改习语意思是:喉结,咽喉。

此语出自《圣经》。

根据《旧约•创世纪》第二章和第三章,上帝创造了人类始祖亚当和夏娃之后,让他们住在伊甸园里。

夏娃受了魔鬼的诱惑,吃了善恶树上的果实,又让亚当也吃了,于是两人违背了上帝的禁令。

有人根据此典故想像亚当在吃禁果时,有一块果肉哽于喉头前部,所以男人的喉结比女人的喉结明显,突出。

因此喉结在英语中被早期的解剖学家称为“Adam's apple〞.此语中的 apple 并非仅指苹果,许多果子都可以被称为apple.
