There is a deep-rooted concept in many people’s minds that money is the only yardstick of success . in such a materialistic society ,it is nature that people are inclined to assess their success with money . actually there are many types of success, some are associated with wealth and some are not . so it seems to me that there should be something else besides money by which we measure success.
While it is true that a successful businessman or inventor will usually become rich , many other people who are outstanding in certain fields do not regard money as their honor. Although they gain glory for their countries , they only draw a small salary . as another example ,lei feng devoted all of his short life
to helping others , and is believed to have led a successful and meaningful life . however ,he owned almost no personal possession.
Moreover , it may be misguiding to have money as the only yardstick of success. It may motivate people to get money by unfair or even malicious ways .
for instance ,some people may quickly get rich by cheating others or even slipping through without paying taxes to their countries . we can occasionally see or hear about such examples in our daily life.
