Fill in each of the blanks with the word or words you have heard on the tape. Write your answer in the corresponding space in your ANSWER BOOKLET. Remember you will hear the passage ONLY ONCE.听力原文:Global warming? You may accept or reject those who say it is a dangerous phenomenon. Hut if the planet is warming, and humanity is contributing to it, shouldn’t someone be thinking about solutions? If the Earth is, in fact, engaged in a long-term warming cycle? And if humanity is partly responsible—can it be reversed? Possible solutions to global warming range from the simple to the complex, from changing a light bulb to engineering giant reflectors in space. The most talked about solutions involve expanded use of alternative energy technologies, and less reliance on fossil fuels. V olcanoes, forest fires, ocean and atmospheric variability are natural occurrences that change climate conditions. Might nature correct the warming trend itself? Climate scientists say that it seems very unlikely. Science doesn’t give us certainties. Science gives us likelihood. We think that it’s likely that climate warming of the last few decades isn’t due to the usual causes such as changes in the Earth’s orbit, changes in the sun, volcanoes, but it’s due primarily to humans adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. John Topping of the nonprofit Climate Institute says it will be private industry, not governments, coming up with solutions. He argues that we need to get investment flows going in the direction of emerging clean energy technologies and part of that’s going to happen because we, as consumers, step forward and we are conscious in our buying habits to get more energy-efficient products. Higher gas prices are making fuel-efficient vehicles more attractive to consumers. Building and home constructions are becoming more energy efficient. Climate change is a huge challenge. But climate change also provides an opportunity for countries to really further themselves, and the only way to advance much globally, is to look at approaches that protect the environment at the same time that they promote equitable economic growth. Wider application of renewable energy resources could reduce greenhouse gases and offset global warming. Some scientists are suggesting grander solutions, involving rearranging Earth’s environment: building huge sunshades in space, for example, tinkering with clouds to make them reflect more sunlight, perhaps tricking oceans into soaking up more heat trapping gases.Global warming? And he told me about this woman who hypnotized him, and he quit, and there was no pain at all! And so I just decided to give it a try. And it really worked! M: Great! W: Yeah, it worked for me. I had four treatments, and by the end of the fourth treatment, I had completely lost the urge to smoke. M: Why do you think this method finally worked for you after you’d tried so many times to quit?W: I think, you know, all the other times that I’d tried to quit there had been a part of me that wanted to keep smoking, you know? And I just had to reach the point where I was just ready. M: Um-huh. Now, your son. How old is he now? W: He’s twelve.M: How does he feel about cigarettes? W: He hated it when I smoked, he hated the smell, he was afraid for my health. He used to put messages in my cigarette pack in my pocket saying, “Quit smoking, Mom,” so that when I’d smoke I’d find them. M: Yeah?W: So he was really happy when 1 stopped smoking.M: And how do you feel physically? How did you feel after you quit smoking? W: The big thing I noticed, and I have a friend who quit at the same time and she noticed it too, is I just had so much more energy. M: Huh. W: And the second thing I noticed was smells. My sense of smell came back and I really liked being able to smell things again. M: Did food tastebetter? W: Oh, food tasted much better! Yeah. M: Anything else you wanna add? W : Um, the money! M. Ah! W: Uh, cigarettes are really expensive. When I quit, I calculated exactly how much it would cost to smoke for a year, at that time I was spending $ 4. 50 a pack, and when I quit, I put the money in a savings account. And at the end of one year, I went out and bought myself and my son mountain bikes to celebrate our anniversary. M: That’s great. W: And I’ve just kept doing that for three years, and every year I use the money for something healthy to make our lives more fun.(405 words)Question No. 1 What are the two speakers talking about?Question No.2 How many treatments did Rachel have to achieve her purpose?Question No.3 What kind of treatment helped Rachel quit smoking?Question No.4 Which of the following statements is probably TRUE with Rachel?Question No.5 For how many years has Rachel stayed off cigarettes?21.A.Quitting drinking.B.Treating drug addiction.C.Getting rid of smoking.D.Hypnotizing for medical purposes.正确答案:C22.A.Four.B.Five.C.Six.D.Unknown.正确答案:A23.A.Acupuncture.B.Hypnotization.C.Psychotherapy.D.Physiotherapy.正确答案:B24.A.She lives with her husband and two daughters.B.She has been married for just a couple of years.C.She’s a full-time housewife with no kids.D.She’s a single mother with a 12-year-old son.正确答案:D25.A.Three.B.Two.C.One.D.Half a year.正确答案:A听力原文:Berlin, Germany—Germany’s economic growth in the past year was largely driven by overseas trade, according to official statistics. The German economy grew by 0. 4% in the past year compared with the previous year, the German statistics agency said, confirming its earlier estimate. Foreign trade drove the increase, accounting for 1. 1 percentage points of the rise in gross domestic product. However, weak domestic demand cut 0. 7 percentage points from the figure. The balance of exports and imports was the “key economic engine in the period”, the statistics office said. Despite the weak domestic demand at the end of last year, economists said they now expected it to pick up. High job security and rising incomes as well as very low inflation have been boosting consumer confidence to record highs lately and should translate into stronger household spending growth in 2014. New York, The United States—Twitter’s share price had more than doubled in value since the company was floated on the stock market in November, when it was valued at around 18 billion dollars, said in a statement recently released by the company. Twitter pledged to continue to improve its services to advertisers in the hope of growing revenues further. Twitter brings in money largely by selling advertising space and data on tweeting habits. More than 90% of its revenues last year came from advertising, where advertisers pay to have their tweets promoted and appear in users’feeds. Three-quarters of advertising income comes from mobile platforms like smart-phones, the company said. Canberra, Australia—Toyota Motor Corp issued a statement on Monday saying it would stop making cars and engines in Australia by the end of 2017, marking the end of an era for a once-vibrant auto production base and the loss of thousands of direct and indirect jobs.Toyota’s decision follows the planned exits of General Motors and Ford Motor announced last year and would leave no global automaker remaining in Australia as high costs and a strong currency make it an unattractive production base. About 2,500 jobs will be affected when the plant stops building cars in 2017, the company said. Rome, Italy —Italian unemployment is more than twice the average rate in the euro-zone. The number of people out of work in the single currency bloc in December was 19 million, with the jobless rate at 12%, according to official EU figures. Other economic figures such as retail sales, manufacturing activity and construction, have pointed to signs that Italy’s recession has bottomed out. However, Italy’s unemployment rate is expected to rise further in the first three months of 2014 as firms continue to restructure and cut jobs. “As expected, the labor market showed a lagging reaction to other positive signs in the economy,” said some economists at National Bank in Rome. With 1. 