What if Mike gets so zoned in on engineering that he's turned off from his secret knack for politics and world leadership? Why limit ourselves before we've even started exploring?Instead of stressing over my future job, I'd rather spend my elementary days just being a kid - running around at recess, doing fun extracurriculars, and learning as much as I can about all the amazing subjects this world has to offer. That way, when I'm finally a teenager or in college, I'll have a way better understanding of my true passions, skills, and what truly motivates me. Then I can start getting serious about career planning without regretting the path I picked too early on.Does that mean we shouldn't do ANY career prep as kids? Of course not! It's great to start building a skill foundation,developing core interests, and getting exposed to different professional possibilities. But there's no need to go overboard and sharply narrow our focus while we're still justelementary-aged. Last month, a doctor visited and taught us about the human body and what it's like to work in a hospital. A few weeks ago, a carpenter came and showed us ow to use hammers, saws, and other tools. Getting these little glimpses into different jobs is way more useful than just being asked point-blank "What do you want to be?"By learning about diverse careers, I can start narrowing down what kinds of things I might like or don't like. For example, after the carpenter visit, I realized that I probably wouldn't enjoy a job where you have to work with lots of loud power tools all day. It seems kind of dangerous and not really my thing. But the doctor career actually seems pretty cool - I like the idea of helping people and studying how the body works.
