Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People spend too much money on their pets even though there can be other good ways to spend money. Give details and examples to support your response.

With the rise of the middle class, more and more people spend money on things that are not essential to their daily needs. As the average wealth of households has increased, many trends have emerged. One trend that has appeared recently in my neighborhood is the increase in the amount of money people spend on their pets, and for me this is definitely the truth. The reason why people spend too much money on their pets is because they believe their pets to be more than just animals. They assign to them many human characteristics. This does not mean that I do not like pets. I love pets. My father is a biologists and growing up our house was always filled with lots of strange and unique pets. Pets play a very important role in families and I think we should take care of animals. I love volunteering for the local animal shelter and helping find homes for stray pets. I like taking care of animals and I will be the first to help an animal in need. I do not, however, believe that we should treat pets like humans. My neighbors, on the other hand, have a different opinion. They love their dogs, but I think they are a rather extreme when it comes to taking care of their dogs. For example, their dogs have their own feather beds that cost 300 dollars each. I think tha t’s how much all of the furniture in my bedroom costs! My neighbors claim that their dogs have back problems and that the dogs need these beds. I am not sure the dogs realize this, because last time I visited my neighbors I saw that the dogs had ripped a bunch of holes in these beds. Maybe humans think these dog beds are more comfortable, but I highly doubt that dogs know the difference between a several hundred dollar mattress and a ten dollar mattress. Buying these kinds of luxury items for pets is very silly.Spending exorbitant amounts of money on one’s pet is not only pointless, but it’s also wasteful. It’s pointless because pets can’t determine the quality of an object. It’s wasteful, because there are so many better things on which to spendone’s money. Take for example the animal shelter. Rather than spending 300 dollars on a fancy mattress, my neighbors could have donated that money to the animal shelter. The animal shelter helps find pets homes and helps control the local animal population. Before the animal shelter was set up, my town was overrun with feral cats and stray dogs. Now, thanks to the shelter, those animals have been taken off the streets. If my neighbors loved animals so much, they would try and help as many as they could instead of wasting all of their money on their dogs.I believe people today spend too much money on their pets. I love animals, but I believe there are better ways to spend one’s money. Spending a lot of money on pets is extravagant and senseless. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: People will spend less time on cooking food in twenty years. Food is typically one of the most important parts of a person’s day. “When, what, and where will I eat?”are questions people all over the world ask themselves every day. In twenty years, these questions will remain, but people will not spend less time cooking their own food for several reasons. To begin, food is obviously important to people. People enjoy food that tastes good to them and relish a home-cooked meal. As technology advances and tasks at work are completed more efficiently, people find they have more leisure time. During the extra leisure time, families might begin to cook meals together as an activity to connect with one another. Preparing home-cooked meals is a timeless activity that families participate in and enjoy. For example, families gather for large home-cooked meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas in the United States. These family gatherings are a way for families to reconnect and catch up over a meal.Secondly, it is economical for someone to cook their own meal. Instead of going out to lunch to buy food, people will continue to pack their lunches and eat leftovers. Packing lunches and finishing left overs is not only a great way to save money, but will reduce excess and unnecessary environmental waste, especially if the person is using reusable containers to carry his food. Cooking your own food will not only beimportant in twenty years; it’s important now! With populations skyrocketing all around the world, it has never been more important to reduce unnecessary environmental waste to sustain our world for future generations. Finally, as rates of obesity continue to rise, fast food and eating out is beginning to get a ‘bad rap.’Health is a high priority. When someone cooks themselves a meal, he is completely aware of what is being added, as well as the hygiene of the food because he purchased it. In other words, he is familiar with the food before he eats it. Being conscious of what you are consuming is extremely important, especially in order to stay healthy. Cooking your own food is the best way to maintain your weight and this will certainly not go out of style in twenty years. In twenty years, people will continue to cook their own food. Cooking your own food allows you to spend time with family doing something meaningful for everyone involved, it helps maintain optimal health, and it is economical in many aspects. Some people think that it is an important part of a child's education to go on a field trip (for example, museums), other people think a child's time is better spent learning in a classroom at school. Which do you prefer? I would never suggest that students do their learning entirely through field trips, but I think field trips are an indispensable part of learning.First of all, field trips can make children more enthusiastic about learning. Few children look forward to sitting in a classroom all day listening to lectures, regardless of how interesting the material might be. Field trips do two things to make learning more palatable to kids: they provide a break from the monotony of class, and they give children an opportunity to absorb information in more direct and interesting ways. Trips to science museums are a good example. Instead of reading about planets, kids can see planets projected in vivid color in a planetarium. Instead of reading about sound waves, they can see how sound travels through a series of tubes.Second of all, classroom learning does not prepare people for the real world. Someone who does well studying a subject in class doesn’t necessarily have the ability to solve real-world