38 million people officially jobless, turning around the country’s economywill take time, even if the recovery does start this year as Rome hopes. Washington, The United States—The woman accused of killing six people in a horrific crash in California was spotted driving the wrong way on two freeways before she drove her BMW at 100mph into a Ford Explorer, the California Highway Patrol says. At least 17 witnesses called 911 before the crash to report seeing the vehicle on the 57 and 60 freeways early Sunday morning, reports the Los Angeles Times. The driver, 21-year-old Olivia Brown, is still in hospital and has been charged with six counts of murder. She has a previous drunk driving conviction and was on a “girls’ night out”when the deadly crash occurred. Her two passengers, one of them her sister, were killed along with all four people in the Explorer.Question No. 6 What was Germany’s economic growth rate in the past year?Question No. 7 How much of Twitter’s income came from advertising last year according to the company’s statement? One such veteran is famed artist and writer, Paul Phillips. It was archetypal for Paul Phillips to start his professional career in the comics field in the early ‘90s, but unlike many of his contemporaries, he continues to improve on the lessons of his youth, producing works of increasing complexity and depth. Here in the studio with us today we have Mr. Paul Phillips. First of all, Paul, thank you for taking the time to talk with us. Let’s start with a modicum of biographical info. Where and when were you born?M: Oxford, late 1965.W: How early did you exhibit an interest for drawing? Was there anything else you wanted to do growing up?M: I’ve always drawn. My father insists that he gave me an “art lesson”when I was four years old, and was surprised that I could draw better than he could. With encouragement like that, it was a done deal.W: What type of training did you undergo in preparation for your career as an artist?M: When I was very young, I developed a training method that taught me a great appreciation for different art styles. I found some tracing paper and decided to place it over comics drawn by Neal Adams, Jack Kirby, and Frank Springer. For some reason, I decided that, rather than just tracing, I should use the underlying drawings as a skeletal structure. I decided that I would try to interpret the stylistically disparate drawings in a style of my own. What this taught me was that these artists each had unique strengths, and each one had a different thing to teach me. I also drew what 1 saw on the black and white horror films that f loved. Later, I checked out hundreds of books from the local libraries…anything that contained art. It could be French or Russian poster art, or photo collages, or Renaissance painters. I eventually took courses in college.W: Was it helpful? If so, which parts prepared you the most?M: It was all helpful. Actually, I think that the best thing you can do is study EVERYTHING around you. There are art lessons everywhere, in classrooms and out.W: Was your family supportive of your decision to be an artist?M: My family was very encouraging, especially my mother, who had wanted to be a commercial artist herself. She was constantly creating something, whether it was a painting or some craftwork.W: So you’ve been dedicated to art ever since you were a small kid?M:Well, when my mother passed away, I decided to concentrate on the “real world” for a while. I bought a trailer and took on a full time job in a grocery store as a department manager, and two part time jobs. I cooked pizzas at one job, and at another I played a minor role in a drama society. I actually had a fourth job, doing a cartoon for a local newspaper, but that was the only art-related job I did.W: I’m afraid time is up for this part of our program. Let’s continue after the commercial break. Please don’t go away.Question No. 11 When did Paul Phillips begin his professional career in the comics field? Question No. 12 In his early childhood, what did Paul Phillips do to make his father surprised? Question No. 13 Which of the following could be concluded about the man’s art education? Question No. 14 What did Paul say about her mother?Question No. 15 When Paul decided to concentrate on the “real world”for a while, he took several jobs. Which of the following was NOT one of these jobs?31.A.In his early childhood.B.In late 1965.C.In the early ‘90s.D.In the 21st century.正确答案:C32.A.The boy had sold one of his paintings.B.The boy had found a special training method.C.The boy could give his father an art lesson.D.The boy could draw better than his father.正确答案:D33.A.He learnt a variety of artistic styles and created one of his own.B.He copied paintings of different artistic styles by way of tracing.C.He taught himself painting using methods that are different from others’.D.He had been tutored by an artist when he was only four years old.正确答案:A34.A.She was a commercial artist all her life.B.She was constantly creating something.C.She was not as encouraging as her husband.D.She outlived her husband for five years.正确答案:B35.A.Working with a grocery store.B.Cooking pizza.C.Acting in a drama.D.Editing a newspaper.正确答案:D听力原文:Good morning, everyone. I’m going to give a brief summary of the transition from export marketing to global marketing. Basically, there are three phases in this transition. These are: export marketing, international marketing, and global marketing. Let’s describe the first phase, which is export marketing. Export marketing has four main characteristics. First, with export marketing there is home-based production and home-based management. Secondly, there is direct selling to the export markets. Next, it’s common to use agents and distributors. Finally, it’s possible that there arc sales centers in overseas markets. Overall, the investment costs are low with export marketing because almost everything, especially production and management, is still centered on the home base. Now let’s look at the second phase, international marketing. Here I identify three main characteristics. The first is that production has expanded to overseas markets. This is very important. Next, there is local management. This means you have local cost centers, individually responsible for making a profit. Finally, there is much more local employment of staff and management. Altogether, this means there is more investment, so investment with international marketing is high. Now we come to the third phase, which is global marketing, with at least four main characteristics. The most important is that the brand name, or brand names, are international, like IBM or Coca-Cola. Secondly, the business is established in all major world markets. This means, and this is the third point, that the business has a global identity. Next, the business has cost centers in all major markets. The fourth and final point is that the production is often complex, with parts made and transported all over the world between various centers. An example here is a laptop, where perhaps the chips, the circuit board, the case, the screen, the packaging, the documentation, are all made in different locations around the world. Maybe Singapore, Brazil, Italy or South Africa. The result is that the global marketing phase involves very high levels of investment, higher than the other two phases. That is a good summary of the stages between export marketing and global marketing. Does anyone have any questions or need clarification on any point?Question No. 16 What’s the main topic of this talk?Question No. 17 Which of the following is TRUE with the phase of export marketing?Question No. 18 What do we know about the phase of international marketing?Question No. 19 What is the most important characteristic of global marketing?Question No. 20 Which of the following phases involves the highest levels of investment?36.A.Globalization and exporting activities.B.Different types of overseas markets.C.Different relationships between export and import.D.The transition from export marketing to global marketing.正确答案:D37.A.The overall investment costs are low.B.It is common to use agents, but not distributers.C.All sales centers are in home markets.D.Management is centered on the overseas base.正确答案:A38.A.The investment is not so high as export marketing.B.There is much more employment of home management.C.Production has expanded to overseas markets.D.Local management is not responsible for making a profit.正确答案:C39.A.The business is established in all major world markets.B.The brand name or names are international.C.The business has a global identity.D.The business has cost centers all over the world.正确答案:B40.A.Export marketing.B.International marketing.C.Global marketing.D.It’s not mentioned in the talk.