Today we are gonging to visit Taibai National Nature Reserve. It’s quit a long way. But I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Here I’d like to give you a brief introduction about Taibai National Nature Reserve. It’s about 120 kilometers west of Xi’an, and founded in 1965, it’s among the first group of the Chinese nature reserves. It aims at protecting the subtropical and humid temperate zone forests, mountain shrubs, grassy marshes and some rare species of both plants and animals.
Rising 3,767 meters above sea level Mount is the highest peak of the Qinling Mountain Range, as well as in the east of the mainland of China,. The Mountain is capped with snow all the year round, hence the name Taibai, which means: grand and white .Snow on Mount Taibai is one of the “Eight scenic in central Shaanxi plain.”
The Qinling Mountain Range is a natural barrier between North China and South China, and also the watershed between the Yangtze River and the Yellow River. As the main peak of the Qinling Mountain Range, the imposing height and fast-changing capricious climate of Taibai Mountain add some mystery to itself. In 1991, the Ministry of Forestry approved the establishment of the Taibai Mountain National Forest Park, which was opened to
the public in July 1992.
In the mountain range from 620 to 3,511 meters above sea level, the park features different climatic zones, vegetation zones and animal zones. Climate, animals and vegetation are distinctively distributed vertically in the park, so the climate features along the hillside can be categorized into warm-temperate, temperate, rigid-temperate and rigid from the foot up to the top. The Mountain is correspondingly covered with six different scenes each with its own unique biological communities.
Mount Taibai is alive with a variety of plants species.1,550 of which are mountain plants and over 300 rare bryophyte.
