北京市海淀区2002年高考模拟试题(英语)4

北京市海淀区2002年高考模拟试题(英语)4

DThe average person learns most of the 30 000~40 000 words whose meanings he or she recognizes by hearing them or getting familiar with them in the context of simply absorbing them without conscious(意识到的) effort. The best way to build a good vocabulary, therefore,is to read a great deal and to participate in a lot of good talks. There are relatively few words that we learn permanenly(永久的)by purposefully referring to dictionaries or keeping word lists. However, even those extra few are of value, and no one will make a mistake by working on developing a larger vocabulary. Here are some suggestions of how to do it.Read plenty of good books. When you come across a new word,or a new meaning of an old word, stop and see if you can understand it from its context. If you can't,and if you can manage without interrupting the thought of the book too much, look it up in a dictionary or ask somebody and then repeat its meaning to yourself a couple of times. If you are really conscientious(认真的),write the word and its meaning in a personal vocabulary list—preferably using it in a sentence,or you can keep a special vocabulary notebook.Go over the list from time to time.Further, try to use a new word in writing or conversation a few times over the next several days.Listen to good talks and be alert to new words you hear or to new meanings of words you already know. Then treat them just as you do the new words you read.Learn and be alert to the parts of words:prefixes, suffixes and roots.Knowing them enables you to make intelligent guesses about the meaning of words. If you are studying a foreign language,be alert to words in that language which relate to words in English.English has inherited(继承) or borrowed much of its vocabulary of 500 000~600 000 words from Latin,Greek,French,Spanish and German.68.When you meet a new word in reading, what should you do?A.Guess its meaning.B.Ask somebody.C.Look it up in a dictionary.D.All of the above.69.According to this passage, the best way to build a good vocabulary is _____.A.to remember a lotB.to read a great dealC.to take part in a lot of good talksD.both B and C70.The phrase “be alert to” in the third paragraph may best be replaced by “_____”.A.look atB.pay attention toC.write downD.learn by heart71.In the fourth paragraph, the word “them” refers to _____.A.the parts of wordsB.prefixesC.suffixesD.rootsEFeng Shoots War FilmThough war is something people hate,Director Feng Xiaoning often exposes his audience to it.“If we don't impress the audience, who are without the painful experience of war, with the cruel injury to life and human nature war causes, how can we bring them a love of peace and objection to war?”asked the director with a glance in his eyes. After Red River Valley and Lover's Grief over the Yellow River, both of which star Chinese model and actress Ning Jing,Feng drew a satisfactory full stop to his war trilogy(三部曲) last month with Purple Sunset. The film tells a story which took place in 1945,at the very moment when World War Ⅱ was drawing to an end.A Chinese peasant and a Soviet woman soldier flee into a forest, where they seize a Japanese girl. They follow the girl in the hope that she will take them out of the forest, but instead they arrive in a Japanese base.Humanisty(⼈道主义) prevents them from killing the young, innocent(⽆辜的) victim of Japanese militarism. This humanity, the longing for peace and eagerness to survive, make the three unite.“If people are touched by justice, tolerance(容忍) and unselfishness,I think I have achieved my goal,”Feng said.Feng admits that there are violent and bloody scenes in the film, such as tanks fighting and Japanese burning Chinese people alive,to show the cruelty of war.But that's never his personal preference,he says.“Everyone who has watched my films can tell how much I detest war,”he said,“I wrote all the things for my war films by myself.Whenever I finished one,I felt as though I had suffered great pain.”Feng regards every one of his productions as an opportunity to learn about human nature and humanity. In spite of violent scenes which frighten and sicken the audience,a balance is sought with beautiful scenery.Just like the snowy mountains in Red River Valley and the grand plateau(⾼原) in lover's Grief over the Yellow River,a beautiful vast grassland appears in this film.“I used to study art and I appreciate beautiful things,”Feng said,“I believe that films should offer the audience a chance to enjoy beauty.”72.Director Feng Xiaoning shot war film because _____.A.he was deeply interested in such a topicB.he wanted to give the audience the painful experience of warC.he hoped to arouse(唤起) people's love of peace and objection to warD.he dreamed of becoming a world-famous director73.A Chinese peasant and a Soviet woman soldier seized a Japanese girl so that _____.A.they could find the Japanese base easilyB.she could take them out of the forestC.they could kill her for revenge(报复)D.it would cause the Japanese militarism to give in74.Scenes of Japanese burning Chinese people alive in the film are to _____.A.show that war is cruelB.attract people's interestC.show Feng's personal preferance in dealing with detailsD.make the film moving and interesting75.The underlined word “detest” in this passage refers to _____.A.hateB.likeC.fleeD.know about。