正确答案:CSECTION 2 READING TESTDirections: In this section you will read several passages. Each one is followed by several questions about it. You are to choose ONE best answer, A, B, C or D, to each question. Answer all the questions following each passage on the basis of what is stated or implied in that passage and write tile letter of the answer you have chosen in the corresponding space in your ANSWER BOOKLET.Since a gigantic Sainsbury is my local corner shop, I have a purseful of those coupons: “Here’s £l. 45 off your next visit”, etc. But lately I’ve felt 1 deserve another voucher: “Here’s a tax rebate on the cash you pay our low-paid workers so they can subsist. “The chances are they couldn’t get by without you. A survey of Sainsbury employees by Unite last year found that 60% relied upon government working tax credits to top up their salaries. Even so, in the previous six months, a third had resorted to borrowing money to settle their bills. Low pay is always seen as a leftie, bleeding-heart issue. Poor oppressed workers. Aux barricades! Rather it should raise the blood pressure of every taxpayer. The constant conniptions of supermarkets competing for market share, discounting their rivals, fighting off the German upstarts Aldi and Lidl, distract from the fact that they are vastly wealthy. Sainsbury’s underlying profits for 2012-13 were £758 million: these have trebled in a decade. Who could begrudge Sainsbury’s new CEO Mike Coupe his £900,000 basic salary, if only he paid all his 157,000 retail staff enough to live on without you and me chipping in? But he doesn’t and, bizarrely, no one is inclined to make him. V oters abhor a high welfare bill or the notion that benefits arc rising faster than wages. But if the chancellor wanted to take £300 a year from every low-paid household, £490 from families with children, could he not at least have added: “I call upon our friends in business to make up the difference: to help cut the welfare bill, by paying all their employees a living wage. “ Because the problem is not just soaring welfare but stagnating wages. For the first time in British history, the majority of those classified in poverty already have jobs. In the last decade, food bills have increased by 44% , energy costs more than doubled, but even now that the economy has rallied, wages have barely picked up. Now 5. 2 million of the workforce are paid below a rate at which decent life is sustainable. And since, without government support, families on minimum wage would barely be able to feed their children, in-work benefits cost taxpayers £28 billion a year. During the Tory and Labour conferences, much was said about “political disconnect”—the angry distrust voters feel towards the major Westminster parties. It was ascribed to ideological differences on Europe. But deep down, it’s about money, stupid. Life is a trudge and people see no one capable of lightening their step. The idea that prosperity should be shared, increased productivity linked to wages, fell apart in the 1980s. As Warren Buffett said recently, the class war was won “by my class, the rich class”. Employees know that even low-paid jobs are precious, that if they contemplate something as audaciously retro as striking, a pool of labour could rush to take their place. Companies relish their upper hand, play the austerity card during pay rounds even now times are better. When the retailer Next was asked why, despite record profits, its wages were still below the living wage, it replied that since 30 people applied for every job advertised, how could it be paying too little? While the executive googles ski-breaks in Verbier, the cleaner emptying his bin walks to work to save on bus fares. The low-paid don’t merely have less stuff: they have less stable relationships and weaker health. Are their struggles invisible to those who pay their terrible salaries, or do they not care? I was encouraged to read in the report by the Living Wage Commission that not all lack heart. Sir John Bond, then chairman of HSBC, was moved by a speech from a Canary Wharf cleaner. Boththen introduced the living wage. Indeed Guy Stallard of KPMG, whose company has paid it since 2006, says staff turnover is lower and morale up. Give people the means to be fully human and they will be loyal. Now eight companies on the FTSE 100 index pay the living wage. But in retail, which has the biggest proportion of low-paid workers, not a single high street name has signed up. These days our only political muscle is as consumers, choosing Fairtrade, making ethical investments. And there would be great kudos for the first of the big four supermarkets who stopped sitting on its mega-profits while adding staff wage bills to the welfare tab.41.Why does the author say that low pay of supermarket workers “should raise the blood pressure of every taxpayer”(para. 1)?A.Because the low-paid workers would pay less income tax.B.Because the tax office would give them more tax credits.C.Because the supermarket employees could only get by with customers.D.Because taxpayers would have to pay more for their in-work benefits.正确答案:D42.What does the author imply when she says that “the majority of those classified in poverty already have jobs” for the first time in British history(para. 3)?A.Unemployment remains a major issue in the U. K.B.Employment is the key to eradicate poverty.C.Instead of unemployment, low wages become the major issue.D.Social welfare is always connected to employees’ income.正确答案:C43.The author introduced Warren Buffet in paragraph 4 to illustrate that______.A.a company’s success is mainly attributable to its top executivesB.workers’ wages are no longer closely related to increased productivityC.in the Western world today the rich people win the war against the poorD.people with low pay should not resort to striking正确答案:C44.What is the argument of the retailer Next?A.As too many people applied for every job advertised, the pay could not be low.B.Record profits have already shown that workers got their living wage.C.If fewer people apply for jobs advertised, then they will consider raising salaries.D.The retailer has to play the austerity card even in better time.。

当我长大了想成一名画家英文作文

当我长大了想成一名画家英文作文When I Grow Up I Want to Be an ArtistEver since I was a tiny kid, I've loved drawing, painting, and making art. My mom says I started scribbling on the walls with crayons before I could even talk! As I got older, I discovered my passion for art and creativity. Now that I'm in elementary school, I know for sure that when I grow up, I want to be an artist.Being an artist means you get to use your imagination every single day. You can create new worlds, tell stories, and express your emotions through colors, shapes, and textures. To me, that sounds like the best job ever! I dream of having my own big art studio one day, with huge windows letting in lots of natural light. The walls would be covered with my paintings and there would be shelves overflowing with art supplies like paints, brushes, pastels, charcoal, clay, and more. I'd spend my days dreaming up new ideas and turning them into beautiful works of art.My favorite kind of art is painting, especially with acrylics and watercolors. There's something so freeing about dipping my brush into vibrant pools of color and then watching the pigments blend and flow across the canvas. I love experimenting with different painting techniques like splattering, washing, anddry brushing to create unique textures and effects. Whenever I finish a new painting, I feel such a sense of pride and accomplishment. "I made that!" I think to myself, hardly able to believe it.Sometimes I imagine what it would be like to be a famous artist someday, with my artwork displayed in galleries and museums. People from all over the world would travel to see my paintings and marvel at the stories I've told through my art. How cool would it be to have people analyze the deeper meanings and symbolism in my work? To be interviewed about my process and inspiration? I'd get to attend fancy art openings and receptions, all dressed up in a smock covered in streaks of dried paint. Sophisticated adults would discuss and critique my pieces using impressive art terminology that I don't understand yet, but someday I will.Right now, I'm trying my hand at every art form I can - painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking, collage - so I can figure out what my strengths are. I think I'd make an awesome painter, but I also really enjoying working with clay so maybe I'll be a sculptor instead. Or I could