These neurons in animals’ brains can put them into a hibernation state. The researchers also did operations on mice after turning on the mice’s “Q neurons”. It turned out that during hibernation, the operations do less harm to the mice.According to the team, humans’ “O neurons”cannot be turned on and off as easily as the mice’s. But they are confident in copying the mice’s hibernation in humans. That means we could let people “hibernate”when having operations, causing less damage to their bodies. In recent years, more scientists are getting to realize the benefits of hibernation. US scientist Katherine Grabek found that when the thirteen-lined ground squirrel hibernates, it cleans out harmful brain plaques that are related to Alzheimer’s in humans. They hope to design some medicine for humans based on this finding. Besides, some studies in bats show that, during hibernation, their bodies age more slowly. This also provides new ideas for making humans live longer in the future, according to New Scientist magazine. At the same time, scientists have found a lot of fun facts on animals. For example, a bat’s heart rate drops to 25 beats per minute during hibernation—down from 400 when it’s awake. Its breathing slows so much that it might not take a breath for up to an hour! Also, a black bear can go without eating, drinking or going to the bathroom for 100 days. During hibernation, their wounds even heal perfectly.12.Paragraph 2 introduces _________.A.what is needed for hibernation B.where animals usually hibernateC.what kind of animals hibernate D.what happens during hibernation 13.What have Japanese researchers found?A.Humans don’t have “Q neurons” as mice do.B.It’s difficult to turn on the mice’s “Q neurons”.C.It’s impossible for humans to copy the hibernation.D.Doing operations in the hibernation state is less harmful.14.What will happen in the future based on the scientists’ findings?A.People can hibernate whenever they like.B.People may hibernate to slow down aging.C.People may use animals to create new medicine.D.People can go without eating or drinking for 100 days.15.The passage is written to _________.A.share some findings on hibernation B.introduce fun facts on hibernationC.show the achievements in operations D.present a new way of doing operationsA.Make a listB.Reward yourselfC.Do what you enjoyD.Train hardE.Make plans for itF.Set a goal三、完形填空21.A.boring B.exciting C.busy D.difficult 22.A.players B.teachers C.musicians D.artists 23.A.and B.so C.while D.because 24.A.cry B.play C.fail D.perform 25.A.laughed B.shouted C.continued D.explained 26.A.give out B.give away C.give in D.give up 27.A.how B.why C.whether D.when 28.A.class B.team C.family D.classes 29.A.also B.even C.still D.only 30.A.ride B.hand C.call D.lift 31.A.music B.support C.smile D.courage 32.A.terribly B.wonderfully C.carefully D.normally 33.A.show B.game C.meeting D.chance 34.A.hurt B.accepted C.received D.refused 35.A.everybody B.somebody C.anybody D.nobody四、语法填空五、根据首字母填空六、电子邮件参考答案:1.A 2.A 3.C【导语】本文是一篇说明文。

Climate change has made heat waves like this one more frequent and stronger than those from any other point in recorded history. The following is what happens if you’re one of the next people whom heat wave kills, according to W. Lawrence Kenney, an expert from Penn State University. First, your brain sends messages to encourage sweat* production. Then your heart starts beating faster to pump* blood to the skin, and at the same time, blood flow is also directed away from your organs like liver, kidneys, and gut. That’s your body trying to make your skin hotter than the air outside and move heat away from you.If heat stroke* happens, your body might get too hot and send much blood to the skin, as a result, it fails* those important organs in your body. You might require an emergency transplant to survive the organ failure. If your body fails to cool you down, its internal* temperature might start to climb from a normal level of about 98 degrees Fahrenheit to somewhere closer to 104 degrees. At that temperature, the brain becomes affected and you may feel it start as a headache. Before long, you might not know where you are or what time it is. If you are not treated in time, what follows is a series of organ failure that leads to all but certain death. And that’s just part of what we know about how heat wave kills you.“It’s important for people to understand that there’s still a lot we don’t know about heat stroke and who’s most likely to be harmed,” Kenney said, “That’s because we can’t study it in humans in the laboratory. A lot of what we know comes from studies on animal models, like mice and rats, or from examinations of people who have died of heat stroke.”roast v. 烤;sweat n. 汗液;pump v. electronics as well. In 2019, the world produced 53.6 million tons of e-waste. The world’s e-waste will reach 74.7 million tons by 2030. That’s almost a doubling of e-waste in just 16 years.

Today, only 15-20 percent of all e-waste is collected and recycled. Why should we recycle e-waste?E-waste has many valuable things in it, such as gold, silver and copper(铜). One smart phone battery can pollute 600,000 liters(升) of water.

What can we do?Try to repair your electronics instead of buying new ones. Check for recycling organizations and give away your broken electronics. Remove any batteries(电池) because they need to be recycled separately. Tell others to recycle e-waste.
