That year also witnessed his one-sided love to the girl sitting next to him in class. Also in this year Xu translated a poem for the first time—“Don’t Cast Away”,written by Chines architect Lin Huiyin. At university,Xu gave outstanding performances in English,Russian,French, while even hosting Shakespeare classes, clearly showing a gift for translation.In1941,at a reception welcoming General Claire Lee Chennault, commander of the US Army Air Force“Flying Tigers”,Xu,who was a senior student at the time, borrowed Lincoln’s well-known phrase“of the people,by the people, for the people”in order to refer to SunYat-sen’s“Three Principles of the people(三民主义)”,solving the communication difficulty between the Chinese and American representatives. It soon became a story on everyone’s lips.Because of this,Xu was regarded as one of the“Five Geniuses”of the National Southwest Associated University.In1949,Xu Yuanchong was studying in France. After his graduation,Xu returned to China and devoted himself to education and translation.In1979,Xu first proposed the“Three Beauties Theory”in a letter to scholar Zhu Guangqian.According to his theory,a good translator should convey the beauty in image, the beauty in sound and the beauty in form,to his readers in his translated works.Xu managed to be such a translator himself.4.What made Xu a good translator?A.Ability to find beauty.B.Love from family and friends.C.Studying more than one foreign language.D.Uniting education and translation.5.What does the underlined word“It”in Paragraph2refer to?A.Lincoln’s well-known phrase.B.Xu’s outstanding work.C.Three Principles of the People.D.The communication difficulty.6.Which of the following best describe Xu’s career?A.Simple.B.Rough.C.Fruitful.D.Romantic.7.How does the author develop this article?A.By contrast.B.By time order.C.By example.D.By space order.CCapentes is a waste picker. She collects bags of separated garbage, placing food waste in one container. This material will be turned into compost(堆肥)at the local recycling facility. The rest of the waste goes into separate containers. The recyclable materials are later sold. The Mother Earth Foundation in the Philippines is a member of the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, called GAIA.The organization wants to prevent food waste from going to landfills(垃圾填埋场). Food waste gives off methane(甲烷)gas as it breaks down.Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas.Methane traps more heat than carbon dioxide. But it does not stay in the atmosphere nearly as long—around12years compared with hundreds of years.GAIA says preventing organic waste from going to landfills or being burned is a proven and cost-effective climate solution. The environmental organization supports its members, including waste pickers, around the world. GAIA is working with governments to set up systems to separate and collect organic waste and establish facilities to compost it.At a materials recycling facility in Malabon, organic waste collected from households is turned into compost. This material then goes into a community garden to grow vegetables. Some of the food waste is broken down into biogas. This biogas is then used to cook vegetables for waste workers to eat.It is a complete cycle, said Froilan Grate, chief of GAIA Asia Pacific, based in Manila.Grate said there are challenges in establishing these systems in new places. It costs money to set up a facility for composting.People, including local officials, have to be educated on the importance of separating waste. Containers have to be provided to households that cannot buy more than one.And sometimes separating organic waste is not thought to be important. Also, unlike recyclables and metals, there is not a large market for organic materials. Therefore, waste workers must be paid for the system to work. But Grate believes these problems can be solved.More people are making the connection between reducing methane and fighting climate change. The world needs better systems for dealing with waste because the current methods are adding to warming. The treatment of organic matter is an important way to reduce methane gas.8.What is GAIA currently committed to?A.Getting rid of food waste by burying it.B.Reducing the impact of organic waste on the climate.C.Economizing on food.D.Reducing the harm of carbon dioxide.9.What is the main idea of Paragraph4?A.The method to collect waste.B.The process to treat organic waste.C.How to use a recycling facility.D.The wide use of organic waste.10.Which statement supports the challenge Grate mentioned?A.Collecting organic waste does not require significant investment.B.Every household needs to constantly replace the latest trash cans.anic waste holds a large share in the garbage market.D.Families need to develop the habit of garbage sorting.11.What can be the best title for the text?A.Methane:an Important Greenhouse GasB.The New Systems to Reduce Greenhouse GasC.The New Uses of Organic WasteD.Waste Pickers Help Fight Climate ChangeDShortly after its opening on the first day of Chinese New Year,The Wandering Earth began to gain momentum (展现强劲势头).In a little over a week,it made2.8billion yuan in the domestic market alone. The film’s popularity and success has come as a surprise to many reviewers especially since there hasn’t been that