illustrate children's books with my drawings and doodles! I'm keeping my options open because there are so many potential paths I could take as an artist. No matter what art medium I ultimately specialize in, I know for certain that art will always be a huge part of my life. My dream job would allow me to be creative and make the world a little more beautiful and interesting, one painting, sculpture, or illustration at a time. It's going to take a ton of hard work and perseverance to make my artistic dreams come true, but I'm willing to put in the effort. I'm constantly practicing, taking art classes, visiting museums and galleries to study the masters, and working on building my skills.Sometimes kids tease me for being the "art freak" or ask why I waste my time on "silly drawings" instead of playing sports or video games. But those comments just motivate me even more to prove them wrong someday. True artists pour their hearts and souls into their work, expressing emotions and ideas that words alone could never capture. It takes incredible skill, imagination, and vulnerability to create meaningful art that connects with people on a deep level. And that's exactly the kind of artist I aspire to be.I know the life of an artist isn't easy. It will be challenging and filled with ups and downs, self-doubt, criticism, and lots of time spent alone making art. But those obstacles are all worth it to me because art is my greatest passion and biggest dream. Creatingart gives me a sense of joy, freedom, and peace that I can't find anywhere else. To be able to make art as a career would be a privilege and an honor. So that's my grand plan - when I grow up, I'm going to move to a beautiful city that inspires me creatively, like Paris or Venice or New York. I'll have a lovely little artist's flat with a spacious studio occupying the entire top floor. Every day, I'll wake up excited to pursue my passion, fill up blank canvases, and add more color and beauty to this world through my art.。
绘画能够很好的提高孩子审美能力的英语作文

绘画能够很好的提高孩子审美能力的英语作文Painting is the Best Way to Become an Art Master!Hi there! My name is Jenny and I'm 10 years old. I absolutely love painting and drawing more than anything else in the whole world. Ever since I was a tiny little kid, I've been obsessed with colors, shapes, and making beautiful pictures. My parents say I was doodling on the walls with crayon before I could even talk! When I started elementary school, my favorite class was always art. I would get so excited for art day each week. While the other kids would whine about having to paint or draw, I was jumping up and down ready to create a masterpiece! My art teacher, Mrs. Robinson, was the best. She taught me all about different painting techniques like watercolors, acrylics, and using brushes properly. At first, my paintings didn't look like much. They were just messy splatters of color or weird blobby shapes. But Mrs. Robinson never made me feel bad. She said "Jenny, the most important thing is to have fun and express yourself through your art!" She was right - the more I practiced painting, the better I got at it. Pretty soon, my paintings started looking more realistic and vibrant. Now that I'm older, I've really started to understand how important painting is for kids like me. It's not just fun and games - painting helps kids develop all sorts of important skills! Here are some of the main reasons why I think ALL kids should paint and draw as much as possible:Painting improves creativity and imagination. When you're staring at a blank canvas, it allows your mind to wander and think of new, creative ideas to put on the paper. You have to use your imagination to mix colors, decide what shapes to paint, and bring your ideas to life. Without painting, it's hard for kids to exercise this creative muscle! It boosts focus and concentration. Have you ever gotten so into a painting that you became oblivious to everything else around you? That's called being "in the zone" and it happens to me all the time with art. Painting for long periods requires intense focus and concentration to get all the details right. This focus helps strengthen kids' attention spans.Painting develops fine motor skills. Using different brush strokes, gripping a pencil properly, and smearing colors together might seem simple, but it actually involves very precise and complex hand-eye coordination. The repetitive motions ofpainting reinforce these fine motor skills that kids need for writing, getting dressed, and many other tasks. It provides an outlet for emotions. Painting is a powerful way for kids to express their feelings in a positive way. If I'm feeling mad, sad, hyper, or anything else, I can channel those emotions into my artwork instead of acting out. Making art helps release tension and process big feelings that kids might struggle to put into words.Painting improves appreciation for art and beauty. The more I learn about different painting styles, color theory, shading, and techniques, the more I can recognize and appreciate true artistic talent when I see it. Now when I look at famous paintings or even just the beauty in nature, I have a much deeper understanding and admiration for the incredible skill it takes to capture that on canvas. Those are just a few of the reasons why painting is so amazing and beneficial, especially for kids. I could go on and on, but I don't want this essay to become a giant novel! Just know that through painting, I've become a more creative thinker, a better focus-er (is that a word?), I have awesome hand skills, I've learned how to express my feelings productively, and I can finally understand why people go crazy over art galleries and museums. If you're a kid who hasn't really tried painting before, I highly encourage you to start. It might feel frustrating and messy at first, but stick with it! Ask your parents for some basic art supplies like paints, brushes, paper, and let your imagination run wild. You'd be amazed at what you can create. Or see if your school has an art club you can join to learn from a teacher like my wonderful Mrs. Robinson.Who knows, maybe painting will become your favorite hobby too! You could even grow up to be a famous artist selling million dollar masterpieces... but you'll always be my friend, right? Just kidding! As long as you're using your creative talents and appreciating the beauty of art, that's what really matters.Painting has enriched my life in so many ways. It's not just messy kid stuff - it's a pathway to developing all kinds of cognitive abilities while expressing yourself in a unique way. So go out there and get painting, kids! Let's make this world a more colorful, creative, focused, and appreciation-filled place, one brushstroke at a time.。

我的高中计划的英语作文80词左右全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My High School PlanHi there! I'm just a kid in elementary school, but I already have big dreams and plans for high school! I know it's still a few years away, but I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do and experience when I get there.First off, I really want to join lots of clubs and activities. High school seems to have so many cool options - I've heard about things like drama club, robotics team, art club, and even clubs for video games or anime! I love trying new things, so I'm hoping I can sample as many different activities as possible. Maybe I'll discover a new passion or hidden talent!I also really want to play sports in high school. Right now, I love playing soccer, basketball, and running track. I'm going to try my best to make the school teams for those sports. Even if I don't make the top teams right away, I'll keep practicing hard. Playing sports is awesome exercise, helps build teamwork skills, and is just super fun!Academics will be important too, of course. I'm a pretty good student now, but I know high school will be much harder. I'll have to stay focused and work really hard on all my classes - math, science, English, history, and everything else. Good grades are crucial for getting into a great college later on. I'm hoping I can take some interesting electives too, like coding, psychology, or drama.Speaking of college, I'll definitely need to start thinking about that in high school as well. I'm not totally sure yet what I want to study or what career I want. But I know I'll need to prepare by taking the right classes, getting good test scores, and starting to research colleges that could be a good fit for my interests. It's pretty overwhelming to think about now, but I have a few more years to figure it out!High school social life is something I'm really looking forward to as well. I've heard there are lots of fun dances, pep rallies, and other events to attend. I'll finally be one of the "big kids" on campus instead of the little elementary student. Hopefully I can make a ton of new friends and have plenty of awesome memories and adventures with them. Though I know I'll also have to be careful about peer pressure and make smart, responsible choices.Overall, I have a million dreams for high school. I want to explore new interests, make wonderful memories, develop as a student and person, and set myself up for future success in college and life. It will be challenging for sure, but also amazing. I can't wait for that exciting new chapter! I'll cherish my last couple years of elementary school, then hit the ground running when I finally start high school. The countdown is on!