Unit 4 Cyberspace李仕才一、阅读理解AChinese New Year is approaching and preparations are underway around the world. Here are some Chinatowns for those outside of China wishing to mark the day.LondonAlthough it may not be as large or as long-built as others, having only become a center for the Chinese community during the 1950s, London’s Chinatown is a perfectly formed little firework that knows how to see in the year with a bang. Decorated with red lanterns (灯笼), previous years have seen shows with acrobatics (杂技), martial arts (武术), dance and opera nearby.San FranciscoSan Francisco’s Chinatown is perhaps the most famous in the United States. The city was the main entry-point for Chinese who had crossed the Pacific to the USA during the early 19th century. Between the Grant Avenue and the Stockton Street, this historic area is a local treasure, attracting more visitors per year than the Golden Gate Bridge.BangkokWith an about 100-year-old history, the Thai capital’s Chinatown contains complex streets offe ring all kinds of tasty treats, clothes, toys and antiques. Sunday market days are such a good time to get the full atmosphere of the neighborhood. The area is also known for its gold dealers, whose shops line the road. MauritiusFound in Port Louis, this Mauritian Chinatown shows the island nation’s rich multicultural diversity. Established in the early years of the 20th century by settlers from China, its tiny shops and restaurants serve locals and visitors. During the Chinese Spring Festival, the most exciting sight is the Dragon Dances on Rue Royale when Chinese musicians and dancers perform the traditional Lion dances through the streets.1. Unit 4 Cyberspace李仕才一、阅读理解。

“How do you account_for your remarkable achievements in life?”Queen Victoria of the UK asked Helen Keller.“How do you explain the fact that even though you were both blind and deaf, you were able to achieve so much?”Ms.Keller's answer is a tribute(致敬)to her kind teacher.“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”According to American speaker Zig Ziglar,Anne Sullivan was no stranger to hardship. She was almost sightless and was,at one time, diagnosed ashopelessly“insane” by her caregivers. She was locked in the basement of a mental institution.Occasionally,Anne would violently attack anyone who came near. Most of the time she generally ignored everyone in her presence. An elderly nurse believed there was hope, however, and she made it her work to show love to the child.Every day she visited Anne, and she left cookies for her and spoke words of love and encouragement. She believed Anne could recover,if only she were shown love.Eventually, doctors noticed the change in the girl.Where they once witnessed anger and hate, they now noted gentleness and love. They moved her upstairs where she continued to improve. Then the day finally came when this seemingly “hopeless”child was released.Anne Sullivan grew into a young woman with a desire to help others as she, herself, was helped by the kind nurse. It was she who saw the great potential in Helen Keller. She loved her, disciplined(管教)her, played with her, pushed her and worked with her until the flickering candle that was her life became a beacon(灯塔)of light to the world.Anne Sullivan worked wonders in Helen's life;but it was a loving nurse who first believed in little Anne and lovingly transformed an uncommunicative child into a kind teacher.“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”But if it had not been for a kind and dedicated nurse, the name of Anne Sullivan would have remained unknown.1.What does the underlined part“account for”in Paragraph 1 probabl y mean?A.show B.proveC.explain D.present2.What do we know from the third paragraph?A.Anne Sullivan had very normal behavior.B.Anne Sullivan was ignored by everyone.C.Anne Sullivan was kept away from her parents.D.Anne Sullivan was believed to have a mental problem.3.What would be the best title for the text?A.The Power of LoveB.Making a DifferenceC.A Good TeacherD.Remarkable Achievements【解题导语】本文主要介绍了一个有奉献精神的护士用自己的爱挽救了海伦·凯勒的老师Anne Sullivan,而她又成就了伟大的海伦·凯勒的故事。

因为失误而发错电子邮件的补救措施。 掌握处理电子邮件意
外情况的具体方法。

Suppose you’re in a rush, feeling tired, not paying attention to your screen, and you send an
email that could get you in trouble.
Realisation will probably set in seconds after you’ve clicked “send”.You freeze in horror and
burn with shame.
What to do?Here are four common email accidents, and how to recover.
Clicking “send” too soon
Don’t waste your time trying to find out if the receiver has read it yet.Write another email as
swiftly as you can and send it with a brief title explaining that this is the correct version and the
previous version should be ignored.
Writing the wrong name
The sooner you notice, the better.Respond quickly and briefly, apologising for your mistake.Keep
the tone measured:don’t handle it too lightly,as people can be offended, especially if your error
suggests a misunderstanding of their culture (i.e.incorrect ordering of Chinese names).
Clicking “reply all” unintentionally
You accidentally reveal(透露) to the entire company what menu choices you would prefer at the staff
Christmas dinner,or what holiday you’d like to take.In this instance, the best solution is to send
a quick,light-hearted apology to explain your awkwardness. But it can quickly rise to something worse,
when everyone starts hitting “reply all” to join in a long and unpleasant conversation. In this
instance, step away from your keyboard to allow everyone to calm down.
Sending an offensive message to its subject
The most awkward email mistake is usually committed in anger. You write an unkind message about
someone, intending to send it to a friend, but accidentally send it to the person you’re discussing. In
that case, ask to speak in person as soon as possible and say sorry.Explain your frustrations calmly
and sensibly—see it as an opportunity to clear up any difficulties you may have with this person.
