Teaching aims:

1 knowledge aims:

Learn and master some important words and expressions

Enable the student to know more about the opera

Enable the student to get familiar with some important phrases and words for example: universal awesome stubborn princess prince merciful deadline grand be condemned to something ask for somebody’s hand in marriage fall in love at first sight …..and so on

To develop the students’ listening reading and speaking ability and learn the reading strategy of of an opera

Today I will tell you a love story about one man and two women The man is a prince, Calaf, one woman is a princess, turandot, and the other woman is a slave named Liu. Here are some pictures of them

Step 3Reading Strategy

Explain the definition of a review to the students since different types of article have various ways of reading.

1. What’s the definition of a review?

A review is a report or an essay giving some information as well as some opinion or ideas about a book, performance, a painting or something similar.

2. What should we pay attention to while reading a review of an opera?

a. A review of opera usually starts with some background information.

b. The review c an five some important such as the actor’s names and finally an evaluation.

c. The review may include lots of very descriptive words that reflect feelings.

Step 4listening

listen to the tape carefully pay attention to their relationships and answer the following questions

1 What is Turandot?

2 What decision does Calaf make when he first sees Turandot?

3 What happens at the end of the story?

Step 5Fast-reading for general idea

Go through the passage as quickly as possible and try to find answers to the eight questions in part C1 on page 20 While reading, you just need to focus on and identify the information which is needed to answer the questions.