problems. Take my aunt who attended business school, for example. Even though she spent three years studying the ins and outs of business theory, she was completely overwhelmed when it came time to start her own business. In the end, she turned to a friend with real-world experience for help. This person never went to business school, but because they had been through the trials of running a start-up several times, they could give her practical advice. Field trips bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, so they can definitely add something to a child’s education.Granted, some types of information are better absorbed inside a classroom. Mathematics, for example, doesn’t benefit so much from out-of-classroom learning. However, this does not mean that field trips are not important for those studying subjects like mathematics. In these cases, it may be especially important to take field trips so that students can connect their theoretical knowledge to real things. Learning about fractals, for instance, students can take a trip to see some fractals in nature, like those found in certain plants and animals. Learning about Fibonacci numbers, students can go to the beach to collect shells that follow the sequence to form logarithmic spirals.Field trips should never compose the bulk of schooling. However, they can supplement classroom learning by making education fun, impactful, and relevant. Because of this, they are still an essential part of any child’s education. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement. Movies and television have more negative effects than positive effects on the way young people behave. Movies and television are often accused of affecting young people adversely. Thus some people conclude that the negative effects of entertainment media far outweigh the benefits. I disagree.Admittedly, entertainment media has had certain negative effects on children. Increasing scenes of violence and pornography have caused imitation amongteenagers. Since teenagers are particularly impressionable at that age, anything they are exposed to could seriously impacts their perception of reality. According to a recent survey conducted by the Chinese Adolescent Delinquency Association, after polling hundreds of young criminals aged 12 to18, most respondents claimed that they copied violent behavior learned from television shows or movies. Thus, to some extent, TV and movies are responsible for the problematic behavior of some teenagers. However, television and movies also benefit children. For one thing, educational TV programs and documentaries are instrumental in teaching children in an interesting way. Unlike textbooks and ordinary class activities, movies provide can teach children about subjects in different and more interactive ways. Take my sister for example. She is majoring in zoology. According to her, watching the Discovery Channel as a little girl first made her interested in nature and animals. The Discovery Channel’s vivid pictures and lively footage helped her gain more knowledge about a variety of rare species and learn to appreciate the beauty of wildlife. Without the aid of television, the tedious description from textbooks would have hardly aroused any interest in my sister when she was young. In addition, movies and television shows provide young people with a temporary escape from their stressful lives, full of studying. Entertainment movies can inspire creative thinking in children and teach them important values in an interesting way. By seeing flying cars in the Matrix, children can think more about future innovations in technology. Seeing martial arts in Kung Fu Panda has even made children more interested in the traditional art and history of China. From the Harry Potter series, children learn the importance of courage and friendship. All in all, despite a few isolated cases of negative influence, I believe that the overall impact of television and movies is positive. Nowadays, merchants tend to strive for remaining in existence by all means due to the extensive petition and burdensome pressures. However, I am always amazed when I hear that it is necessary for businessman to do anything possible to make a profit. It may be as highly laudable and exemplary a thing as it is held to be by those who are addicted to money.Apparently, I strongly object to it due to various factors that weigh heavily against the notion. The foremost reason is that merchants would be rewarded by nothing but distrust and even hatred from the customers if they hardly care about anything but money. It is widely known that nothing can be pared with the good reputation of a pany, which attracts more upright and loyal customers. Suppose we arefacing the dilemma of which brand of shampoo to purchase. It is of no surprise if you decide to take the one produced by P&G or other reputable large panies. As a result, what assures the buyers most is the credit of the service suppliers?Another subtle explanation for my point of view rests onthe fact that various appalling results would in some cases, be caused by the immoral and even illegal businesses. It is decent to make profits and receive the repayment ofdiligent work and continuous efforts. Nevertheless, producing unqualified or even deleterious modities, which possibly lead to detriments of people's health or security, is never the sensible method to operate a pany. What impressed me most is the tragedy happened several monthsago in some part of China. Hundreds of infants died because of the nonnutritive milk powders produced by some merchantmen without ethics. Therefore, it is never toorigid to denounce the immoral and irresponsible behavior. The third point I would like to mention is that the merchants themselves would not be reassured to enjoy the property acquired in improper ways.In most cases, it is the essential satisfaction ofbenefiting the public, rather than the material items, which inspires people profoundly. What a pleasant thing it would be to receive repayment of your diligent work andcontinuous efforts! On the contrary, few people would go into rapture even if they possess a mass of wealth earned through indecent ways. Thus, only by obeying mercial disciplines could a businessman obtain supreme suess and maximum pleasure.Taking into all the reasons above into aount, it is barely too arbitrary to conclude that only by descent and good Intentioned business activities could a pany achieve respectable and decent suess托福考试作文题目: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better for children to choose jobs that are similar to their parents’jobs than to choose jobs that are very different from their parents’ jobs.

