Spelling Bee
1、The purpose & significance
To enrich the 15th summer camp of DGUT and enhance our students’participations,cooperations,and
contributions for the camp, we plan to hold the Spelling Bee and the first draft is on the following.
2、The organizers of the competition
Foreign teachers:Emily Powell, Morgan, Dalyn, Sam, Riley, Alec, Lacy, Megan
AA: Alan, Sherman, Katie
TA: All the TAs from PP201 to PP603
3、Time
From 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm on July, 31
(Competitors are supposed to be in the classroom before 7:00 pm to draw lots and find their teammates.)
4、Classroom
Undetermined (We will inform you all before July, 30)
5、Rules
First: 1、The hosts declare the opening of the
competition and introduce each team
2、The hosts announce the rules of the
competition and the standards of grading Second: The competitions can be divided into three
parts. The team which gets the highest
Total points is the winner of the competition.
Part 1:(For Grade 2 or Grade 3 students)
In this part, the competitors are
supposed to spell the words (10) when
they see the pictures on the screen. Each competitor has 10 seconds to get
prepared. They can get 10 points when
they spell it right and they get 0
point when the spell it wrong.
Part 2:(For Grade 4 or Grade 5 students)
In this part, the competitors are
supposed to spell the words (15)
after the foreign teachers read it.
Each competitors has 15 seconds to
get prepared. They can get 20 points
When they spell it right and they get
0 point when the spell it wrong.
Part 3:(For Grade 5 or Grade 6 students)
In this part, the competitors are
supposed to spell the words (10)
after the foreign teachers read its
explanation. Each competitors has 15 seconds to get prepared. They can
get 30 points when they spell it
right and they get 0 point when they
spell it wrong.
6、Awards
According to the points they gain, we will rank each
team and the foreign teachers can pick the best
Competitors of each team.
And we set special awards for 5 classes whose students
behave well during the competition.

(Some foreign teachers may have to read the words and its Explanations and others have to count the points. And we Will inform you all before the competition.)
Notice: When finishing the form, foreign teachers are supposed to give your form to Alan, Sherman or Katie. And AA should finish the counting jobs and convey the results to the hosts.
8、Backup plan(If the competition finishes too soon) Second chance: Each team has one chance to gain
others’point and the rule can be listed as Follows.
Each team has 30 seconds to choose your
competitor.In this part, you have to compete with your opponent and spell the word as
quickly as possible. If you know how to spell it, just raise your hand and spell it. You can get one point if you spell it right and
the winning team can exchange the points with your competitors so as to receive your second chance.
Thanks for your help and cooperation. If you have some good ideas or suggestions, just tell your TA and I will try my best to make the competition better.
