Step 1 Greetings
Greet the class as usual.
Step 2 Revision
Ask the students to act out as many dialogues about health as possible in pairs.
Step 3 Discussion
Show the picture of an old man lying on the side of th e road and ask the students to guess what happened? Help the students to answer:Maybe he was seriously ill. He may be knocked down by a car. …Then ask them:If you meet with this situation,what will you do? Ask them to discuss in groups. Then ask some students to repor t their answers.
Step 4 Reading
Say:Read the passage please and answer the questions:How did the bus driver and passengers do with the old man? Do you think it comes from a newspaper or a book? How do you know? After several minutes,ask some students to report their answers.
3b Then get the students to read the passage again and check the things that h appened in the story.
Step 5 Pair work
Work in pairs and discuss the questions in 3c. Then ask some students to report their answers.
Step 6 Group work
Get the students to work in groups to act out what happened in the passage. After several minutes,ask some groups to act it o ut in front of the class.
Step 7 Grammar Focus
Say:When you have health problems,you may say “I have a ...” When other people have problems,you may give them advice like “You should ...” or “You shouldn’t ...” Please look at the pictures on the screen and make up dialogues in pairs like this:A:What’s the matter? B:I have a stomachache. A:You shouldn’t eat so much next time. After several minutes,ask some pairs to act out their dialogues.
Then show the picture of Ben and sa y:A:What’s the matter with Ben? B:He hurt himself. He has a sore back. A:He should lie down and rest. Ask some pairs to repeat it. Then show more pictures and get the students to practice in pairs.
Step 8 Guessing game
Work in groups. One student mimes a problem and the other students guess the problem and give advice like this:A:Do you have a toothache? B:Yes, I do. C:Does he / sh e have a toothache? D:Yes,he / she does. He / She should see a dentist and get an X-ray. Then ask some groups to act ou t the dialogue in front of the class.
Step 9 Homework
Make up dialogues in 4c in groups after class.