审题关键词Children/parents, jobs, similar/different论证分析正:Finding a different job is beneficial to a person’s sustained academic development.正:Equally exciting is the increased professional possibilities for the family.正:Socially, the same job as mom and dad’s will only bring about the same social circle, just as different ages.TPO26独立写作范文:When choosing a life career, the advice of a parent can be quite decisive. Many parents encourage their children to live the life they themselves have only dreamed of, and try a very different job from their own. Nevertheless, in most cases, I believe it would be more beneficial for the child, the parent and the society alike if children followed in the footsteps of their parents when choosing a job.One of the most obvious reasons is that it paves a more convenient way to success for the children. Children who share similar occupations with their parents can at least inherit the experiences of the parent, which would save them much time and energy along the way. The parents, who have already had decades of trial and failure in the field, would have a clear idea of what kind of knowledge and quality is required for the job. In that case, they would be able to better prepare the children for the job, and give them helpfulsuggestions along their career development. Moreover, experience is not the only thing children can inherit from their parents. A businessman can provide his sona shortcut to success by leaving him an already well-run company, and apolitician can leave his children the connections they would need in order to win sufficient support.Another thing is that a similar career is likely to strengthen theparent-child bond. In such a fast-paced modernized world, parents often complain that they are losing their child to busy schedules and a digital social world they feel distant from. But generation gaps are easily bridged when parents can often exchange career ideas with their children. However different thelifestyles of two generations may be, the questions they have to face in a similar job can always be a good topic of conversation. Personally, I feel closest to my grandfather when he shares with me his frustrations and wisdoms ofreporting for a national newspaper before he retired, because I may come across similar challenges in my pursuit of a degree in journalism. He is the first person I turn to whenever I need professional guidance, and I feel like I can always trust him and count on him. It should work the same for mostparent-and-child relationships. As a career mentor, a parent can bond with the child in more profound ways.Last but not least, to choose a similar job as the parent is actually aconservation of social resources. As the parent can act as a career mentor for the child, the time and energy spent preparing the novice outside the home can be spared. People would go into the workforce with a rather comprehensive idea of what to expect, and start putting their knowledge and talent into rightful use as soon as possible.Given the three reasons I just illustrated, it can be a smart decision if children choose similar jobs as their parents. It would benefit their personal success, their family relationships, as well as the efficacy of the society.。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:All scientific discoveries should be shared to all scientists around the world; Governments and businesses should not keep any scientific discoveries secret.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.范文1:Argument 1 (for)Scientific discoveries should be the property of the world, available to all scientists. Governments and businesses should not keep discoveries secret because it impedes scientific progress and inhibits the development of technologies that can improve the lives of others.First, sharing discoveries saves time and energy because scientists do not have to repeat the same experiments. Scientists can make faster progress and use fewer resources because they can learn what has already been done and expand on the existing research rather than duplicating the same results. If governments and businesses are secretive, then many companies will have to do the same groundwork before they can move on to the next step. For example, by sharing the patterns for making the Mars Curiosity rover, NASA has enabled other scientists to improve on the design and make rovers that will endure even more rigorous conditions than those encountered by Curiosity.Second, sharing discoveries allows scientists to confirm data and establish whether theories are on target. One theory mayhave multiple variations that need tested before it can be established as true or not. For example, an experimental drug must undergo rigorous testing before it is approved. If several scientists in different areas are pursuing the same line of research, they can compare results obtained under different conditions. The example drug might prove effective only in certain parameters based on things such as age or weight. This difference might not show up in one of the trials but might be found in another. Combining the research would give scientists a better idea of the limitations of their product. Finally, sharing discoveries could potentially save thousands of lives and solve some of the difficult health and environmental problems that plague the world today. By looking at the progress of others, a scientist might find the key needed to create a new vaccine, develop an inexpensive building material, create an alternate energy source, or other such invention that could make the world a better place to live in. In isolation, a scientist may not have the information he or she needs, but referring to the work of others, can tackle large problems such as hunger, disease, and climate change.Sharing scientific discoveries is essential because it facilitates new discoveries. Scientists can save time and resources, confirm results, and help others if they are willing to share rather than keep their data secret.

