1 Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when he starts hiscareer. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in the big cities. To them, staying in big cities means more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation. But some other graduates want to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management’s attention and may win promotion earlier. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks. In conclusion, making a career plan depends on one’s value in life and work. No matter which choice one choose, hopefully everyone will have a bright future. 2 Talking about career,Ive been planning since my first year in the university. I always knew that I wanted to apply for english-related jobs.My dream career is an english interpreter. And I want to be an english teacher after I quit the interpreting job.I dont just want to be confined by one job.Changing my career once or twice,I can acquire different experience and enrich my life.As part of my career planning I made a strict schedule for myself to keep to.In my first year in university,I extended my vocabulary andlearned grammar very hard.I knew that I should have a thorough grounding in english if I wanted to use it fluently in the future, especially if I wanted to translate freely. In grade two,I began to apply for some part-time interpreting jobs.I knew that I should gain enough work experience,so as to win in the exceedingly competitive job market. Moreover,I got to know more foreigners, who would help me a lot with my future job.Now In grade three,I begin to send my CV to foreign-owned companies for internship.I clearly know that it is too late if I send CV to apply for jobs when graduation is close-at-hand.In grade four,if the company where I have the internship is content with me,I would stay there after graduating from the university. If not,I would send CVs to other companies. After earning enough money and acquiring enough experience,I would change my career into an english teacher.Being a teacher I would have more spare time to be at my disposal. With my good mastering of english I think I am qualified for an english teacher. As for the teaching skills,I would certainly attend some good teachers classes to learn from them.I would also communicate with the students to get to know what they are thinking and what they really need.During the years as a teacher,I would teach the students my own way of english learning, show the outside world to them, and introduce new ideas to them,so as to broaden their horizons.

In recent years, universities and colleges among our country increasingly attach great importance to Career Planning Education for college students. From my perspective, there are several causes of the phenomenon.Firstly, being a college student, learning courses and planning for future are equally important since a large number of graduated students don't knowhow to choose their career and blind selecting may mislead their lives.Besides, as the famous saying goes"Good beginning is half done".As a consequence ,to know how to choose career is particularly vital to start a successful life.As for how to plan career,I think the most important thing is to determine our direction. And to know ourselves well is also necessary. Only by knowing what we can achieve can we make it. Nowadays, the number of students is growing rapidly, so a lot of colleges have paid more attention to college students' careerplanning. It seems that this phenomenon is becoming a trend. With the development of society, more and more teenagers have opportunities to be educated. It is good for our society. However, a negative problem is coming with this phenomenon. This phenomenon brings more and more pressure on positions. The number of students who cannot find jobs is growingconstantly. So this trend follows a logical of thought, and it may do benefit college students. As far as I am concerned, we should study our majority well and after this we can try our best to expand our horizons. For example, we can learn some social skills or take in lessons from our failure. Only we make a college student's career planning and spare no efforts to make it true, can we succeed. An online courseA friend of mine has been taking an online career planning course these days. He told me the other day he has learned a lot from it. He recommended me to subscribe to it. What do you say?I think it is good if we know enough about career planning. We will make wiser choices. What else did he tell you about it?Well, just something in general, like several key steps in planning career and how to set specific and tenable goals.Sounds practical! To be honest, sometimes I feel puzzled about my future career. I am not sure if this job suits me the best though I work very hard on it and enjoy being a hard worker. I have always wanted to try something else and learn some new skills.Making a decision to start over is not an easy thing to do. It seems that you need this course more than I do. I love my current job. If I take this course, I hope to learn some tricks to get myself more organized at work. If they can givesuggestions about how to boost work relationships, that will be great. I need these to improve my current work performance.Ok, then we can sign up for it together. Write down your plansHow long have you been in this company?I came two years ago after I graduated from college. This is my first job.You must have found much difference between working in company and studying in college.Of course! Everyday, there is a deadline to meet. Bosses watching and testing me all the time, not liking in college, handed in paper months later and tested on schedule. It is so busy. But anyway, Ihave trying my best to be a good employee.Well, you’ve adapted yourself very well. Everyone in our office thinks you’ve made a great progress in the past two years. What is your secret? It is so encouraging to hear this remark. The secret is to make plans. Write down your goals, short-term and long-term and make detail plans for a week or a month. Then just work hard."五年内您想做到什么职位?",这是一个富有挑战性的问题。
英语口语--职业规划
My career planningWhen I got us this topic, I have no idea about a more pretty title, so I just use this one. Maybe the simplest one is the best one. But first of all, I'd like to take this opportunity to give my genuine appreciation to Mr Duan(段均),Thanks for your hard work in the whole semester, for forgiving us late for class. Now we have been at end of the first semester. So it’s time for me to have a career plan.Firstly, I must take the best use of my rest time in the university. As physics major, except for leaning quantum mechanics and some other courses.I must spend much more time improving my English .Course you know,CET-6 is a big thing for us all. Besides the major, I should try to read more books in other areas, such as the socialism, economy, and so on. And I think I should improve my interests deeply, such as playing basketball, running, Chinese writing, and so on. Just as an old saying goes that one’s interests is his best teacher. college is a good time for one to develop it, for I have a lot of spare time. My plan is to make my interests into my ability.Secondly, here comes the question of what I should do after the graduation. When I was young, my dream is to go to high school, and when I was in my high school, my dream is to go to the best college. But now it hasn`t became true. So it means that I will continue to pursue it. Maybe the The final result is still failure. If I lose in the end, then I will go to work. Then I will choose to be a teacher in a high school ,maybe just in my hometown. The above is my career plan. It will take a long time to fulfill it, or maybe one day I will have a new plan. No matter what it will become, I will always comply with my mind, because I believe any conclusion that I made is the result of a long time’s thinking. In conclusion, what is the most important thing. Live everyday like it`s your last day.。

Cat: Occupational therapists work with people who have
had accidents or disabilities, help them regain function and
so that they can be independent in the activities that they
enjoy doing, so the occupation and occupational therapies,
the activities people enjoy doing every day and it looks into,
instead of physiotherapy works with just the muscles and
building muscles, so they just do repetitions, but
occupational therapy incorporates things that people actually
enjoy doing into the activities for therapy, if that makes
sense. It's kind of broad but yeah!

people, for instances if a child has had an accident their
main occupation is play so, you want to get them back into as
much play as they can, and get them as strong as you can, so
you can do that through play, but an adult you want to try
and get them back into, say if they enjoy sewing or riding or
surfing or those kinds of activities, as the O. T. you try to
incorporate that into the therapy that you do with them, as
much as you can. It depends on their injury.

Nicola: OK, so where are you working now as an O. T.?
Cat: Right now, I'm working in hospital at Lismore, and
it's more of an acute care setting so people who have had
major injuries or accidents and it's pretty much just helping
them move on to the next step, either going home or going to
another hospital and organizing the things that they need to
be able to get back to the activities of daily living. (Wow)
It's kind of complicated, but that's the basics of it, but
it's a little bit more than that.

Nicola: That sounds pretty challenging.
Cat: Yeah, it's good.
Nicola: OK, so thanks for talking to us and all the best
in your work.
