Good morning! I am honored to have been invited to speak at this conference.
Today, my topic is “Status of food safety”. At the very beginning of my speech, I’d like to ask a question. Do you ever worry about the safety of the food you eat every day? OK, thank you! It is clear to see that issues of food safety have already become the focus of public attention.
It’s true that food safety is a worldwide problem that almost every country is faced with. But compared with foreign country, food safety in china has its own character and actuality.
In recent years, the issues of food safety in China have emerged in endless situations. Not only does it take a toll on people’s health, but it also causes huge losses of property, which creates serious problems for food export and the social stability.
The following are several examples. In 2008, a lot of babies who drunk infant milk powder produced by SanLu were found to be suffering from kidney stones. Then they found melamine in those milk powder. As a result, 6 babies died and thousands of babies were hospitalized.
On March 15, 2011, CCTV reported that some pig farms in HeNan used clenbuterol to raise pigs and those toxic pork had been into the market. Research has shown that eating pork containing clenbuterol may make people poisoning. What’s worse, if eat for long-term, it can induce malignant tumor.

Swill-cooked dirty oil is another hot word which causes new round discussion about the food safety of China. The swill-cooked dirty oil is usually made from discarded kitchen waste that has been refined, reports said, adding that oil, which contains a highly toxic and carcinogenic substance called "aflatoxin", can cause cancer.

According to the following chart, we can see that no matter from which angle, food safety problem has become more and more serious. From 2011 to 2013, times of incidents, numbers of people and enterprise involved, and losses caused by these issues all increased with incredible

As the saying goes: Food is the first necessity of the people. Therefore, food safety is the first priority for all of us.
As far as I am concerned, it is wise to treat this problem in a dialectical way. It is because of the requirement of our improved state of life that has led people to pay more and more attention to food quality and safety issues.
