.“You know that most people in this world just want to live a good life,”one reader commented. “I come from old Ireland, so I can tell you a thing or two about conflict. The point is, most people are very good with big hearts and want their children to grow up safe and in places like this country can offer.”【解题导语】互为邻居的两位老人温女士与安吉·莫里斯虽然语言不通无法交流,但温女士在得知莫里斯要做手术的消息后,主动为其做饭。

2019届外研版高考英语一轮复习练习:必修3Module4知能演练轻松闯关含答案解析Ⅰ阅读理解(2018·东北三省四市模拟)On April 14th, 2010, my entire life changed in an instant. One moment I was joyfully riding through the sunshine. The next moment, metal, flesh and bones were spreading against the pavement in a thunderous crash. Another cyclist, biking carelessly, had cut me off and sent me supermanning toward oncoming traffic. As if to symbolize the accident that had hit my life, another disaster also occurred on April 14th, 2010. It cost the airline industry $ 1.7 billion. Ten million travelers were stuck for days. Economics all over the world were disturbed. This was the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull, one of Iceland’s many volcanoes. However, volcanoes are not all bad. In fact, they are necessary. They are responsible for the birth of new earth, and for the creation of rich soil. This eruption gave off 0.15 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere daily. But cancelling 48% of t he world’s flight travel saved about 2.8 million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, temporarily decreasing our carbon footprint.Similarly, the accident had badly affected my emotion but it also allowed me to look more closely inside myself and discover things about myself I would never have realized. I learned how not to judge myself for my new limitations. In 1973, another Icelandic volcano, Eldfell, broke out. Icelanders decided to bomb it with cold water until it froze and chose a different path. After their plan worked, they used thegeothermal(地热的) energy for the next 15 years to heat their homes. A good example of life bringing lemons, and making lemonade! One must move on from misfortunes, focusing only on the present moment and being hopeful for the future.I ran from April 14th, 2010, to every kind of escape. Eventually I ended up in university for a new-found love in Earth sciences.【解题导语】作者把自己遭遇突发事件和火山爆发这种自然灾害进行类比,说明遭遇到不幸也有好处,面对现实情况要乐观积极。

Ⅰ阅读理解(2018·成都高三诊断性检测)Johannes Vermeer is such a quiet and introspective(内省的)artist that it took hundreds of years for anyone to notice he was a genius.A major Vermeer exhibition opens this month at the Louvre in Paris, whose permanent collection includes his great painting of a woman absorbed in close, visually demanding work, The Lacemaker (about 1669-1670). Like other paintings by Vermeer, this image represents modern culture. So attracted are today’s art lovers by Vermeer that it was thought shocking when a recent survey found that 82% of Americans can’t name who painted Girl w ith a Pearl Earring. Well, maybe they don’t go to the movies much.It is not true to say he was forgotten—that would suggest he was famous in his lifetime. He was not. Vermeer was one more painter among the many who worked for money in the Dutch Republic in the 17th century. He was not a star like Rembrandt. He obviously took himself and his art seriously. His self-referential painting The Art of Painting proves that. Even though he worked all his life in Delft, he painted only 35 known works and left his family poor when he died in 1675 at the age of 43.It is fitting that Paris is celebrating Vermeer, because it was the French avantgarde(先锋派) in the 19th century who saved him from being completely forgotten. Compare his painting Woman in Blue Reading a Letter or The Little Street with, say, Edouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère(1882)or Camille Pissarro’s The Boule v ard Montmartre at Night(1897) and it is easy to see why the art of Vermeer found its natural audience in Parisian Bohemia. All these artists are likely to have known about and admired Vermeer due to the efforts of the critic ThoréBürger, a veteran of the 1848 Revolution.Vermeer’s rediscovery is part of the history of modern French art. Vermeer is not only a great artist. He is a great modern artist.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了著名画家Johannes Vermeer的生平和他的艺术特点。

