1. Which is more important for a college student: specialized

knowledge or a wide range of learning?

正1 :I think specialized knowledge is more important than a wide range of

knowledge .Specialized knowledge can help college students be more professional in their major .It can help us get high score in the college and the high score is a great advantage . 反1 :I don’t think so. In my opinion, specialized knowledge is important ,but the more important is a wide range of learning .We must broaden our horizons through learning widely so that we can keep up with times.

正2:But learning too widely would make us be satisfied with a smattering of knowledge. However ,the company requires their staffs need to have deep specialized knowledge, so we can find a better job in the future if we learn our specialized knowledge well.

反2: Although the company need specialized knowledge , the more important is the abilities of every side. A person who learn widely can apply different kinds of knowledge to solve problems .At the same time he have more common topics with others so that he can communicate better with different people.

正1:However, students with specialized knowledge are easier to find out the essence of a problem, and improve their practice ability. When we face challenges in our work ,we can’t get it over and finish the work easily if we don’t have enough deep specialized knowledge.

反1:Now the society need the comprehensive development of talent. If we only have a lot deep specialized knowledge ,we can’t survive in t he society. A wide range of learning contributes to student’s adaptation to the complex society. So I think we must learn widely to adjust to the social changes .

正2:No,I don’t think so. Students who have specialized knowledge can carry on a deeper research in their study field, which makes them more likely to succeed. Great success depends on specialized knowledge finally. So we should put the specialized knowledge at first in the college.

2. Does the Internet do more harm than good to students?

正1: In my opinion, the Internet does more good than harm to students. Nowadays it’s the time of information and Internet. So students should learn to use Internet and its advantages to be benefited. The Internet includes a lot of information and knowledge. For students, the Internet is like a library in their house and it is available 24 hours a day. They will go into a gallery full of information and get them quickly. It is very helpful and convenience.

反1: I disagree with you. I think the Internet do harm than good to students. Due to lack of supervision on internet, a lot of unhealthy information appears on internet, such as violence or bloody information. Students can’t make a distinction completely between

those messages. They would be influenced by those information so that their characters and their life may be affected in bad aspect.

正2: No, I don’t think so. The amount of unhealthy information is far less than the healthy information on the internet. And the good of healthy information is far more than the harm of the unhealthy for most students. For example, the Internet gives students a

large amount of learning material that is accessible online anytime. It helps students with study such as online-learning and online research. And with a computer

interconnected with Internet, students can know the different culture of other countries.

The internet keeps they touch to the world.

反2: But the online-learning would make some students not go to class at time even not go to school and learn from teachers. Because they know they can learn the knowledge on the Internet at any time. In addition, the internet has too much information and it would let students be lazy and cheat. When teacher give students homework, they would not think and do homework by themselves .They just go to the web and find the answers and copy it finally. So the internet has more harm.

反1: The internet is developing and there is more and more potential danger. There are many strangers to cheat students’ money or emotion even damage their life. The internet doesn’t have enough action to protect them.

正2: Students would be careful because of parents and teachers’ care and enjoin. It’s unnecessary to worry too much about cheaters and think that internet is unsafe and harm. The Internet also play a new way of relaxing and helping they kill boring time. They can use internet to listen music, watch TV, read fiction, play games and chat with friends. Internet is not only good for study, but also makes students’ life be colorful. In a word, the advantage of the internet is more than the disadvantage to students.

反2: However, Online gaming and TV means many college students are stopped from studying. They are addicted in it and they spend enormous time on internet even without sleeping for several days. Some of them lose the chance to go to the school they want to. In short, the internet does harm than good to students.

3. Should examinations be replaced with other forms of assessment?

正1: I think examinations should be replaced by other forms of assessment. Excellent scores cannot represent your practice level. It is hard to use rather than to say. We can’t use scores to judge everything. It can’t say you are a bad student if you get a low score.

反1: No, I don’t think so. To many people, excellent scores is a kind of motive power of study. If there isn’t examination, many students don’t want to study in peacetime. Examination

is a good way to find students’ limits and gives them a lot of confidence if they succeed

正2: But in my opinion, final exams which could be a decisive matter for students’ future can definitely bring them a considerable stress. Pressure can lead many bright students to

under-perform, which can change their life completely. So they are bound to suffer a lot from stress brought by exams.

反2: However, college students should have a certain psychological quality. Exams give a good opportunity to check the knowledge quickly. Student can have a clear

self-definition on how quick they are able to study and how well they handle the knowledge. It’s just a assessment that can help students learn more about themselves.

