Basic American Values and Beliefs基本的美国价值观和信仰Individual Freedom and Self-Reliance个人自由和自力更生The earliest settlers came to the North American continent to establish colonies which were free from the controls that existed in European societies. They wanted to escape the controls placed on their lives by kings and governments, priests and churches, noblemen and aristocrats. To a great extent, they succeeded. In 1776 the British colonial settlers declared their independence from England and established a new nation, the United States of America. In so doing, they overthrew the king of England and declared that the power to govern would lie in the hands of the people. They were now free from the power of the king. In 1789,when they wrote the Constitution for their new nation, they separated church and state so that there would never be a government-supported church. Also,in writing the Constitution they expressly forbade titles of nobility to ensure that an aristocratic society would not develop. There would be no ruling class of noblemen in the new nation.

4.political realism:

Inttelligence:An intelligence test measures a person's ability to solve different kinds of problems. There are many kinds of intelligence tests. The tests that are sometimes given in schools are called Stanford-Binet I. Q. tests. They were first developed in 1905 by a French psychologist named Alfred Binet and later revised(修订) for use on children in the United States by psychologists at Stanford University.Binet had observed that on the average a 10-year-old learns more quickly and can solve more difficult problems than a 9-year -old; an 11-year-old learns more quickly than a 10-year-old, and so on. As a rule a child's intelligence tends to increase year by year. Therefore Binet arranged his tests by age levels:the first problems in any test can be solved by all children of the age level being tested; the problems become more and more difficult until few, if any, children of that age can solve them. After a child has completed a Stanford-Binet test, the psychologist figures out the score and then compares it with theaverage score of other children of the same age. If a child solves the same number of problems as the average child of the same age solves, his I. Q. will be 100.If he solves more problems, his I. Q. will be more than 100.If he solves fewer, it will be less than 100.By comparing a child's score in this test with his score on an earlier one, the psychologist can tell how fast the child's abilities are growing in relation to his age.1.Stanford-Binet I. (A) contrast the theories of Jean Wagner with those of other contemporary critics
(B) document the influence of Jean Wagner on the development of Afro-American poetry
It is Wagner who first demonstrated the essential fusion of racial and religious feeling in Afro-American poetry. The two, he argued, form a symbiotic union in which religious feelings are often applied to racial issues and racial problems are often projected onto a metaphysical plane. Wagner found this most eloquently illustrated in the Black spiritual, where the desire for freedom in this world and the hope for salvation in the next are inextricably intertwined.

The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today对明天做好的准备就是今天做到最好范文:There is a famous saying that the best preparation for tomorrow is to do good work today. Simple as the saying is, it informs us that one doesn’t need to worry about the future if he can seize the moment. It is generally believed that taking immediate action is of great importance. Doing good work today enables people to achieve their great goals step by step. Assume a college student who is indulged in his wishful thinking of passing the CET-6 exam with a high score without any efforts and hardwork, and he will be devastated to accept the reality when he fails. The same thing may be said of some grown-ups who aspire to gain fame and fortune but never bother to put their splendid plans into practice immediately. Therefore, by some means or other we must take action to pursue our goals. It is necessary for us to aim high but our behaviors should also deserve our dreams. We are supposed to put our efforts into every single day and never look down upon those little tasks. While Mexico has a rate of 32.8%, America is following closely at 31.8%. America has the maximum number of wellness clubs, the maximum variety of nutrition capsules, which makes one assume that theresidents are the fittest. However, this is far from reality, and the citizens are growing more concerned about their increasing waistlines like never before.According to an alarming report by the CDC, published between the years 2011-2012, almost 78.6 million people in the USA are experiencing from chronic obesity, which is equal to the entire population of Germany or Iran. The regional pattern that could be noticed is that the south has the highest cases of obesity, while the west had the least.Obesity is now becoming the evilest possible enemy for Americans. With a fast-paced life, fried food, and bad eating habits, obesity hasbecome a common occurrence. The people are obsessed with eating up to a point where nothing can be done. The younger generations are not advised to eat vegetables as the parents themselves are more drawn toward pizzas or burgers.Other than this unhealthy food habit, there are numerous reasons for obesity among Americans. The environment where the Americans live in is to blame for obesity as well. The environment supports easy access to unhealthy food. Overeating is encouraged, and technological designs urge people to be lazier than before. With less exercise to do, no wonder the Americans are quick to gain weight. The Americans are yet to realize how adversely obesity might affect them. From increased chances of cancer to occurrences of the stroke to even cardiovascular diseases are all the consequences of obesity. The kids are not encouraged to eat more vegetables, but the intake of oily and fatty foods are not prohibited. The hotels and restaurants are offering larger servings of the poison to survive in competition.Since children are the future of the current generation, they should be taught the importance of a healthy diet. • A study by academics from the University of California and Northwestern University claimed that "the causal link between the consumption of restaurant foods and obesity is minimal at best." • It argued that a tax on high-calorie food, as proposed by many health campaigners in the US and Britain, may therefore not be an effective way for governments to tackle the problem.
Transgenic Mice Could Solve The Obesity Epidemic
“fat-gene” found in mice
• • By tweaking an enzyme in mice, researchers expected to get rodents with low cholesterol, but fatty livers. Instead they found a switch which might be a weight loss miracle. The researchers from the University of Alberta bred a mouse lacking a single enzyme that's associated with fat metabolism — triacylglycerol hydrolase (TGH). TGH is partly responsible for releasing triglycerides from the liver where they go on to form very low-density lipoproteins (VLDLs), which are considered "bad" cholesterol. The scientists thought that breeding a mouse deficient in TGH would have fewer VLDLs, and instead found the mice that not only had lower cholesterol, but also system wide metabolic improvement — seemingly without downside. The researchers hypothesized that removing the TGH would mean the more fat would build up in the liver, as the mechanism by which the fat was released was missing. Instead of getting tiny rodent foie gras, the triglycerides were burned almost immediately rather than being stored, and the liver compensated by synthesizing less fat. The rodents ate more, but also expended more energy, and showed no change in body weight compared to their normal cousins.