阅读限时练Ⅰ阅读理解A(2018·惠州调研)When I was a boy we used to live across the roadfrom a big hill with huge oak trees growing out of it. When winter arrived, thick and heavy snow would fall, and my two brothers would grab theirsleds heading over to the hill for a day of fun. I remember watching themwith envy because I was still too small to go sledding. Finally, one winterI was considered big enough and joined my brothers as they carried their sleds up the long hill and prepared to ride down it.The first few trips I rode with one of my brothers had the time of my life.It was so exhilarating when the wind whipped across my face as I flew down the hillside on the wooden sled.Near the end of the day I was too overjoyed when my oldest brother decided to let me try riding the sled all by myself. I climbed on it full of excitement and lay on my stomach. Then with one big push my brother sent me down the snowy hillside.I was doing pretty well too until I hit an old stump hidden by the snow and went off course, straight towards one of those big oak trees. My heart pounded in my chest and I could hear myself screaming. At the last possible second I rolled off and the sled crashed into the tree.I could hear my brothers running down the hill yelling,“You have to steer(操控)! You have to steer!”Sadly, that wasn’t the last time I failed to steer when some obstacle knocked me off course in my life. Many times problems, troubles, and my own failures have sent me crashing into the trees of anger, frustration, and despair. I am still learning that life isn’t always safe sledding. I am still learning that it is up to me to steer myself back to love, back to kindness, back to goodness, and back to God.Life is a trip, but no one ever said it was a smooth ride.Steer well then.Steer straight.Steer your soul towards the light and the love that are all meant for us.【解题导语】作者小时候有一次滑雪时差点撞到橡树上,但在最后一刻,作者翻滚到雪地里才得以化险为夷,同时他学到了一个人生道理:学会自我掌控.1、What do we know about the author when he was very young?A、He lived on a big hill with huge oak trees on it.B、He was frightened to go sledding with his brothers.C、He longed to go sledding with his brothers.D、He carried his brothers’sleds as they went sledding.C解析:细节理解题.根据第一段第三句“I remember watching them with envy because Iwas still too small to go sledding.”可知,作者因为年龄太小不能去滑雪,只能嫉妒地看着哥哥们玩.据此可知,作者小时候很渴望和哥哥们一起滑雪,故C项正确.2、Which of the following can replace the underlined word“exhilarating” in Paragraph 2?A、Delightful.B、Terrifying.C、Ordinary.D、Violent.A解析:词义猜测题.根据第二段第二句“It was so exhilarating when the wind whipped across my face as I flew down the hillside on the wooden sled.” 3、Why did the author fall off his sled?A、Because his sled crashed into an oak tree.B、Because he lost control of his sled.C、Because his brother pushed it so hard.D、Because the hillside was snowy.B解析:推理判断题.根据第二段中的“I was doing pretty well...one of those big oak trees.”可知,作者撞到了雪地里的一个树桩,然后径直撞向一棵大橡树,再结合该段中的“At the last possible second... the tree.”可知,作者在快要撞到橡树的那一刻从雪橇上翻滚下来,从而避开了危险.据此可以判断,作者从雪橇上掉下来是因为他失去了对雪橇的控制.故B项正确.4、What does the author mean to tell us?A、Losing control of a sled can be dangerous.B、Courage and determination can change one’s life.C、Life can be controlled by oneself.D、Life is a mystery full of coincidences.C解析:推理判断题.通过全文再结合文章最后一段的前两句“Life is a trip, but no one ever said it was a smooth ride. Theproblem is, many of us refuse to listen.Don’t get me wrong: Digital reading has some real advantages. Ask people what they like most about reading on digital screens, and you hear over and over again about convenience. More points for digital reading:ebooks tend to be cheaper. There’s also the environmental argument. Think of the trees!Yet the soundness of this case is arguable. The earth metals to build ereaders are not just rare but highly poisonous. And think about all that energy needed to run servers and cooling fans. And remember, trees are a renewable resource. Then, there’s the appeal of a hard copy. Many people prefer print when reading both for pleasure and for school or work. Drawing examples from my own research, some of the reasons are aesthetic(美学的). Others involve a sense of accomplishment, ease of annotation(“I can write on the pages”), and navigation(“easy to locate where I was”). Meanwhile, I hear abundant complaints about eye strain(眼疲劳) and headaches when using screens.Much of what students liked about reading print involved their minds. They say “it’s easier to focus”. Some also acknowledged they took more time with printed text and read more carefully. But what makes the failure of electronic reading is concentration. More than 92% of those I surveyed said they concentrated best when reading a hard copy. My parents lived a great distance away, and I was too ashamed to let them know about our situation. My husband was trying to earn a living with an old pick-up truck, carrying groceries for local shopkeepers, but it was constantly breaking down. It took almost all the money we had to have it fixed. The truck was also the only means of transportation for us.We lived in the countryside, and we always used the back door because the driveway led to it. One winter evening, I stepped outside to take a bag of trash to the barrel and almost tripped over something. It was nearly dark, and I had to bend down to see what it was. I could hardly believe my eyes. There sat a large basket loaded with food.It was heavy, so I called my husband to carry it into the house. Once inside, we discovered two