Information about the class Since English teaching emphasize to arouse students’ interest and focus on the cooperation in study, according to the Standard of English Curriculum(2011). This lesson focuses on interest arousing, practice in life, and creation. There are three shining points in this lesson. First, based on the Standard of English Curriculum(2011), the content is changed practically. Second, the ways of teaching concludes pictures, songs, competitions and games. Last but not least, based on TBLT, there are different tasks in class, which are suitable for every student.
Lesson aim(s) 1. Students can catch the time adverbials in the simple past tense;
2. Students can change the verbs into past forms. 3. Students can write something about things that happened;

Set a background: Today is a big day for me because it’s my daughter Kiwi’s birthday. Show the wechat dialogue between teacher and students about birthday party’s invitation.
Task 1 Brainstorming Based on the real context and by brainstorming, ss share ideas and think of reasons to refuse invitations. At the same time, ss learn some phrases which can be used in the following tasks.
Lead students to think of other reasons to refuse invitations by brainstorming. Show pictures and phrases as examples.
Task 2 Group checking By using the guided learning plan and group checking, ss quickly review the phrases and check how much they master.
Group checking: .Preview and answer (use guided learning plan to preview the phrases before the lesson and check the answers in groups)
Task 3 Quick eyes Look and say By the game of quick eyes, ss drill the phrases and sentences and learn from playing. Quick eyes:(count the time within 1 minute). Show pictures or Chinese and allow students to give phrases. Translate two sentences.
Task 4 Listen and circle Listen and write Before listening, ss have a general idea of the content. By the two listening tasks, ss try to use what they have learned. Listen and circle (change the listening material of 2a and allow students to listen and circle can or can’t.) Listen and write (lead students to listen a dialogue and fill in the blanks to complete the table of 2b.)
Task 5 Pair work By the task of inviting their classmates to come to the party, ss practice the oral expression of invitation in a real context. By scaffolding teaching, ss will be confident and feel easier to express. Let students invite their classmates to come to Kiwi’s party on Saturday. Provide students examples of the dialogues and sentence patterns.