Young people should try different job before they decide which job or career they will do in the long term.)

There are as many jobs for young people as there arefor experienced professionals. Some argue that it is unworthy of somebody's time to do different jobs before seriously setting out on a career. But some say that though it may take some time, its advantages outweigh thedisadvantages if you we think deeply. I am in favor of the latter, because we are too immature to make life-defining decisions unless we are given a long time to take every factor into consideration.First of all, taking different job positions allows us to personally see every shade of the gray. For example, in a pany, to truly understand how the system works, we have to understand markeing, sales, aounting, supply chain, and after-sale services. Trying different roles allows a young person to deeply and sophisticatedly prehend what it takes to sueed in career.Second, maturity is key to career suess in today's petitive job hunting environment. Maturity means letting down one's ego, setting aside one's prejudices, and working and achieving together with others in spite of differences. Research has shown that new college graduates do not achieve much of anything not because of inpetency, but to a great extent, of immaturity, which is a phase which passes through the learning process of working through the challenges of different jobs. In this, it is fair for us to say that to be best prepared for a long-term career, try multiple jobs.Though we do not deny that staying in one job will bring about, along with a stable suppy of cash, a feeling of certainty. This superiority, however, is overshadowed byits drawbacks. Staying in one job long-time kills one's enthusiasm. By dealing with the same problems, coping with the same difficulties, and speaking with the same people, every young person's enthusiasm, which is extremely important to young people, is dampened. What's more, not having enough experience makes young people's scope limited, blinkered, and often narrow.Putting all factors above into consideration, Iconclude that try diverse jobs before one decides which career he/ she pursues in the long run is a plausible act.。

The student protest against the Vietnam War in the ‘60s and ‘70s was a particularly strong and vocal movement. However this movement only focused on ending the war in Vietnam. I think student political movements today are much more varied and sophisticated. Students not only address the issues of the War in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also more complex issues such as health care and the financial crisis. We are not just concerned about one facet of politics, but all facets of politics.Even though students have always been actively involved in politics, students today are more informed and concerned about politics than any previous generation of students. We understand the global impact of American policies and we understand that what we do in light of the policies makes a difference. The way a person is dressed in is a good indication of his/her personality.

However, to learn about something more complex, its always best to have a teacher. Teachers bring with them varied and useful backgrounds. you one way of learning something. Plus theyre only as helpful as your ability to understand them. A good teacher can adapt her teaching to your needs. Teachers help you focus on what youre learning. If youre learning something by yourself, its easy to become distracted and go on to other activities. Teachers keep your attention on the subject. They also approach a subject logically, taking it one step at a time. On your own, its tempting to skip parts of the learning process you think you dont need. That can hinder your ability to really understand the subject. Learning a subject on your own is a very narrow way of learning. You can only use the information you get from the textbook. With a teacher, you get the information in the written materials as well as the teachers own knowledge of the topic. Teachers can also provide extra materials to broaden the scope of what youre learning. Theres nothing wrong with studying on your own, and a learner can always benefit from some quiet study. Is it better to enjoy your money when you earn it or is it better to save your money for some time in the future? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. When faced with the decision of saving your money for some time in the future or enjoying your money when you earn it, quite a few would claim to enjoy their money, but others, in contrast, deem to save their money as the premier choice and that is also my point. This quite different view is based on the every possible reason. Fore most reason for saving the money for future use is when you need a lot of money to deal with some emergent things that happen to you, you should not worry about the fund or lend some money everywhere at that time. For example, two years ago, I spend my summer holiday in a famous scenery pot, after a wonderful trip of the first day, I lost my wallet unconsciously, then I took out some money in the bank to finish the trip. If you did not have some deposit, you can imagine how embarrassed you are.

Second, I have finished my college study, and I am going to go abroad to get a master degree to enhance the ability to face the challenge in the society. Plenty of money is very important to me, so I have to save all the money that I economized for future use. Third, the economy condition of my family is not so good that I decide to earn enough money to buy a big house for my deeply loving parents.
