Make full preparations for each class and follow my instructions absolutely. You will work much harder than you've ever worked in any class before. And if one of these rules is broken, we will not go to the contest. M I was certain they would fail to keep this contract, and no one would be embarrassed. But the kids remained focused, following the rules strictly. Each morning witnessed their diligence: working on sight-reading, learning musical terms, rehearsing, etc. Their progress was so remarkable that even I began believing in their dream. When the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready and confident to take on the world! Their eyes, however, opened wide when the Madison choir marched in seventy-five members strong. My kids'jaws dropped when 125 students from King School arrived. Then came the turn for my choir. Apparently, my kids showed sign of tension with their face turning pale. “Don't be afraid. It is not the size of the choir but the quality of the performance that matters. I tried to calm them down. Hearing this, they regained confidence and mounted on the stage holding their head high.“Smile!” 1 then mouthed / signaled. After a while, sweet-sounding voice flowed slowly in the hall, so pure, melodious and harmonious, even better than they had rehearsed. Everyone was immersed in the beautiful melody. The performance ended followed by thunderous applause and cheers. At that moment, I knew my kids made it. After all the choirs had performed, we waited in our assigned room for the results. Some kids were so anxious that they sat on pins and needles. I reassured them: whether we would win or not was of little importance as long as we enjoyed the process. Time ticking, eventually there came the news that we got the highest marks of all. On hearing that, all kids burst out scream and cheered up. With warm tears wetting my cheeks, 1 stood motionlessly, full of pride for my kids. It was a blessing that I was surrounded by kids who had a dream, who refused to give up, who taught me never to doubt the possibility of success , and who were truly miracle workers.