篇2My High School PlansI can't wait until I get to high school! It seems like a million years from now, but I'm already making big plans. High school is going to be so awesome and fun.First off, I really want to join a ton of clubs and activities. My friends' older siblings are in things like student government, drama club, band, and sports teams. That all sounds super cool to me. I'll definitely try out for the baseball team because I'm a great pitcher. And I'm going to join the drama club too because I love acting and putting on silly plays and skits for my family.Being in clubs will help make me become a well-rounded person, which is important for getting into a good college lateron. I've already started researching which colleges I want to try to get into. My top three choices right now are Harvar篇3My High School PlanHi there! My name is Emma and I'm in 8th grade. I want to take a bunch of challenging classes like AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP English Literature. Those AP classes seem hard but I know they'll prepare me really well for college. I'm going to have to study my butt off but it will be worth it. I definitely want to maintain an A average all through high school. Grades are so key for getting into a great university.Speaking of college, that's my biggest goal for high school - getting into my dream school. I've had my heart set on UCLA ever since I was a little kid. Both my parents went there and I just love the campus, the academics, the sports teams, everything!I'm going to work relentlessly on my applications, essays, extracurriculars...whatever it takes to make my application standout. Maybe I'll even take the SAT a few times to try and get a perfect score. UCLA is the dream!Sports are also a huge part of what I'm looking forward to. I've played soccer since I was 5 and definitely plan on trying out for the varsity soccer team. Representing my high school on the field would be such an honor. And just being part of a team, having that camaraderie and motivation from teammates, that drives me to work harder. I'm going to train like crazy so I can be the best player I can be. Who knows, maybe I'll even be good enough to play in college! There are so many other things I can't wait for too - going to prom, getting my driver's license, making memories with friends that'll last forever. These are going to be some of the best years of my life! Of course, I'm sure there will be challenges too. High school is depicted as rough in all the movies. I'll probably have to pull a few all-nighters cramming for tests. Or have my heart broken a few times. Or struggle to pick the right college. But I'll get through it all.High school is just a stepping stone toward the rest of my life. It'll prepare me for college, for adulthood, for the real world.I want to take advantage of every opportunity - academically, socially, athletically. Explore all my interests and discover newpassions. Make mistakes and learn from them. Just soak in all the lessons and experiences. When I walk across that stage at graduation, I know I'll be ready for whatever comes next. UCLA, here I come! Well, as long as I get in that is. I'm definitely signing up for video game design - imagine getting credits for playing games all day! And you better believe I'll be inthat comic book literature class. We'll read all the best superhero stories and analyze them. Maybe I'll even write and draw my own comic for a project!Speaking of projects, high school will be full of awesome hands-on learning activities. No more just sitting at a desk listening to teachers drone on and on. We'll get to do experiments in science labs, build things in shop class, and go on exciting field trips to Museums and state parks. I can't wait to get my hands dirty and my brain fired up!Then there areall the awesome social events like pep rallies, dances, and prom! Can you imagine how cool prom will be? Renting a fancy tux, arriving in a limo, dancing the night away with all my friends. It's going to be just like those high school movies, but even better because it will be my real life! And you can't forget about all the great new people I'll get to meet and become friends with. Sure, I'll still hang out with my elementary school buds. But think of all the awesome new kids from other schools that will be there. I'll get to expand my friend group and who knows, I might even meet my future boyfriend or girlfriend! There will be challenges too, of course. I've heard the workload really piles up with way more homework and studyingthan I'm used to now. I may be just a kid, but I've got BIG plans for when I get to high school!I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and I've got it all figured out. Well, sort of. But I'm pretty sure my plans are awesome!First off, I'm gonna study really hard and get straight A's in all my classes. I know, I know, that sounds super boring. But hear me out! Good grades will help me get into a great college later on. And colleges are where you go to learn really cool things that can lead to your dream job. I'm not totally sure what I want to be yet, but I've got a few ideas bouncing around in my head. One option is to become a scientist! How awesome would it be to make mind-blowing discoveries or invent amazing new gadgets? I could be the one to find the cure for a terrible disease or create a car that runs on fresh air instead of gas. Just imagine how many people I could help with cool science stuff like that! Of course, I'd need to take lots of math, chemistry, and physics classes to prepare for that career path. Yikes, that's a lot of tough subjects. Maybe I'll have to re-think this option...Or maybe I could be a famous artist or musician instead? I love drawing and playing my guitar. It would be so much fun to perform in front of huge crowds of adoring fans! Although, dealing with crazy obsessed fans does seem a little scary. And the path to art stardom is really competitive from what I've heard. Hmm...decisions, decisions. You know what sounds really cool though? BEING AN ASTRONAUT! I could travel to outer space and walk on the moonor even Mars. How epic would that be?! I'd get to pilot a rocket ship, conduct experiments in zero gravity, and glimpse incredible views of Earth. Sign me up for THAT please! Buuuut...I may need to overcome my fear of heights first. Baby steps, Timmy, baby steps. No matter what career I decide to chase, there's one thing I know for sure - I'm going to get super involved in all the fun clubs and activities my high school offers. I wanna play sports, join the band, do theater, write for the school newspaper, volunteer for community service projects, you name it! High school is gonna be an exciting time to explore new interests and try out different hobbies. Who knows, I might even discover a hidden talent I never knew I had.Speaking of socializing, I totally plan to make a zillion new friends in high school too! Expanding my friend group will be fantastic. I love meeting new people with different backgrounds, interests, and perspectives. We can swap stories, share laughs, and lean on each other when life gets tough. Hopefully my high school will have a really welcoming, inclusive environment where it's easy to befriend all sorts of different peeps. There's just so much to look forward to - football games, dances, rallies, grad night! Ahh I can't wait! Four years may seemlike a long time, but I have a feeling high school will fly by in the blink of an eye. I'll need to savor every moment and make tons of awesome memories that I can look back on with pride years from now.So that's my game plan for now - study hard, explore interests, make friends, and soak up as many incredible experiences as I can. Who knows where my high school journey will ultimately lead? Only one way to find out! For now, it's back to conquering elementary school. But just you wait high school, this guy's coming for ya! Woo!