For many old persons, just walking across a room can consume them of all their energy for the day. In hot weather, they may not even make them out of bed. Learning to conserve energy is not a complicated process, yet it can make a world of difference.

Learning to perform tasks efficiently and to minimize energy expense requires mental organization. Before an elderly person gets up and does something, she needs to stop and think about what else she can do at the same time.

For example, getting dressed in the morning could require several trips to the closet. She should stop and think about all the things she needs to gather from the closet. She should gather them all at once instead of getting clothes out, putting them on, then going and getting a belt and looking for shoes. Going in and out of the closet several times requires a lot of activities and energy: gathering all of the items at one time and dressing in order can take a few simpler steps.

Grooming (梳洗) can be scattered by first brushing her teeth, then getting dressed, then going back to the bathroom and washing her face and combing her hair. They should perform all tasks in one location and then move on to the next area and tasks. Make sure they take a break and rest

between tasks. When cooking, they should gather supplies at one time, perform the work, and then put away what is no longer needed. They should cook the food, sit down to eat, and then clear up.

There are many other aspects of energy conversation, including breathing techniques and rest and relaxation tips. Rearranging space such as kitchen-chained contents and household furniture can be helpful in making energy conversation work more efficiently.

A. To show how hard an elderly person works.

B. To prove mental organization is effective.

D. To prove we are into an aged society now.

3.When an elderly person is doing her grooming, she should ________.

Passage 2

By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat? A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it's not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body.

Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw(生的) vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene, the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,”says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohio State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”

A number decide how the vegetables do good to people's health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some

nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways. Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook.

What cooked with the vegetables can also be important? When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.

5.The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.

A. people should eat more vegetables

B. the way people eat vegetables is important

C. eating vegetables is good for us

D. how much vegetables one should eat

6.The people who eat the raw vegetables for a long time will ________.

A. have the eyes problems

B. have heart disease

C. be in need of lycopene

D. hate eating tomatoes

7.The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________.

A. the place where the vegetables are grown

B. the way how the vegetables are stored

C. the way how the vegetables are prepared

D. the price at which the vegetable are sold

8.From the last paragraph, we can know ________.

A. it's better to cook vegetables with the fat

B. the more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat

C. it's better to cook the vegetables without salt

D. the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables

Passage 3

As is well known, the British love to wait in line, but a new research (调查) shows that the British are only about average (平均数) at waiting politely in a queue. The French are the best. It's the Germans who don't have a good habit of standing in line. They can't stand to wait for anything. They begin to shout loudly and noisily if the line doesn't seem to be moving fast enough. Sadly it never moves fast enough for them. The experts studied 940 people across Europe. They watched secretly as they waited in line—to get tickets, to order fast food and to wait for the bus. They found people who are good at forming(排成) queues feel that they move along faster. For example, in Britain, the average waiting in a queue needs about three and a half minutes. In Germany or Sweden people hate waiting in line. In fact, people spend double the time as the British in queues. They get to the front of the queue without thinking

about others, so they waste others' time.

The expert who did the research had asked a person to break into a queue to see what people would do. In Britain, people shouted loudly at him, but when he said,“I'm terribly sorry. I didn't realize there was a queue. Do go before me.”People smiled and said, “Oh, that's all right one more won't matter much.” It was also found in France where 80% of the people didn't mind standing in line. Only if they were treated politely. While in Germany everyone was angry and wore an unhappy face. The expert said, “If only they could learn from the British and the French to think of queuing as an exercise in making the best of an unhappy thing, they might find that the q ueue then moves faster.”9.The research shows that the people in ________ are the most polite in standing in line.

A. Sweden

B. Britain

C. France

D. Germany

10.From the last sentence we know the expert wished the Germans could ________.

A. have a good habit of standing in line

B. save others' time while queuing

C. move quickly when queuing

D. take exercise in queues

11.The result of the research shows that ________.

A. people in Europe hate waiting in line

B. standing in line is a kind of exercise

C. there are always queue jumpers all over the world

D. people good at standing in line think they move along faster

Sometimes, people finally get hurt. Most problems with friendships come up because people are just too selfish to care about the things that their friends need. They care about their own needs much more, which makes it hard for friendships to work. However, being selfish is part of human nature. A person is put together in order to take care of themselves and their own needs, not necessarily those needs of other people. Even though being selfish is something that all humans are born with, it is something that everyone should be against. The best thing to remember when you are a friend to anyone is that you need to treat your friends the same way that you'd like to be treated(对待). This is wonderful advice for a friendship, because it is really the only way to make sure that you are giving your friends everything you would want to be given in a friendship. Whenever you have a question about how you should treat a friend, it is easy to find an answer simply by asking yourself what you would like your friend to do for you, if he or she was in your shoes. Even if you're always thinking about how you'd like to be treated, and your friends are too, there are problems that come up from time to time in each friendship, and it is important to understand how to deal with these problems so that you can build stronger and healthier friendships. Problems like friends getting boyfriends or girlfriends and not spending enough time with their friends, or even friends finding new friends and leaving old friends behind are problems that will probably come up with one or more of your friendships. It is important to know how to deal with these friend problems so that you can keep your friends and make new ones. No one wants to have a broken friendship. 21:This passage mainly talks about ________. A.the importance of friendship B.the advantages(益处) of friendship C.the problems of friendship D.the disadvantages(劣势) of friendship 22:According to the writer, problems with friendship may appear when ________. A.one is honest B.one is selfish C.one is open D.one is kind 23. According to the passage, the first and most important thing to be other people's friend is ________. A.to treat your friend as you like to be B.to give your friends whatever you have C.not to hurt your friends' feelings D.not to think of your own need any more B Two strangers were sitting together in a plane. They were on a long journey. One of the man was a teacher, the other was a farmer. They sat without talking for a while, then the farmer said, "Let's do something to pass the time." "What do you want to do?" the teacher asked. "We can ask each other riddles," the farmer said. "You start." " Let's make the rules first," the teacher said.
