名称的变迁对应相对的历史 The Ba people supposedly established Chongqing during the Spring and Autumn period after moving from their first capital under pressure from Chu . This new capital was first named Jiangzhou (江州) Jiangzhou was subsequently renamed during the Southern and Northern Dynasties to Chu zhou (楚州), then to Yu zhou(渝州), and later during Northern Song songhuizong supposed the character yu have the same pronounciation as yu which means change in chinese must be unlucky because of rebellion lately ，and change the name to Gong zhou (恭州). The name Yu however survives to this day as an abbreviation for Chongqing. It received its current name in 1189, after songguangzong described his crowning as king and then Emperor Guangzong as a "double celebration" (chongqing in short). In his honour, Yu Prefecture was therefore renamed Chongqing subprefecture marking the occasion of his enthronement.

重庆古称江州，以后又称巴郡、楚州、渝州、恭州。南北朝时，巴郡改为楚州。公元581年隋文帝改楚州为渝州，重庆始简称“渝”。公元1189年，宋光宗先封恭王，后即帝位，自诩“双重喜庆”，升恭州为重庆府，重庆由此得名，

距今已有800余年。

In 1929, Chongqing became a municipality and provisional capital in the Republic of China. During this time, the Allies set up the Chinese Anti-fascist headquarters in Chongqing. Due to the bravery, contributions and sacrifices made by the local people during World War II, Chongqing became known as the City of Heroes. Many factories and universities were relocated from eastern China to Chongqing during the war, transforming this city from inland port to a heavily industrialized city.

1937年至1946年，日本向中国发动侵略战争，1937年11月20日，国民政府发布《国民政府移驻重庆宣言》，重庆成为中华民国战时首都。1940年9月6日国民政府明确规定重庆为中华民国陪都。重庆是当时全国抗日战争和反法西斯的最高指挥部，世界著名的反法西斯中心，中国大后方的政治、经济、文化中心，故重庆又有“三都之地”之称。

国共内战时期（直辖市时期）

1945年抗日战争胜利后，为避免内战、争取和平，中囯共产党同国民党政府在重庆进行了为期43天的和平谈判，史称「重庆谈判」。整个事件过程从1945年8月29日开始，至10月10日结束，国共双方签订了《政府与中共代表会谈纪要》（即《双十协定》）。

2010, Chongqing became one of the five National Central cities, the other four are Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Tianjin. Symbolized the brand new beginning of development and construction history of the city.

1996年9月中央批准重庆代管万县市（现重庆市万州区）、涪陵市和黔江地区。1997年3月14日，经八届全国人大五次会议审议批准，重庆恢复为中央直辖市directly under the jurisdiction of，于1997年6月18日正式挂牌。重庆成为继北京、天津、上海之后的中国第四个中央直辖市，也是中国中西部地区唯一的中央直辖市，从此掀开了重庆建设与发展史上崭新的一页。标志

Since its founding 3,000 years ago, Chongqing has been called Jiangzhou, Yuzhou, and Gongzhou, before getting its present name nearly 800 years ago. People call it chuzhou

during 南北dynasty，and 隋文帝change into yu shortened form 渝州which still as the simplified name of 重庆。During 宋dynasty，宋徽宗supposed the character 渝have the same pronounciation as 逾which means change must be not lucky because of谋反lately，and change the name into 恭州。While 80 years later，another empire of song dynasty 宋广宗appoint（任命）恭王and be empire later ，he think it’s the double joyous occasion ，so call 恭州which he master before be the empire 重庆府，