much success for Chinese-produced science fiction in the past. Many agree that this film will change the embarrassing situation and bring in a new age for Chinese science fiction. As a genre(类型),Chinese science fiction has lagged behind general fiction in both the film and publishing industries.Even Liu Cixin’s(the author who wrote the short story on which The Wandering Earth is based)The Three Body Problem—which is currently quite popular—didn’t have many readers until it was translated into English and won the Hugo Award(雨果奖)in2015.Personally,I haven’t read much of any genre written in Chinese, but I do notice that there aren’t many separate sections of the bookstore dedicated to science fiction.I cannot speak for everyone, but some people seem to have misunderstandings regarding the genre. My parents were the type who tried to steer me in the direction of non-fiction and the classics. They believed that science fiction and fantasy were“unrealistic nonsense”and would“rot my brain.”Actually, great science fiction writers do their research.More often than not,one can learn a great deal about science and its possible development from reading science fiction.Sure, some of the concepts may be confusing or technical in nature, but that is also part of the appeal.Things like the internet, electric cars and tablet computers were first theorized(建立理论)in science fiction before they were invented. The author simply uses a combination of science and their imagination to create worlds different from the Earth of today, from which we can get bits and pieces that can be turned into a reality. The world is changing. There may very well be a time when Earth is no longer able to sustain the entire population. We could be living on Mars or in giant spaceships;perhaps we will be forced to move Earth to a new solar system just like The Wandering Earth. Each of these scenarios has appeared in science fiction multiple times. If we are to be prepared for what is to come,we can look into modern science fiction for a window into the future.12.According to the article, which of the following statements about The Wandering Earth is NOT true?A.Critics did not expect too much of the film before its release.B.It is the first time that Chinese science fiction has succeed in the film industry.C.The film was adapted from a short story in Liu Cixin’s The Three Body Problem.D.In the future we might be faced with similar crises to the one described in the movie.13.We can learn from the article that the author________.A.has little interest in science fictionB.has never read Chinese science fictionC.was not allowed to read science fiction by his parentsD.has not been prepared for the future development of science and technology.14.Paragraph3mainly focuses on________.A.the practical significance of science fictionB.real technologies inspired by science fictionC.people’s misunderstandings about science fictionD.imaginary worlds created by science fiction writers15.What does the underlined word“scenarios”in the last paragraph probably mean?A.strategiesB.proposalsC.ideasD.pictures第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Growing up in a multilingual household where Chinese, Cantonese, and English mixed, I felt it natural to continue exploring new linguistic possibilities.Languages fascinated me. I was attracted by the way words gracefully rolled off tongues and how each language seemed to unlock a door to an entirely new world, no matter how challenging they were to learn.Eager to try beyond Asian languages, it was my mother who suggested French as a suitable starting point. The elegance and poetic charm of the language quickly attracted me. The melodic flow and the way the words effortlessly danced off my tongue caused an exciting feeling, fueling my desire to explore deeper into its complexity. These ice creams are often tiny copies of famous landmarks or cultural relics (文物) that offer visitors a delight for the taste buds (味蕾).The trend of cultural-themed ice creams began in 2019 when the Old Summer Palace in Beijing was one of the first scenic spots in China to introduce lotus-shaped ice creams. It was inspired by that in 2017 eleven ancient lotus seeds were discovered in a pool at the Old Summer Palace. Six of these ancient lotus seeds bloomed in the summer of 2019. So to mark the occasion, staff at the Old Summer Palace designed ice creams shaped like lotus flowers. These ice creamswere widely loved by visitors, not only serving as a cold treat but also offering a unique way for visitors to connect with their cultural heritage. To protect their cultural relics, many museums have put up signs banning photography or the use of a flash. However, cultural-themed ice creams provide an alternative way for visitors to catch memories of their visit. Various flavors offer visitors a choice of colors and ingredients for the ice cream, which reflect the local characteristics and charm of these cold treats. It is also suggested by the museums that the visitors can take the carved ice cream bars home with them to use as bookmarks. For many young people, taking photos of themselves standing alongside cultural landmarks is an artistic preference from their parents’ generation. To them, a selfie with a cultural-themed ice cream is a much cooler way to show off their travel experiences and bridge the gap between modern life and distant historical relics.8.What can we learn about cultural-themed ice creams from the first two paragraphs?A.Visitors are eager to try their taste.B.They are made due to summer heat.C.Visitors spend much money on them.D.They are often shaped like landmarks.9.What inspired the idea of cultural-themed ice creams?A.The Old Summer Palace.B.The wide love by visitors.C.The discovery of ancient lotus.D.The flowers of the six ancient seeds. 