在中学英语教学尤其是农村英语教学中，师生普遍感到写作比较难。
学生写作时觉得无从下手，又不知如何提高写作能力；老师觉得批改英语作文费时又费力，如此一来，学生往往在写作方面因缺乏锻炼和指导而倍感困难。
笔者旨在通过数年的教学实践，谈谈怎样培养学生写的能力。
一、选词能力
文章不论长短，都由词汇构成。
学习英语写作，在很大程度上就是要学会驾驭不同词汇来表达自己的看法。
选词时，应注意以下几个方面：
首先，用词要准确。
中国学生在写作中常常会受到母语的干扰，把一个英语单词的中文译法当作它的确切意思，或者通过中文译法来选择词汇。
在许多情况下，在汉语中很难找到在意思和用法上与英语完全相对应的词。
它们在不同的语境中多多少少会有些差别。
所以，为了准确地了解一个英语单词的含义，最好查阅有关英语辞典，根据英文释义和词典提供的例句和语境来确定这个词的意义与用法，从而作出准确的选择。
其次，搭配要准确。
在英语中，许多词对于可与之搭配使用的其它词汇有着比较明确的限制。
有些词可以搭配，而有些词则习惯上不一起使用。
例如，中文讲“大雨”，英语说“heavy rain”而不讲“big rain”；“取得进步”英文说“make progress”而不讲“get progress”。
类似的例子还有很多。
所以写作时切忌用母语习惯想当然地去选词搭配。
另外，写作中，有些学生由于对英语中的一些习语或成语不熟悉，因而常犯用词搭配的错误。
习语往往无固定规律可循，所以学生只能靠平时积累，记住某些词在某些成语中的固定搭配。
此外，写作中应注意措词的变化。
一篇好的文章，应注意用不同的词语来表达相同或相近的意思。
最后，还要注意词语风格，什么样的文体使用什么样的词。
总的来说，正式词汇用于学术性或理论性较强的文章；一般词汇常用于任何种类的文章；非正式词汇主要用于日常的口头交谈等。
二、造句能力
句子是人们进行书面交际的基本途径。
在写作中，首先要注意句子的完整性，一个完整句子应该表达一个完整的意思。
由于对英语句法缺乏一定的了解，有些学生往往会写出一些结构不完整的句子。
比如：
1）我来了。
I coming. (错)
I＇m coming. (对)
2）作业做完了。
Has finished the homework. (错)
He has finished the homework. (对)
完整的句子至少有一个主语和一个谓语动词。
如果谓语动词是及物动词，则必须带宾语；如果是连系动词，必须后接表语或补语。
此外，完整的英语句子应以大写字母开始。
有些学生因受自己汉语写作习惯的影响，喜欢用逗号将完整的句子分开，或者用逗号取代句号、冒号、分号、破折号。
这也是写作中常见的错误，应引起重视，请看下例各句：

学生在写作时，除了应注意句子结构的完整性，还应注意句子结构的多样化，注意协调使用各种句型，即学会交替使用简单句、并列句、复合句和并列复合句等句型。
只有这样，才能使文章达意生动又有节奏。
三、组段能力
段落是构成一篇文章直接的表意单位。
一般来说，一个段落只能讲叙一件事或一个问题。
每个段落的主题句是段落核心意义的概括。
在作文时，学会写主题句是把握主题，防止跑题的有效手段。
主题句可放在段落的开头或结尾，也可置于句中。
作者写完主题句之后应围绕其作适当的展开，必须用相关的事例和细节来扩展主题句。
段落展开的方法多种多样，比如：举例展开、比较与对比展开、时空展开等。
段落写作中，主题句与扩展句都必不可少，而收尾句则可有可无，往往根据作者的写作需要而定。
请见下例：
I had a terrible morning. I slept so late that I had no time to eat my breakfast. 这段文字按时间顺序展开，讲述了作者从早上起来，上课中至上课结束所发生的种种令人不快的事情，条理清楚，明白易懂。
造句要注意完整性，组段也要注意段落的一致性和连贯性。
所谓一致性，即每个段落是思想的一个整体，所有的段落句子都应紧扣主题。
不能支撑主题句的句子会破坏一个段落的一致性。
此类句子可按需要移至别处或干脆删除。
连贯性是指段落的每个句子都能自然地合乎逻辑地过渡到另外一个句子。
组段时，要注意使用过渡词和短语取得句与句之间的连贯还要注意内容安排的连贯性。
四、成篇能力
就短文而言，一篇文章大致可以分成三个部分：
引言部分。
文章的开头往往最难写，但是开头很重要。
为了组织好全篇材料，一定要认真考虑从何处说起，再向何处展开。
大体来讲，不同文体在引言部分其写法各不相同。
记叙文多在引言部分介绍时空背景；说明文常在引言部分解释说明事物存在的条件、状况等；而议论文一般在引言部分说明观点。
正文部分。
正文是文章的主体，它对引言部分提出的人物、事件、观点等进行描绘、说明和论证。
文体不同，正文展开的方法也不同。
例如，在一篇题为The Beautiful Campus of Our University 的描述性文章中，作者在引言中提出校园非常美丽，正文部分自然需要具体描绘校园在哪些方面给人留下美丽的印象。
再如，在一篇题为Can Money Buy Happiness 议论文中，作者在正文部分分别从正反两个方面对论点进行论证：金钱是幸福之源，也是万恶之源。
这样的论文证据有事实可依，说服力强。
结尾部分。
一篇文章的结尾段，主要是重申或总结讨论过的要点，提出必要的建议。
因此，一个好的结尾，不但要能勾起读者对全文内容的回忆，而且要能启发读者进行深入的思考。
仍以Can Money Buy Happiness 为例，在这篇文章的结尾段，作者用辩证法表明自己的态度，以“money，like a coin”的比喻恰如其分地说明了金钱的两面性，正面回答了标题所提出的问题。
同引言部分和正文部分一样，英语短文在结尾处理上也应根据作文类型的不同而作适当的选择。
当然，不论何种文体，结尾都应强调对叙述、描写和论证的内容作一总结。
总之，要写好英语作文并非一件容易的事情，它需要平时的积累训练，以得水到渠成之功。
因此，教师在平时的教学中，应加强写作意识，鼓励并督促学生练习写作，让学生
