I think the most terrible thing in life for my little brother is getting up in the morning. He is almost sick when my mothercalls, "Herbert! It's seven o'clock! Get up!"
Herbert answers, "I'm coming!" and goes right back to sleep. I'm not at all like my brother. I don't like to go to bed at nightbut I don't mind getting up in the morning. I usually wake up before my mother calls me. I jump out of bed and go into thebathroom to take a shower. I get dressed, brush my teeth, comb my hair, and get ready to go downstairs for breakfast as soonas my mother calls.
But not Herbert. He just sleeps. A military band (军乐队) in our bedroom could not wake him up. I call him and say, "Getup! Mum will be up here to pull you out of bed if you don't get up immediately!"

inferences from written texts. That's why focused training in
English reading comprehension is so essential.
The Benefits of Focused Training
You might be wondering, "Why do I need focused training?
Can't I just read more and get better?" While regular reading
practice is undoubtedly helpful, focused training provides a
structured approach that targets specific reading comprehension
skills and strategies. Here are some of the benefits of focused

I am always looking for ways to improve my reading
comprehension skills in English, especially when it comes
to practicing with specific exercises. One type of exercise
that I find really helpful is reading comprehension
passages for first-year students. These passages are
usually designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, making
them a great way to practice reading and understanding
English texts.
One passage that I recently came across was about a
young girl named Lily who loved to read books. The passage
described how Lily would spend hours in the library,
getting lost in the pages of her favorite stories. It also
talked about how Lily's love for reading helped her improve
her own writing skills and inspired her to create her own
stories.
As I read through the passage, I found that it was full