10.What does the underlined word “bridge” in the last paragraph probably mean?A.Narrow.B.Measure.C.Create.D.Affect.11.What is the main idea of this passage?A.Creative way to protect cultural heritage.B.Ancient lotus seeds flowered in modern times.C.A cool way to show off your travel experiences.D.Experiencing colorful cultures with your taste buds. The rainforests of eastern Australia are home to a stinging (刺人的) tree known asDendrocnide. Many people call it the gympie-gympie tree — a name given to the tree by indigenous Australians. It’s covered with sharp, needle-like hairs that carry poison. If you brush up against a gympie-gympie tree, you won’t forget it anytime soon. The pain can stay with you for hours, days or weeks. In some cases, it’s been reported to stay for months.Scientists have long looked for the source of this powerful sting. Now researchers at the University of Queensland have discovered what makes this stinging plant so painful. After carefully studying different kinds of gympie-gympie trees, the scientists were able to separate out different chemicals that the trees produce. This allowed them to identify a group of chemicals that they believed was responsible for the pain. The researchers created artificial versions of these chemicals, which they call “gympietides”. Sure enough, when the scientists injected mice with gympietides, the mice licked (舔) at the places where they’d been injected, indicating that they hurt in those places. When the scientists studied the way gympietides were built, they found that they formed a knot-like shape. The shape makes the chemical very stable, which helps explain how the pain lasts so long. The knot-like shape of the gympietides was similar to the shape of poisons produced by poisonous spiders and con e snails. The scientists were surprised to see three very different kinds of life all use similar poisons. Spiders and con e snails carry poisons because they catch food by stinging other creatures. It’s not clear how stinging helps the gympie-gympie tree.Though the tree’s sting may stop some animals from eating it, it doesn’t stop all animals. Beetles and pademelons (small relatives of the kangaroo) are able to eat the plant without trouble. 12.A touch on the stinging tree is unforgettable because ________.A.it has an unusual appearance B.it is extremely rare in natureC.the suffering caused by it remains long D.touching it creates a quite strange feeling 13.What do scientists fail to find out about the stinging tree?A.How it produces poisons.B.What poisons it produces.C.The consequences of its sting.D.How it benefits from the sting.14.What does the text imply about the stinging tree?A.It produces the same poisons as spiders.B.Poisonous as it is, it also has natural enemies.C.Animals are wise enough to stay away from it.D.Only one chemical in it causes pain to the toucher.15.What is the best title for the text?A.Stinging Trees’ Secrets Exposed B.Warning: Trees That Can Poison YouC.Strange Tree Species Found in Australia D.Ways to Avoid Being Hurt by Stinging TreesAre you trying to find ways to be more effective at your job? Nowadays many girls in high schools often have very little for their supper, or even go to study without having supper in order to keep slim or lose weight. As a result, there is something wrong with them. It’s often easier for them to feel tired, so they can’t concentrate on their studies, which makes them get less high marks in examinations. Personally, I don’t think it is right because when they study in the evening, they need the energy and nutrition that the supper provides. In my points of view, they can not only become healthy but also slim if they do some sports on the basis of keeping regular diet every day.
第二节:读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)
Prevention of violence in schools
This passage tells us that the number of acts of student violence in Japan increased sharply in the last year and that many of these acts involved elementary school students.
There are many reasons for this phenomenon. Firstly, increasing study stress often makes students feel upset, so they tend to lose temper even over little things. Secondly, some schools and fa milies don’t control the children and often ignore their mental health education, which leads to a fall in moral values. Also, some children become violent because of the break-up of their parents’ marriage.
With more and more violent incidents happening in schools, many students and teachers are being hurt and the quiet campus is being disturbed. It is undoubtedly harmful to a student’s study and healthy development. Therefore, I think schools should decrease the study stress on students properly, parents should give their children a warm and harmonious family, and teachers should care more about students’ mental health.。
