I couldn’t help but feel frustrated that none of my classmates had shown up for Ruth’s birthday party. I heard soft cries coming from Ruth. When I looked up, I saw tears streaming down her face. All at once my eight-year-old heart was filled with sympathy for her and full of rage at my 35 selfish classmates. Determined to make the best of the situation, I made a silent decision to be there for Ruth and celebrate her special day, even if it meant doing it alone.We two started with the cake, enjoying each bite. It was just the two of us, but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. We shared stories and laughter. Later, we played games, danced to our favorite songs, and even attempted to make our own paper crowns. Though the room may have been lacking the expected crowd, our bond grew stronger with each passing minute. In a flash it was noon. Mom was honking outside. Ruth hugged me tightly. With tears in her eyes, she whispered, “Thank you! You’ve made my day!” Sure enough, I had made a big difference in Ruth’s ninth birthday, and Mom had made a big difference in my life.

The Influence of Western Culture on English。

The influence of Western culture on English is undeniable. With the rise of the British Empire and the spread of American pop culture, English has become the most widely spoken language in the world. This dominance hasbeen largely due to the influence of Western culture on the language, which has shaped its vocabulary, grammar, and usage.One of the most significant ways in which Westernculture has influenced English is through the adoption of words and phrases from other languages. For example,English has borrowed heavily from Latin, French, and German, among other languages. This borrowing has enriched the language, giving it a diverse vocabulary that allows speakers to express themselves in a variety of ways. In addition, Western culture has also influenced the grammar and syntax of English, leading to the development of newforms and structures that have become standard in the language.Furthermore, Western culture has had a profound impact on the usage of English. Through literature, film, music, and other forms of media, Western culture has spread around the world, bringing with it the English language. As a result, English has become the lingua franca of the global economy, politics, and entertainment, further solidifying the influence of Western culture on the language.In addition to shaping the language itself, Western culture has also influenced the way in which English is taught and learned. Western educational methods and ideologies have been widely adopted in the teaching of English as a second language, leading to the development of standardized curricula, textbooks, and testing methods. This has helped to spread the influence of Western culture on English to a global audience, ensuring that the language continues to be shaped by Western values and norms.However, while the influence of Western culture onEnglish has been largely positive, it has also led to concerns about the preservation of other languages and cultures. As English continues to spread around the world, it has been accused of eroding local languages and traditions, leading to a loss of cultural diversity. This has sparked debates about the need to protect and promote linguistic and cultural diversity in the face of the dominance of Western culture and the English language.In conclusion, the influence of Western culture on English has been profound and far-reaching. From its vocabulary and grammar to its global usage and teaching methods, Western culture has shaped the English language in significant ways. While this influence has brought many benefits, it has also raised important questions about the preservation of linguistic and cultural diversity in the face of the dominance of Western culture and the English language. As English continues to evolve and spread, itwill be important to consider these issues and strive for a balance that respects the contributions of Western culture while also preserving the richness of other languages and cultures.。

American Pop Culture |

简单地说,way作副词意思等于very much和a great deal, 用来形容程度很深。

His English is very good, but his Spanish is way better.(他英语很好,但他西班牙语要好得多。

)My mom is way cool!
You know what?
“You know what?”

不妨把“You know what?”看成是“You know this?”

You know what? We’re through.

)
You know what? I’ve never liked physics, and I never will.

)

She thinks she’s the center of the universe and the whole world should revolve around her. You know what?

I’m so fed up with people trying to force their religions down my throat! You know what? I don’t care what you believe in. Just go away!

Good grief! It’s been two hours, and you still haven’t made up your mind. You know what? That dress is great. You should take it.(天哪!

当然,“you know what?”

We should try this.”(你知道吗?

另外,还有一个跟“You know what?”类似、但感觉上比较客气一点说法: “I’ll tell you what.”在这里,依旧可以把what看成是this,所以“I’ll tell you what.”就是“I’ll tell you this.”

I’ll tell you what. I’m going out there and give it my best shot. It really doesn’t matter if I win or not.

)Tell you what.
I have decided to study French.

)。
