按照国际标准SITC三位数分类,对外贸易可分为0-9类，其中0-4类为初级商品，包括食品和供主要食用的活动物，饮料及烟类，非食用原料，矿物燃料、润滑油及有关原料和动植物油脂及蜡；5-9类为工业制成品，包括化学品及有关产品，轻纺、橡胶和矿冶产品及相关制成品，机械及运输设备，杂项制品和其他未分类产品，两者比例一直未衡量一国贸易商品结构合理性的基本指标，其中，如果工业制成品占比高，该贸易国的工业化程度就较高，反之亦然。
在SITC分类的基础上，杨汝岱、朱诗娥（2008）将贸易商品进一步分类为资源密集型，劳动密集型，资本密集型和技术密集型4大类：资源密集型包括所有的初级产品，劳动密集型包括工业制成品当中的轻纺、橡胶和矿冶产品及相关制成品，杂项制品和其他未分类产品，资本密集型包括化工产品和机械及运输设备（傅朝阳、陈煜， 2006）。
此外，考虑到包括机电产品（金属制品、机械及设备、电器及电子产品、运输工具和仪器仪表等产品）和高新技术产品（运用生物技术、生命科学技术、光电技术、计算机与通信技术、电子技术、计算机集成制造技术、材料技术、航空航天等技术生产的产品）的技术密集型产品在我国贸易中的重要地位，有必要对其进行分。

海关合作理事会税则目录
CUSTOMS COOPERATION COUNCIL NOMENCLATURE，CCCN
是国际上使用最广泛的商品分类目录之一。 海关合作理事会于1950年12月15日在比利时首都布鲁 塞尔成立。其税则目录于1959年生效，1965、1972 及1978年经过了三次系统的修订。《海关合作理事会 税则目录》在1974年前称为布鲁塞尔税则目录,缩写为 BTN。 CCCN第三次修订本将所有商品归为21类99章，计 1011个税目。第1—24章为农产品；第25—99章为工 业品。税目号以4位数字表示，中间用圆点隔开。前两 位数字表示所属章次号，后两位数字表示该税目在此章 内的顺序。采用CCCN的约有150个国家（或地区）， 其中包括20个对中国给惠的国家。
按大类经济类别分类
Classification by Broad Economic Categories, BEC 是国际贸易商品统计的一种商品分类体系，由联合国统计局制订、 联合国统计委员会审议通过、联合国秘书处出版颁布。 BEC 是为按照商品大的经济类别综合汇总国际贸易数据制订的， 是按照国际贸易商品的主要最终用途，把SITC的基本项目编号重 新组合排列编制而成。通过 BEC 分类，可以把按SITC编制的贸 易数据转换为《国民经济核算体系》（ SNA ）框架下按最终用途 划分的三个基本货物门类：资本品、中间产品和消费品，以便把 贸易统计和国民经济核算及工业统计等其他基本经济统计结合起 来用于对国别经济、区域经济或世界经济进行分析。 BEC 分类采用 3 位数编码结构。第三次修订本把全部国际贸易商 品分为 7 大类：食品和饮料、工业供应品、燃料和润滑油、资本 货物 ( 运输设备除外 ) 及其零附件、运输设备及其零附件、其他 消费品、未列名货品。 7 大类分为 19 个基本类。 19 个基本类 按最终用途汇总为资本品、中间产品和消费品三个门类。

国际贸易标准分类（Standard International Trade Classification，简称：SITC）,是为用于国际贸易商品的统计和对比的标准分类方法。

国际贸易标准分类《国际贸易标准分类》的制订要追溯到20世纪上半叶。
1920年国际联盟成立，着手制订国际贸易名词术语和商品统计目录。
在30年代它出版了《关税名词草案》，并在此草案的基础上，修订成为各成员国共同使用的《国际贸易统计商品目录简编》。
第二次世界大战结束后，51个国家共同创建了联合国。
为对世界贸易进行统计和分析，由联合国统计委员会对上述商品目录简编进一步修订，于1950年制订完成《国际贸易标准分类》。
标准共分10个门类，50个大类，150个中类和570个细类。

《国际贸易标准
分类》自1951年颁布实施以后，进行了数次修订，除门类框架不动以外，其他类目，随着层次的增加变动也相应扩大。
SITC采用经济分类标准，即按原料、半制品、制成品分类并反映商品的产业部门来源和加工程度。
该标准目录使用5位数字表示，第1位数字表示类，前两位数字表示章，前3位数字表示组，前4位数字表示分组。
联合国已经公布了SITC(Rev．4)。
然而，SITC在我国却较少使用。