篇6My Big Plans for High SchoolHi there! My name is Tommy and I'm in 5th grade. I've been thinking a lot about high school lately and I have some really big plans! High school is going to be so awesome and I can't wait to get there.First up, I'm going to join a ton of clubs and activities. My big brother is in the Drama Club and he's always talking about how much fun it is putting on plays and stuff. That sounds super cool, so I definitely want to do that. I also really want to play sports. All the high school sports teams look so epic with their uniformsand cheering crowds. I'm a pretty good baseball player, so I think I'll try out for the baseball team for sure. But I also want to try some new sports too, like football or soccer. It would be so much fun to learn a new sport and be part of that kind of team.Speaking of teams, I'm really excited to make a whole bunch of new friends in high school too. My neighborhood friends are okay, but we've all known each other since we were little kids. In high school, you get to meet so many new people from all over the place. I can't wait to find the kids who like the same games, movies, and other stuff as me. We can start awesome friend groups and do fun things together like go to the movies, play video games, or just hang out. Having a big group of friends who really get you sounds amazing. One of the things I'm most pumped about for high school is finally getting my own locker. Can you believe elementary schools don't even have lockers? We just have to carry our stuff around in backpacks like babies. But in high school, you get your own personal locker to stock with supplies, snacks, and make your own personal decorations for. Having my own locker, right next to my friends' lockers, that I can customize and do whatever I want with? That's going to be so freaking awesome.I also can't wait to go to high school events like football games, dances, and pep rallies. The high school always has the biggest, most insane pep rallies where everyone is cheering and the cheerleaders and mascots do crazy stunts. And how cool would it be to go to a real high school dance?? Okay, so maybe I'll feel a little awkward trying to dance at first. But it looks like such a blast in all the movies, with the music and the fancy decorations and trying to look your best for your crush. Just thinking about getting all dressed up and going to a high school dance with a date gets me so excited!More than anything though, I'm just thrilled about getting to experience a whole new world in high school. A world with so many more freedoms, choices, activities, and opportunities compared to elementary school. It's going to be challenging for sure, but I can't wait to spread my wings, try new things, and really figure out who I am and what I want in life. I have so many big dreams and I know high school is going to help me start making them a reality. This is just the beginning of my journey and I can't wait to see where it leads! Bring it on, high school!。

Really Straight Drawings I:Planar Graphs∗Dedicated to Godfried Toussaint on his60th birthday.Vida Dujmovi´c†David Eppstein‡Matthew Suderman§David R.Wood¶July28,2005AbstractWe study straight-line drawings of planar graphs with few segments and few slopes.Optimal results are obtained for all trees.Tight bounds are obtained for outerplanargraphs,2-trees,and planar3-trees.We prove that every3-connected plane graph on nvertices has a plane drawing with at most5n/2segments and at most2n slopes. We provethat every cubic3-connected plane graph has a plane drawing with three slopes(and threebends on the outerface). In a companion paper, drawings of non-planar graphs with fewslopes are also considered.†School of Computer Science,Carleton University,Ottawa,Ontario,Canada(vida@scs.carleton.ca). Such a mapping is a(straight-line)drawing if each edge does not intersect any vertex, except for its own endpoints.By a segment in a drawing,we mean a maximal set of edges that form a line segment. The slope of a line L is the angle swept from the X-axis in an anticlockwise direction to L(and is thus in[0,π)).The slope of an edge or segment is the slope of the line that extends it.Of course two edges have the same slope if and only if they are parallel.A crossing in a drawing is a pair of edges that intersect at some point other than a common endpoint.A drawing is plane if it has no crossings.A plane graph is a planar graph with a fixed combinatorial embedding and a specified outerface. We emphasise that a plane drawing of a plane graph must preserve the embedding and outerface. That every plane graph has a plane drawing is a famous result independently due to Wagner[24]and F´a ry[11].In this paper we prove lower and upper bounds on the minimum number of segments and slopes in(plane)drawings of graphs. In a companion paper[9],we consider drawings of non-planar graphs with few slopes.A summary of our results is given in Table1.A number of comments are in order when considering these results:•The minimum number of slopes in a drawing of(plane)graph G is at most the minimum number of segments in a drawing of G.•Upper bounds for plane graphs are stronger than for planar graphs, since for planar graphs one has the freedom to choose the embedding and outerface. On the other hand, lower bounds for planar graphs are stronger than for plane graphs.•Deleting an edge in a drawing cannot increase the number of slopes, whereas it can increase the number of segments. Thus, the upper bounds for slopes are applicable to all subgraphs of the mentioned graph families, unlike the upper bounds for segments. The paper is organised as follows. In Section3we prove some elementary lower bounds on the number of segments and slopes in a drawing. In Section4we consider drawings with two or three slopes, and conclude that it is N P-complete to determine whether a graph has a plane drawing on two slopes.Section5studies plane drawings of graphs with small treewidth. In particular,we consider trees, outerplanar graphs,2-trees,and planar3-trees.For any tree,we construct a plane2Table1:Summary of results(ignoring additive constants). Here n is the number of vertices,ηis the number of vertices of odd degree, and∆is the maximum degree. The lower bounds are existential, except for trees, for which the lower bounds are universal.graph family#segments#slopes≥≤≥≤treesη/2η/2 ∆/2 ∆/2maximal outerplanar n n-nplane2-trees2n2n2n2nplane3-trees2n2n2n2nplane2-connected5n/2-2n-planar2-connected2n-n-plane3-connected2n5n/22n2nplanar3-connected2n5n/2n2nplane3-connected cubic-n+233drawing with the minimum number of segments and the minimum number of slopes. For outerplanar graphs,2-trees,and planar3-trees,we determine bounds on the minimum number of segments and slopes that are tight in the worst-case.Section6studies plane drawings of3-connected plane and planar graphs. In the case of slope-minimisation for plane graphs we obtain a bound that is tight in the worst case. However, our lower bound examples have linear maximum degree. We drastically improve the upper bound in the case of cubic graphs. We prove that every3-connected plane cubic graph has a plane drawing with three slopes, except for three edges on the outerface that have their own slope. As a corollary we prove that every3-connected plane cubic graph has a plane‘drawing’with three slopes and three bends on the outerface. We now review some related work from the literature.Plane orthogonal drawings with two slopes(and few bends)have been extensively studied [1,2,17–23].For example,Ungar[23]proved that every cyclically4-edge-connected plane cubic graph has a plane drawing with two slopes and four bends on the outerface. Thus our result for3-connected plane cubic graphs(Corollary4)nicely complements this theorem of Ungar.Contact and intersection graphs of segments in the plane with few slopes is an interesting line of research. The intersection graph of a set of segments has one vertex for each segment, and two vertices are adjacent if and only if the corresponding segments have a non-empty intersection.Hartman et al.