Building a Harmonious Society
Development in the new century involves building a harmonious society. Faced with this new concept, some people still maintain that urgent task is to develop economy on a large scale. On the other hand, there are many people who insist that environmental protection is of first importance. They claim that we have only one mother earth. If our environment is heavily polluted, we could not survive on this planet. Second, they believe that the rapid and advanced development of economy leads to many of the serious problems. If the problem is left unsolved, we may soon have no water fit to drink, no clean air to breathe, let alone develop our economy.
