上面已经说到，只要环境适宜，地球上的动物可以长久生存下去。
而当今大量的动物面临灭绝的一个重要原因就是环境的日益变化，污染使得动物无法适应
新的环境。
人类为了经济目的，急功近利地向自然界施放有毒物质的行为不胜枚举：化工产品、汽车尾气、工业废水、有毒金属、原油泻漏、固体垃圾、去污剂、制冷剂、防腐剂、水体污染、酸雨、温室效应……甚至海洋中军事及船舶的噪音污染都在干扰着鲸类的通讯行为和取食能力。
生活在日本附近海域的海豚，体内含有超量的汞、镉、滴滴涕以及戴奥辛和聚氯联二苯等致癌物质。
一些切割好的海豚肉的汞含量可能会超过安全限度的5000倍。
而造成海豚体内超量的各种有害物质的一个重要原因就在于海洋的严重污染，海豚在一个严重污染的环境下成长，体内肯定就会积聚了过量的有害物质。
这些物质不仅对人体有害，动物本身也会因为体内的有毒物质过重而死亡。
三、人类不合理的饮食文化传统
不同的民族有不同的文化传统，反映在饮食上九表现为不同的民族有不同的饮食习惯。
美国人喜欢吃牛肉、中国人喜欢吃猪，而日本由于地理位置的关系，他们的民族主要以海洋生物未主食。
合理的饮食习惯当然就不会对全球生态的平衡产生负面的影响，但是，由于人类的不合理的饮食习惯，一些本来就属于稀少的动物就会面临着灭绝的危险。
在太地町，很多渔民已经将宰杀海豚视为日常生活的一部分。
他们把抵制杀害海豚的运动看成是对他们文化以及传统的挑战。
当地88岁的居民Mutsuyo Kaino就表示：“这不仅是我们的文化和传统，海豚肉本身也是美味至极。
”日本渔业部发言人鱼谷俊德表示：“人们认为海豚是聪明灵巧的动物，但是在有些地区是有吃海豚肉的传统的。
杀害海豚可能对我们国家的国际形象会造成负面影响，但是这件事情我们也无法下令阻止。
”
由此可见，在日本，食用海豚已经成为了大部分人的习惯，正是由于这个习惯，每年在日本被杀的海豚就达到4万只之高。
伴随着人口膨胀和经济快速发展，由于过度开发加环境污染.动植物的种类和数量以惊人的速度减少，目前我国约有10%的高等植物处于濒危状态，约20%的野生动植物的生存受到严重威胁.。
从中，我们可以看到，拯救即将面临灭绝的动物，已经是亟不可待的一件大事了。
对于这个问题，国际上已经有了比较深入的研究，也提出了很多行之有效的方法，
作为一个门外汉，我就平时在一些媒体上了解到的信息，提出自己的一些鄙见。
一、实行有针对性的意识流教育
人的活动受意识的影响，只要意识端正过来了，行为也就可以改正。
人类对于动物的没有节制的任意捕杀，就在于人类的意识没有跟上时代的步伐。
人与动物是相互依存的统一体，如果动物灭亡了，那么人也不能存在于地球上了，即使光合作用能够给人类提供其他的生存条件，但只要失去了赖以生存的动物，人类也无法继续生存下去。
如果每个人都有这样的意识，那么人类就会认真地考虑与动物之间的关系，这样人与动物之间也就可以平衡了。
其实，人也是动物的一种，其他的动物都没有了，人还能独自存活吗？
二、必要时要果断地施加国际压力
为什么对于濒临没绝的动物的捕杀在很多地方没有很好地得到节制，就是因为受到地方的保护，一个方面可能是因为捕杀动物对于发展他们的经济又很大的作用，另一方面，可能那些执法的相关的部门自己也是其中的一份子。
如果国际上对于这些行为一再让步，那么他们只会更加的放肆。
所以，在必要的时候，果断地施加国际压力还是很有必要的。
国际上对于日本捕杀海豚的行为的谴谪已经不起什么作用了，连日本的官方人员也说对于这些行为也没有办法可行。
对于肆无忌惮的做法，如果国际上还是保持现在的态度，那么捕杀行为永远无法得到遏制，国际必须对这样的行为采取强硬的态度。
三、培养健康的饮食习惯
从上面的论述我们知道，海豚体内含有很多超标的金属物质，这些有害物质对于人体是非常有害的，特别是小孩子。
而日本竟然把海豚作为学校规定的食物，这样会对人体的健康构成直接的威胁。
人们要意识到，不是珍稀的动物就比其他一般的动植物对人体更加有害，相反，一些平常的食物内涵营养价值可能更高。
四、为濒临灭绝的生物提供一个安全的生存环境
我国在这方面做得还是比较好的，东北虎、大熊猫等国家珍稀的动物我们都给他们提供了一个良好的生存环境，例如卧龙野生动物保护区等。
但是，在全球范围内，这样的保护还是不够的。
一些稀缺的动物的生存环境还是不断地受到人
类的骚扰。
如果我们能够为它们赖以生存的环境提供有力的保护，那么它们就能够永远地存活下去。
人与野生动物冲突加剧的根本原因，是由于人口的增加、过度的开发，人占领的领域越来越大，而野生动物的生存空间越来越小，导致野生动物食物不足，活动空间范围与人发生冲突。
因此，解决人与野生动物冲突，实现人与动物的可持续发展的最根本的方法是，划定自然保护区，人要退出保护区，给野生动物留下足够大的生存空间。
另外，要实现人与动物的可持续发展，还要有效地控制全球人口的增长，把人口控制在合理的范围之内。
把握好人类的开采尺度，遏制人类过度开发的行为。
只有把人类的行为控制在河里的范围内，人与动物才能真正达到和谐。