[13]proved that every bipartite planar graph is the intersection graph of some set of horizontal and vertical segments.A contact graph is an intersection graph of segments for which no two segments have an interior point in common.Strengthening the above result,de Fraysseix et al.[6](and later,Czyzowicz et al.[3])proved that every bipartite3planar graph is a contact graph of some set of horizontal and vertical segments.Similarly, de Castro et al.[4]proved that every triangle-free planar graph is a contact graph of some set of segments with only three distinct slopes. It is an open problem whether every planar graph is the intersection graph of a set of segments in the plane;see[5,16]for the most recent results. It is even possible that every k-colourable planar graph(k≤4)is the intersection graph of some set of segments using only k distinct slopes.1.1DefinitionsWe consider undirected, finite, and simple graphs G with vertex set V(G)and edge set E(G).The number of vertices and edges of G are respectively denoted by n=|V(G)|and m=|E(G)|.The maximum degree of G is denoted by∆(G).For all S⊆V(G),the(vertex-)induced subgraph G[S]has vertex set S and edge set {vw∈E(G):v,w∈S}.For all S⊆V(G),let G\S be the subgraph G[V(G)\S].For all v∈V(G),let G\v=G\{v}.For all A,B⊆V(G),let G[A,B]be the bipartite subgraph of G with vertex set A∪B and edge set{vw∈E(G):v∈A\B,w∈B\A}.For all S⊆E(G),the(edge-)induced subgraph G[S]has vertex set{v∈V(G):∃vw∈S} and edge set S.For all pairs of vertices v,w∈V(G),let G∪vw be the graph with vertex set V(G)and edge set E(G)∪{vw}.For each integer k≥1,k-trees are the class of graphs defined recursively as follows. The complete graph K k+1is a k-tree,and the graph obtained from a k-tree by adding a new vertex adjacent to each vertex of an existing k-clique is also a k-tree.The treewidth of a graph G is the minimum k such that G is a spanning subgraph of a k-tree.For example, the graphs of treewidth one are the forests.Graphs of treewidth two, called series-parallel,are planar since in the construction of a2-tree,each new vertex can be drawn close to the midpoint of the edge that it is added onto.Maximal outerplanar graphs are examples of2-trees.2Some Special Plane GraphsAs illustrated in Figure1,we have the following characterisation of plane drawings with a segment between every pair of vertices. In some sense, these are the plane drawings with the least number of slopes.Theorem1.Let G be a plane graph. Then every pair of vertices of G is connected by a segment if and only if at least one of the following conditions hold:(a)all the vertices of G are collinear,(b)all the vertices of G,except for one,are collinear,(c)all the vertices of G,except for two vertices v and w,are collinear, such that the line-segment vw passes through one of the collinear vertices,4(d)all the the vertices of G,except for two vertices v and w,are collinear, such that theline-segment vw does not intersect the line-segment containing V(G)\{v,w},(e)G is the6-vertex octahedron graph(say V(G)={1,2,...,6}and E(G)={12,13,23,45,46,56,14,15,25,26,34,36})with the triangle{4,5,6}inside the triangle{1,2,3},and each of the triples{1,4,6},{2,5,4},{3,6,5}are collinear.Proof.As illustrated in Figure1,in a plane graph that satisfies one of(a)-(e),every pair of vertices is connected by a segment. For the converse, consider a plane graph G in which every pair of vertices is connected by a segment.Let L be a maximum set of collinear vertices.Let ˆL be the line containing L.Then|L|≥2.If|L|=2,then G=Kn for some n≤4,which is included in case(a),(b),or(d).Now suppose that|L|≥3.Without loss of generality,ˆL is horizontal.Let S and T be the sets of vertices respectively above and belowˆL.Assume|S|≥|T|.If|S|≤1,then it is easily seen that G is in case(a),(b),(c),or(d).Otherwise|S|≥2. Choose v∈S to be the closest vertex toˆL(in terms of perpendicular distance),and choose w∈S\{v}to be the next closest vertex. This is possible since G isfinite.Let p be the point of intersection betweenˆL and the line through v and w.Suppose on the contrary that there are at least two vertices x,y∈L on one side of p.Say x is between p and y.Then the segments vy and wx cross at a point closer toˆL than v.Since G is plane, there is a vertex in S at this point, contradicting our choice of v.Hence there is at most one vertex in L on each side of p.Since|L|≥3,p is a vertex in L,and|L|=3.Thus there is exactly one vertex in L on each side of p.Let these vertices be x and y.Suppose on the contrary that there is a vertex u∈S\{v,w}.Then u is above w,and u is not on the line containing v,w,p(as otherwise L is not a maximum set of collinear points). Thus the segment uv crosses either wx or wy at a point closer toˆL than w.Since G is plane, there is a vertex in S at this point, contradicting our choice of w.Thus|S|=2,which implies |T|≤2.Now V(G)={v,w,p,x,y}∪T.We have|V(G)|≥6,as otherwise G is in case(a),(b), (c)or(d).Hence T=∅.Consider a vertex q∈T.The segment qv crossesˆL at some vertex in L.It cannot cross at p(as otherwise L would not be a maximum set of collinear vertices). Thus every vertex q∈T is collinear with vx or vy.Suppose there are two vertices q1,q2∈T with q1collinear with vx and q2collinear with vy.Then the segments q1y and q2x would cross at a point belowˆL but not collinear with vx or vy,which is a contradiction.Suppose there are two vertices q1,q2∈T both collinear with vx;say q1is closer toˆL than q2.Then the segments q1y and q2p would cross at a point belowˆL but not collinear with vx or vy, which is a contradiction. We obtain a similar contradiction if there are two vertices q1,q2∈T both collinear with vy.Thus there is exactly one vertex q∈T.Without loss of generality, q is collinear with vx.Then{v,w,x,y,p,q}induce the octahedron in case(e)where1=q, 2=y,3=w,4=x,5=p,and6=v.5dLemma3.The number of slopes in a drawing of a graph is(a)at least half the maximum degree, and(b)at least the minimum degree. The number of slopes in a convex drawing of a graph is(c)at least the maximum degree.Proof.At most two edges incident to a single vertex can have the same slope. This proves (a).In a drawing D of a(finite)graph, there is a line L such that D∩L consists of exactly one vertex v.Thus all of the edges incident to v have distinct slopes. This proves(b).Every edge incident to a single vertex in a convex drawing has distinct slope. This proves(c).4Drawings on Two or Three SlopesFor drawings on two or three slopes the choice of slopes is not important.Lemma4.A graph has a(plane)drawing on three slopes if and only if it has a(plane) drawing on any three slopes.Proof.Let D be a drawing of a graph G on slopes s1,s2,s3.Let t1,t2,t3be three given slopes. Let T be a triangle with slopes s1,s2,s3.Let T be a triangle with slopes t1,t2,t3.It is well known that there is an affine transformationαto transform T into T .Let D be the result of applyingαto D.Since parallel lines are preserved underα,every edge in D has slope in{t1,t2,t3}.Since sets of collinear points are preserved underα,no edge passes through another vertex in D .Thus D is a drawing of G with slopes t1,t2,t3.Moreover,two edges cross in D if and only if they cross in D .Thus D is plane whenever D is plane.Corollary1.A graph has a(plane)drawing on two slopes if and only if it has a(plane) drawing on any two slopes.Garg and Tamassia[12]proved that it is N P-complete to decide whether a graph has a rectilinear planar drawing(that is,with vertical and horizontal edges). Thus Corollary1 implies:Corollary2.It is N P-complete to decide whether a graph has a plane drawing with two slopes.Note that it is easily seen that K4has a drawing on four slopes, but does not have adrawing on slopes{0, ,π2,π2+ }for small enough .5Planar Graphs with Small Treewidth5.1TreesTheorem2.Let T be a tree with maximum degree∆,and withηvertices of odd degree. The minimum number of segments in a drawing of T isη/2.The minimum number of slopes in a drawing of T is ∆/2 .Moreover,T has a plane drawing withη/2segments and ∆/2 slopes.7Proof.The lowerwill follow from the following “Every tree T with maximum odd degree vertex is an endpoint of a segment.”The of T incident to the edge xy .Let First suppose Thus y has odd degree in T .By slopes,in which y is an endpoint e incident to y .Draw x on the drawing D ,the number of slopes an endpoint of any segment.Figure 3:deg(y )odd. Now suppose y has even degree in T .By which y is not an