That may change in the near future.Today some people are using a kind of telephone called the picture phone or vision phone. With it, two people who are talking can see each other.Picture phones can be useful when you have something to show the person you're calling. They may have other uses in the future. One day you may be able to ring up a library and ask to see a book. Then you'll be able to read the book right over your picture phone. Or you may be able to go shopping through your picture phone. If you see something in the newspaper that you think you want to buy, you'll go to your phone and call the shop. People at the shop will show you the thing you're interested in right over the phone. You'll be able to shop all over town and never even leave your room!45. Today people can use the phone to talk with others________.A. in all the townsB. in some places in the worldC. only in big citiesD. almost anywhere on the earth46. The word "it" in the text means________.A. the picture phoneB. any phoneC. the useD. the change47. We can________ through the picture phone according to(根据)the text.A. write a bookB. do shoppingC. play gamesD. have classes(C)"It's over! Thank goodness!"School was over and I was tired. I sat at the front of the school bus.Janie, the driver, tries to break the uncomfortable atmosphere(气氛)by striking the match of talks. I try to listen politely, but usually I am too busy thinking about my day. On this day, however, her talk was worth(值得)listening to."My father's ill," she said to no one in particular(特别地). I could see worry in her eyes. I had never seen her like this before. She always meets students with a smile. With a sudden change of interest, I asked, "What's wrong with him?"With her eyes wet and her voice unusual, she answered, "Heart trouble." Her eyes lowered as she continued. 'I've already lost my mum, so I don't think I can stand losing him." I couldn't answer. My heart ached for her.I sat on the seat thinking of the great pain(痛苦)my own mother was thrown into when her father died. I saw how hard it was, and still is, for her. I wouldn't want anyone to go through that.Suddenly I realized(意识到)Janie wasn't only a bus driver, that was just her job. She had a whole world of family and cares too.I suddenly felt very selfish. I paid no attention to Janie because she was a bus driver. I had judged her by her job and brushed her off as unimportant.I shouldn't have been so selfish and self-centered.Understanding people is an art.48. When the students get on the school bus, Janie usually________.A. Listens to musicB. talks about her own worryC. sits on her seat without wordsD. meets them with a smile49. After she learned Janie's story, the writer thought of________.A. her father's deathB. her mother's painC. the ache of her own heartD. the pain of Janie's parents50. Why did the writer feel selfish? Because________.A. she had never had Janie as anything except a driverB. she had made only a few friends in the schoolC. she had hardly thought of herselfD. she had never listened to others51. In this passage the writer tries to tell us that________.A. losing parents makes people sad and helplessB. understanding the people around us takes timeC. we should try to look deeper into the people around usD. it's not right to judge the people around us by their clothes(D)One of the things I always believe is that no matter how had something is , you can take something positive out of it. The one time I wasn't sure of that was on September 11.I usually wake up at 6: 30 or 7: 00 in the morning. That day, I happened to wake up earlier. I turned on the TV and I saw that a plane had crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. My first reaction was that it was a terrible accident. Then I saw another plane fly into the South Tower and I realized that I was witnessing an act of terrorism. My wife and I spent the day watching the terrible pictures over and over again. When I watched family members looking for their loved ones, the pain in their eyes was something I would never forget. I couldn't understand how something this terrible could have happened. It wasn't until a few weeks after September 11 that I began to see that perhaps some good did come from this tragedy. People seem different now, more understanding, more tolerant. Little things that seemed to be such a trouble before are no longer big things. Personally, I am more tolerant than I was. I realize life is too short, and too precious, to let myself get worried over small things. I've learned also that you can't take things for granted. Things change in the blink of an eye.