正1: Though examinations can test the achievement of study in a degree, there is a scope in the examinations. When someone passed the examination, it maybe can prove that he is good at that scope but not the whole field. Examination can’t measure the genera l ability of a student.

反1: In fact, exams are relatively fair in terms of assessment, especially when it’s in form of subjective questions. What’s more, students can supervise themselves and become independent in dealing with unknown situations. Y ou can’t get a high score if you don’t learn the knowledge.

You spend your time and effort revising lots of information just so that you can remember it for the test. However, after the test, you can't remember a thing.

Examination is a good way to test how well a student understood a subject. So examination shouldn’t be replaced by other forms of assessment.

4. 正方：from our perspective, it is necessary for all college students to speak English.

反方：In our view,we think that it is not necessary for all college students to speak English.

正1: As is known to all, English is used all over the world. It is the most widely used language in the world. If we cannot speak English, how can we communicate with people from other countries? So I think it is necessary for us to speak English .

反1:We dont deny English is important for people nowadays,but it is very hard for Chinses student to speak only English in their daily life because of the language gap,our main language is chinese and we usually choose to speak chinese.So it is a unrealistic policy.

正2：Yeah,your idea is considerable.However, we know that every thing is difficult before it is easy, but if we have much confidence and we practise it in our daily life,I believe that we will study it well.

反2：but if we don’t speak English well,we will be failed? Abviously, the answer is

not.English just stand for a tool to be more convenience in works,but in China’s work environment ,it just OK to conmunicate in Chinese.

正1:As the saying goes: Practice makes perfect. Yeah,practice speaking English will makes your life perfect. Owe another skill can be more useful than people don’t owe it.

反1：accoding to your opinion, if we dont speaking English ,we can not stand out in any parts? As we all know, english is just a language skill not the whole world of you.we can learn more skills not only english,and we could also win in lives.

正2：As the leaders of modernization era ,we college students should have a fresh look at the future ,speaking English has been essential for us to win in various competitions .

反2：speaking english are not represent your english is well enough to take part in all the competitions. No pain ,no gain. I generally believe that if we insist on no matter what we just fond of ,not only speaking english, we can make a great difference in our lives.

正1：In Chinese tradition,man is considered as the head of a family.They must take the responsibility of making needed income for the whole family. Males normally have to bear financial pressures.

反1：but male don’t know that their wife has to struggle in markets to choose cheap and fine goods and bargain with shopkeeper, what’s more,Women care about their whole families’ especilly their husbands’ food , clothing, shelter, and transpotation,so the female has more pressure.

正2：as to job, male suffers a lot. Competition gets fiercer, especially for male. Male must be capable enough to get the appreciation from their boss. It is harder than female.

反2：but because of Sexual descrinmination.Females are less welcome in job hunting because they one day will give birth to a child and take months off.It is not a strange thing that females do as much as males and get less paid . They have to bear the prejudices from males.

正1：it’s not a excuse.Nowadays there still are many women holding some important posts in companies.They have the ability to compete with men.Sometimes they even instigate male staff to do something.So your opinion is untenable.

反1：Like you said,women not only need to care family,but also need to compete with men.If they don’t work,they may be looked down upon.Only the ability they have do they live freely and happily.

正2:The pressure is addes by women themselves .Their husband can support the whole family,and don’t want their wives to live hardly.But some women insist to working and say that is keeping pace with the times.

反2：But if women don’t work,they worry about that their husband maybe dislike them and go out to find mistress one day.At that time,they have no maney and beauty，they will suffer a lot than

men.

6 Is it necessary to raise retirement age?

正1：Yes. The retirement age extension is a necessary preparation for future labor shortages. It would also relieve government from the pressure of a pension fund deficit.According what I see around me, many retired people have nothing to do ,walking in a path, playing

cards ,something else in their heart.

反1：In the opinion of mine, our country is stepping into Aging society, many years later , not enough young people competent for the need of our society.The cost of our educstion is becoming more and more expensive ,the moment we graduate from colledge,we can do nothing because lack of practical knowledge.

正2：I think the two are not in conflict.Raise the mandatory retirement age is good to the old people also the young people. Many old people are as strong as having a job, the young people are kind tired to support them.so above all, I think that to raise the mandatory retirement age is necessary.

反2：I don’t think so. Raising the retirement age, on certain level necessarily affects the job, make whole society obtain employment to some extent appears " upside down " situation.And some ashamed of "neet" young people, may rush into danger, society may therefore increase the instability factors.

正1：But if the man retirement too early,you well found that the man is lonely and have no intereing about life.Due to our technology,people live longer,someone take many years to learn skill,and when they are qualified to their job,they should not be retired,they are still passion then.