loaves of bread, some butter, several cans of vegetables, a can of orange sauce, and a large turkey. There was so much that I couldn’t remember it all, but it was everything we needed to fix a wonderful dinner—everything except potatoes.A little while later I remembered that I hadn’t taken the trash to the barrel. By now it was dark, so I had to turn on the yard light—and that’s when I spotted a small bag of potatoes sitting on the porch. That dinner was the best I could remember. We weren’t able to thank our donators, though, because we never found out who had been so generous in helping a struggling young family. Either way, it could be the perfect crime, because the criminals are birds—homing pigeons! The crime begins with a telephone message to the owner of a stolen car: If you want the car back, pay up. Then, the car owner is directed to a park, told where to find a bird cage and how to attach money to the neck of the pigeon inside. Carrying the money in a tiny bag, the pigeon flies off. There have been at least four such pigeon pick-ups in Changwa. What at first seemed like the work of a clever stay-at-home car thief, however, may in fact be the work of an even lazier and more inventive criminal mind—one that avoids not only collecting money but also going out to steal the car in the first place. Police officer Chen says that the criminal probably has pulled a double trick: He gets money for things he cannot possibly return. Instead of stealing cars, he letssomeone else do it and then waits for the car-owner to place an ad in the newspaper asking for help. The theory is supported by the fact that, so far, none of the stolen cars have been returned. Also, the amount of money demanded—under 3,000 Taiwan dollars—seems too little for a car worth many times more.Demands for pigeon-delivered money stopped as soon as the press reported the story. And even if they start again, Chen holds little hope of catching the criminal. “We have more important things to do,”he said.【解题导语】本文介绍了一种新型的犯罪行为.台湾的警察无法断定这到底是聪明的盗窃行为还是更加聪明的诈骗行为,因为罪犯是信鸽.4.After the car-owner received a phone call, he________.A.went to a certain pigeon and put some money in the bag it carriedB.gave the money to the thief and had his car back in a parkC.sent some money to the thief by mailD.told the press about itA解析:细节理解题.根据第二段中的“Then, the car owner is directed to a park, told where to find a bird cage and how to attach money to the neck of the pigeon inside.”可知,车主接到电话后,他会被指示去某个公园找到鸟笼,把钱系到鸟笼内鸽子的脖子上.故选A项.5.The writer mentions the fact that “none of the stolen cars have been returned”to show________.A.how easily people get fooled by criminalsB.what Chen thinks might be correctC.the thief is extremely cleverD.the money paid is too littleB解析:推理判断题.根据文章第三段中的“He gets money for things he cannot possibly return.”可知,警察认为那些丢车的人根本不可能拿回他的车.故选B项.6.The underlined word “they” in the last paragraph refers to________.A.criminalsB.pigeonsC.the stolen carsD.demands for moneyD解析:词义猜测题.上文提到一旦报纸报道了这件事,这样的事情就没有了.由此可知they就是指代上文提到的Demands for pigeon-delivered money.故选D项.7.We may infer that the criminal knows how to reach the car-owners because________.A.he reads the ads in the newspaperB.he lives in the same neighborhoodC.he has seen the car-owners in the parkD.he has trained the pigeons to follow themA解析:细节理解题.根据文章第三段最后一句“... waits for the car-owner to place an ad in the newspaper asking for help.”可知,罪犯看了报纸上的广告然后找到丢车的人.故选A 项.C(2018·湖南部分重点中学考前演练)I’m sometimes told, “You have to make your own luck. If you don’t try something, how can you succeed?” This is very true for competitions. There are people who regularly take part in all sorts of competitions with great enthusiasm. These people are nicknamed compers. The motivation for being a comper is obvious:it’s about being a winner and being rewarded with a prize. These prizes can be small or large:from a box of chocolates to a new car, a trip of a lifetime around the world, or even a new house. Isn’t that worth competing for?Of course competitions that offer money prizes attract entry from millions of people, making the odds of winning very unlikely. But one man who has been lucky is a retired lecturer from the U.K. called Martin Dove. He is a serial comper and has managed to bag prizes such as a yacht and a racehorse.Martin says:“I’ve been a comper for 40 years. It’s like admitting some addiction, isn’t it?” He gets respect from other compers and also admits,“Some people have called me the Master of Comping, the King of Comping, the Guru of Comping. But it’s just a word, just a phrase. It’s just because I frequently appeared in the media.”For many, winning remains a dream, but they continue to try their luck as there’s always a small chance that they might succeed. But what if you do win? Then you have to ask:how am I going to spend all that money? Some people say that “money can’t buy you happiness”. Yes,you read that