endpoint of 2≤ ∆/2 −1slopes.If the otherwise let s be an unused there are no crossings. In the x and y .Since both x and y of any segment in the drawing of slopes in D is max { ∆ /2 ,deg T 5.2A planar graph G all the vertices on the boundary G ∪vw is not outerplanar for is outerplanar if all the vertices graph has a unique outerplanar embedding.Theorem 3.Every n -vertex maximal outerplanar graph G has an outerplanar drawing with at most n segments. For all n ≥3,there is an n -vertex maximal outerplanar graph that has at least n segments in any drawing.Proof.We prove the upper bound by induction on n with the additional invariant that the8drawing isface of D,and every ray point. For n=3,point in the internal face.vertex v whose neighbours x induction,G has a drawing internal face of D ,such one point. The edge xy lies on Without loss of generality,xy F is bounded by aFor three b,c)to be the infinite region two sides by the ray from b wedge(y,x,r) or in the wedgeLet R be p,y).The line extending the point in R that is on the line defines our drawing D of crossings in D. For all n≥4,there is an n-vertex plane3-tree with at least2n−2slopes(and thus at least 2n−2segments)in every drawing.Proof.We prove the upper bound by induction on n with the hypothesis that“every plane 3-tree with n≥4vertices has a plane drawing with at most2n−2segments,such that for12every internal face F there is an edge e incident to exactly one vertex of F,and the extension of e intersects the interior of F.”The base case is trivial since K4is the only3-tree on four vertices, and any plane drawing of K4satisfies the hypothesis.Suppose that the claim holds for plane3-trees on n−1vertices.Let G be a plane3-tree on n vertices.Every k-tree on at least k+2vertices has two non-adjacent simplicial vertices of degree exactly k[8].In particular,G has two non-adjacent simplicial degree-3vertices, one of which, say v,is not on the outerface. Thus G can be obtained from G\v by adding v inside some internal face(p,q,r)of G\v,adjacent to p,q and r¶.By induction,G\v has a drawing with2n−4segments in which there is an edge e incident to exactly one of {p,q,r},and the extension of e intersects the interior of the face.Position v in the interior of the face anywhere on the extension of e,and draw segments from v to each of p,q and r. We obtain a plane drawing of G with2n−2segments.The extension of vp intersects the interior of(v,q,r);the extension of vq intersects the interior of(v,p,r);and the extension of vr intersects the interior of(v,p,q).All other faces of G are faces of G\v.Thus the inductive hypothesis holds for G,and the proof of the upper bound is complete. For each n≥4we now provide a family G n of n-vertex plane3-trees,each of which require at least2n−2segments in any drawing.Let G4={K4}.Obviously every plane drawing of K4has six segments. For all n≥5,let G n be the family of plane3-trees G obtained from some plane3-tree H∈G n−1by adding a new vertex v in the outerface of H adjacent to each of the three vertices of the outerface.Any drawing of G contains a drawing of H,which contributes at least2n−4segments by induction. In addition, the two edges incident to v on the triangular outerface of G are each in their own segment. Thus G has at least2n−2 segments.63-Connected Plane GraphsThe following is the main result of this section.Theorem6.Every3-connected plane graph with n vertices has a plane drawing with at most 5n/2−3segments and at most2n−10slopes.The proof of Theorem6is based on the canonical ordering of Kant[15],which is a generalisation of a similar structure for plane triangulations introduced by de Fraysseix et al.[7].Let G be a3-connected plane graph.Kant[15]proved that G has a canonical ordering defined as follows.Letσ=(V1,V2,...,V K)be an ordered partition of V(G).That is, V1∪V2∪···∪V K=V(G)and V i∩V j=∅for all i=j.Define G i to be the plane subgraph of G induced by V1∪V2∪···∪V i.Let C i be the subgraph of G induced by the edges on the boundary of the outerface of G i.As illustrated in Figure9,σis a canonical ordering of G if:¶Note that this implies that the planar3-trees are precisely those graphs that are produced by the LEDA ‘random’maximal planar graph generator. This algorithm, starting from K3,repeatedly adds a new vertex adjacent to the three vertices of a randomly selected internal face.13•V1={v1•V K={v•Each C i•Each G i two interior vertices•For each1.V i C i−1,and v ihas2.V i has at leastone V i have onei−1.The The vertices {s1,s2,...,s all division vertices.A∈G\G i.A vertex u is a<i.We also say that u is predecessors of V i ordered and right predecessors of V i.Theorem7.ordering σ.Define Ssegments, and at mostm−max{n−|S|−4,|S|}slopes.Proof.Wefirst define D and then determine the upper bounds on the number of segments and slopes in D.For every vertex v,let X(v)and Y(v)denote the x and y coordinates of v, respectively. If a vertex v has a neighbour w,such that X(w)<X(v)and Y(w)<Y(v),then we say vw is a left edge of v.Similarly,if v has a neighbour w,such that X(w)>X(v)and Y(w)<Y(v),then we say vw is a right edge of v.If vw is an edge such that X(v)=X(w) and Y(v)<Y(w),than we say vw is a vertical edge above v and below w.We define D inductively onσ=(V1,V2,...,V K)as follows.Let D i denote a drawing of G i.A vertex v is a peak in D i,if each neighbour w of v has Y(w)≤Y(v)in D i.We say that a point p in the plane is visible in D i from vertex v∈D i,if the segment pv does not intersect D i except at v.At the i th induction step,2≤i≤K,D i will satisfy the following invariants:Invariant1:C i\v1v2is strictly X-monotone;that is,the path from v1to v2in C i\v1v2has increasing X-coordinates.Invariant2:Every peak in D i,i<K,has a successor.Invariant3:Every representative vertex v j∈V j,2≤j≤i has a left and a right edge. Moreover,if|P(V j)|≥3then there is a vertical edge below v j.Invariant4:D i has no edge crossings. For the base case i=2,position the vertices v1,v2and v3at the corners of an equilateral triangle so that X(v1)<X(v3)<X(v2)and Y(v1)<Y(v2)<Y(v3).Draw the division vertices of V2on the segment v1v3.This drawing of D2satisfies all four invariants. Now suppose that we have a drawing of D i−1that satisfies the invariants. There are two cases to consider in the construction of D i,corresponding to the two cases in the definition of the canonical ordering.Case1.|P(V i)|≥3:If v i has a middle predecessor v j with|P(V j)|≥3,let w=v j.Otherwise let w be any middle predecessor of v i.Let L be the open ray{(X(w),y):y>Y(w)}.By invariant1for D i−1,there is a point in L that is visible in D i−1from every predecessor of v i.Represent v i by such a point, and draw segments between v i and each of its predecessors. That the resulting drawing D i satisfies the four invariants can be immediately verified.Case2.|P(V i)|=2:Suppose that P(V i)={w,u},where w and u are the left and the right predecessors of V i,respectively.Suppose Y(w)≥Y(u).(The other case is symmetric.)Let P be the path between w and u on C i−1\v1v2.As illustrated in Figure10,let A i be the region {(x,y):y>Y(w)and X(w)≤x≤X(u)}.Assume, for the sake of contradiction, that D i−1∩A i=∅.By the monotonicity of D i−1, P∩A i=∅.Let p∈P∩A i.Since Y(p)>Y(w)≥Y(u),P is X-monotone and thus has15a vertex between w and u that is the canonical orderingσ,the addition of V i creates a face of G of G i−1.Therefore,each vertex between w and u on P has a peak in D i−1by invariant2, which is the desiredLet L be the open ray{(X(u by invariant3,w has a left and a right edge in D i−1.Let c L and the line extending the left edge at w.If w∈S,L.By invariant1,there is a point c ∈{c,w}on wc such Represent v i by c ,and draw two segments v i u and v i w.These any part of D i−1(and neither is horizontal).Represent any points on the open segment wv i∩A i.Therefore,in the crossings and the remaining three invariants are maintained. This completes the will be used to bound the number of segments and slopes vertex(and v2)can be the higher predecessor for atClaim1.Let V i,V j∈σwith i<Let w i be the higher of the two predecessors of V i in D i−1,and predecessors of V j in D j−1.If w i∈S or w i=v2,then w i=w j.Proof.Suppose that w i∈V k,k<Then each division vertex lies on some non-horizontal segment segment. Thus w i is not a peak in D k,and therefore it is For all >0,letA ={(x,y):y(w i)},andA ={(x,y):y i)+ }.Then for all small enough ,∅.Without loss of generality, A ∩D k=∅and A ∩D k=∅.A i,as defined in Case2 of the construction of D i,A ∩D i=∅for all small。
