类型7| 文化教育(2016·天津高考·C)When John was growing up, other kids felt sorry for him.His parents always had him weeding the garden, carrying out the garbage and delivering newspapers. But when John reached adulthood, he was better off than his childhood playmates. He had more job satisfaction, a better marriage and was healthier. Most of all, he was happier.Far happier. These are the findings of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 teenage boys from Boston. The study showed that those who had worked as boys enjoyed happier and more productive lives than those who had not.“Boys who worked in the home or community gained competence (能力) and came to feel they were worthwhile members of society,”said George Vaillant, the psychologist (心理学家) who made the discovery.“And because they felt good about themselves, others felt good about them.”Vaillant's study followed these males in great detail.Interviews were repeated at ages 25, 31 and 47.Under Vaillant, the researchers compared the men's mental-health scores with their boyhood-activity scores.Points were awarded for part-time jobs, housework, effort in school, and ability to deal with problems. The link between what the men had done as boys and how they turned out asadults was surprisingly sharp. Those who had done the most boyhood activities were twice as likely to have warm relations with a wide variety of people, five times as likely to be well paid and 16 times less likely to have been unemployed. The researchers also found that IQ and family social and economic class made no real difference in how the boys turned out.Working—at any age—is important.Childhood activities help a child develop responsibility, independence, confidence and competence—the underpinnings (基础) of emotional health. They also help him understand that people must cooperate and work toward common goals. The most competent adults are those who know how to do this.Yet work isn't everything. As Tolstoy once said,“One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how to love, to work for the person one loves and to love one's work.”46.What do we know about John?A.He enjoyed his career and marriage.B.He had few childhood playmates.C.He received little love from his family.D.He was envied by others in his childhood.47.Vaillant's words in Paragraph 2 serve as ________.A.a description of personal values and social valuesB.an analysis of how work was related to competenceC.an example for parents' expectations of their childrenD.an explanation why some boys grew into happy men48.Vaillant's team obtained their findings by ________.A.recording the boys' effort in schoolB.evaluating the men's mental healthC.comparing different sets of scoresD.measuring the men's problem solving ability49.What does the underlined word “sharp” probably mean in Paragraph 4?A.Quick to react. B.Having a thin edge.C.Clear and definite. D.Sudden and rapid.50.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.Competent adults know more about love than work.B.Emotional health is essential to a wonderful adult life.C.Love brings more joy to people than work does.D.Independence is the key to one's success.

阅读理解A(社会生活)(2016·福州模拟)If you are interested in the news,it means you care about what is happening in your community and the world. But sometimes news can be upsetting. If you find out about sad news and it makes you feel worried or upset, what should you do? Dr.Harold Koplewicz,President of the Child Mind Institute, has some suggestions.Sometimes, the news you watch on TV is not completely accurate. The news on TV is fast-paced.When bad news affects our nation, all of us need time to understand and process it.Your parents and your teachers can be your first sources to get information.Even someone who is as strong and powerful as President Barack Obama weeps when he's very sad. It's part of being a human that sad events make us feel sad. That doesn't mean that we need to fall_apart.It means that we just have to admit that we're sad and move forward.People respond in different ways when facing sad news. There are certain kids who are very private and don't want anyone to see how they feel. But if you feel worried, talk to your parents and teachers, which can help you feel more comfortable. If you still feel very nervous, another way to feel better is to take part in activities that are helpful to others.Go with your parents to the children's welfare institutions,or think of ways that you or your class can help others. On the other hand, remember to go to sleep at the right time, play with your friends or go to the movies. It is okay to feel sad,but it's not good to stop doing the things you usually do.

A.remain objectiveB.stand by those against itC.believe it harmlessD.hold the view of “waitandsee”19.Which of the following can be the proper title for the passage?A.Is Sugar the New Evil?B.How Much Sugar Do You Take Daily?C.Is Sugar to Be Taxed?D.How Much Do You Know About Sugar?Ⅲ. One reason Americans eat so many calories is that we tend to eat largeportions.Studies find that hamburgers and fries are generally offered in serving sizes two to five times larger than the appropriate meal size.Researchers find we usually clean our plates no matter how high they’re piled, even if we already feel satisfied.See the suggestions below to further master the fine art of sizing up(估量) your snacks and suppers.Extremely large portions are one possible reason Americans continue getting fatter even as the percentage of our total calories from fat has gone down in recent years.Fortunately, portions are rela tively simple to control because it’s easier to count cookies than calories or grams of fat.Prepicture e familiar objects to picture how much you should eat of a food before you pick up your fork or spoon. For example,a half cup of lowfat gran ola is about the size of your fist.A half cup of lowfat ice cream equals half an orange.Use a smaller dish. This tip might sound ridiculous, but it works.First and most obvious is that you can’t put as much food on,say,a salad plate. But psychologically, you’re just not as prone to eat as heartily and quickly if your plate will be empty in 45 seconds.Have raw vegetables at every meal.Raw cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and peppers have few calories and lots of nutrients.A plate of them in the middle of the table almost always gets eaten up,cutting down appetite for the more caloriedense meat.Start your meal with soup.Studies show that a bowl of soup at the start of the meal reduces overall meal consumption, since they are lowest in calories and highest in nutrients.Manage your fork. After every bite of food, put your fork down.Don’t pick it up until you have thoroughly chewed and swallowed the previous bite. The goal is both to slow down your eating and to eat less.Remember:Your body needs 20 minutes of digestion before it sends signals to your brain that you are no longer hungry.

[典例1](2016·浙江高考,11)Scientists have advanced many theories about whyhuman beings cry tears, none of ________ has been proved.A.whom B.whichC.what D.thatB[如果学生把先行词误认为scientists,容易错选A项。

][典例2]He wrote five novels,two of________translated into English.A.it B.themC.which D.thatB[此题很容易掉进陷阱误选C项,学生误以为后面是非限制性定语从句。

若在translated前加上were,were translated就成了谓语动词,这时才可以选连词which。

单项填空1.(2016·南京学情调研)Some of our history were glorious, others best left in our historical records,never________.A.to repeat B.to be repeatedC.being repeated D.having been repeatedB[考查非谓语动词。

]4.Off the bike________and the scene frightened her mother.A.fell the little girl B.did the little girl fallC.the little girl fell D.did the little girl fellA[

]10.—Would you mind if I smoked here?—Sorry,better not.Your smoking in the office________me!A.bothered B.had botheredC.have bothered D.will botherD[

]11.Not far from the building,there was a garden,________owner seated in it playing hide-and-seek,with his children every afternoon.A.whose B.whichC.that D.itsD[句意:离大楼不远处,有一个花园,每天下午它的主人坐在里面和他的孩子们一起玩捉迷藏。

] 12.You________so much cash with you, you know—that shop accepts checks.A.couldn't have taken B.wouldn't have takenC.shouldn't have taken D.needn't have takenD[