correctly—the very mode of transportation that many American schools insist is the only safe way to deliver kids to school is now considered illegal in the U.K.The decision to fine any vehicles seen dropping off or picking up kids within a particular zone of east London comes from city councilors’(议员) long-term efforts to make the area safer and less crowded. They say they’ve been trying for years “to encourage reasonable parking”,but in vain. Neighborhood residents complain frequently about their driveways being blocked by illegally parked cars for 15 minutes or more, often while they’re trying to get to work, and the streets are long overcrowded. Now the rules have changed. Some parents are angry. Angie is a mother who made the “big hammer”comment and says the crackdown is “way over the top”.The nearest dropoff point for her sixyearold is now a fiveminute walk from the school. Others are happy with the decision, severe though it may seem.Councilor Jason Frost said: “Traffic has been clearly reduced, and more children are now walking to school, which is a great outcome.I would rather have complaints that we are slightly inconveniencing parents than hear that a child had been seriously injured because nothing was done.”I witness daily the chaos(混乱) created by these in-town drivers, when I walk my own kids to school. There’s a chance that, sooner or later, youmight have to move further than you were thinking, as far as Mars(火星).On Thursday, National Geographic will show the first ever Mars show home, giving earthlings an idea of what their life could look like on the Red Planet. Set in the notsodistant year of 2037, the iglooshaped structure could be the home of your future. It shows a house built using recycled spacecraft parts and Martian soil, called regolith, which has been microwaved into bricks. Some parts of the home are recognisable—kitchen, bedroom—but there are fundamental differences that are vital for human survival. As the Martian atmosphere is around one hundredth as thick as the Eart h’s, people will need permanent shelter from the sun and society will move largely indoors. Most buildings will be connected by underground passages and the houses won’t have windows. The homes will have simulated solar lighting, or natural light that has been bent several times.Walls will need to be 10 to 12 feet thick, to protect people from dangerous rays that can pass through six feet of steel, and a double airlocked entrance to keep the home under proper pressure.“We don’t think of our houses as things that keep us alive, but on Mars your house will be a survival centre,”says Stephen Petranek, author of Ho w We’ll Li v e on Mars. This is not just the stuff of scifi. “Ten to twenty years from now there will certainly be people on Mars,”Petranek says.“We’ve had the technology for 30 years to land people on Mars, but we haven’t had the will,”Petranek says. “But two main factors have completely swung public attitudes.”The private companies’participation has forced government agencies to up their game, and influential films such as Gra v ity and The Martian have caught society’s eye.【解题导语】本文主要对人类未来在火星上居住作了相关介绍。

Ⅰ阅读理解(2018·合肥高三质检)May Day, the first day of May, is celebrated as aspring festival in many countries. It marks the approach of summer. The English developed their May Day festival from the Roman festival called Floralia. In the festival of Floralia, the Romans gathered flowers to honor the goddess of spring, Flora. In the Middle Ages, May Day became the favorite holiday of many English villages. People gathered flowers to decorate their homes and churches, sang spring songs and chose a king and a queen of May. Villagers danced around a tall pole fixed upright in the ground, called a maypole, each holding the end of a ribbon attached to the top of the pole. They tied the ribbons around the pole until it was covered with bright colors. They collected dew(露水) on May Day morning and washed their faces with it because they believed that the dew on the day had the magic power to regain youth.Nowadays in Britain people no longer attach great importance to the day, but in some towns and villages people still celebrate it by choosing the May Queen and dancing around the maypole. May Queen is a girl selected as the most beautiful girl on May Day. She is usually crowned with flowers and often driven in procession through the street. In the United States, the day has never been celebrated with the same enthusiasm as in Britain. But in many American towns and cities, children celebrate the day with dancing and singing. They often gather flowers in handmade paper baskets and hang them on the doorknobs of the homes of their friends’ and neighbors’ on May Day morning. At May Day parties, children select May Queen, dance around the maypole, and sing May Day songs.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。
