10月翻译资格二级英语口译实务试卷及答案

10月翻译资格二级英语口译实务试卷及答案The Certificate of English Interpretation: Level ⅡNow please listen to the instructions for this exam. I'll give you a brief introduction before each part of the exam begins and leave you enough time to do the interpreting. Each part is divided into a number of segments and at the start of each segment you will hear this tone. At each pause where you are expected to start interpreting, you'll also hear this tone .You'll hear each segment only once.Let's start with Part 1.Part 1 Consecutive Interpretation: English to ChineseIn this part you will hear a speech delivered in English by an American official at the Seminal" onInternational Trade Conflict and Public Relations. Please interpret this speech into Chinese.Let's begin.Ladies and Gentlemen,Recent polls show that the majority of Americans actually do believe that Sino-American relationship, bothpolitically and economically, is vitally important. Please allow me to offer some suggestions on what we can dotogether to cultivate our relationship, and to continue the progress of the last years so that we can work towardseducating our policymakers and citizens about the benefits of free trade to our economies.First, we must seek out opportunities to continue the exchange of views between our two countries. We must encourage students to study abroad--here I must admit we have a much harder time to getAmericans to travel than our friends in China. We should also urge the exchanges of academics, scientists and artists.Second, we need more exchange of business leaders. I recall the Fortune Global Forum that was held inShanghai in 1999, where more than 800 representatives, including 300 Chairmen, presidents and CEOs fromthe world's leading multinationals came to China to meet with over 200 Chinese entrepreneurs to exchangeopinions and share the experiences that affect their businesses.Third, I would urge you to come to the United States to learn about the factors thatshape Americanthinking and the formulation of its policies. Ask your friends and contacts to make introductions for you tomeet with business leaders and policymakers.Fourth, explore opportunities to invest in the United States. American legislators respond to nothingmore than to their constituents. Many of you already have subsidiaries in the US Here, the Haier Groupcomes to mind. Haier has invested over $15 million in a building in New York and over $40 million inCamden, South Carolina, employing significant numbers of Americans. We need to work together tomake sure that policymakers understand that our bilateral trade relationship is beneficial to both of oureconomies. This is a pattern that the Japanese used in the 1970s and 1980s to develop markets as well asto exert influence. Finally, we should work together to make the APEC viable again. We defined in 1994 that we would reach free trade among many APEC nations by the year 2005. We have lost momentum. China and the USshould work together to reinvigorate the APEC process.Let me conclude by saying that Sino-American relations are the best they have ever been. We have beenable to collaborate on important political and security matters that are vital to the well-being of our peoples. Our economic interests are closely linked as well. China and the US both seek economic growth and stability.Although we may choose to pursue our interests through different policies, we strive to liberalize our marketsand provide businesses with transparent and predictable access for goods and services. The stability of our relations is much like the stability of a three-legged stool. The legs consist ofstrategic, political, and economic relations. If anyone of the legs is either missing or weak, the stool isunstable and is in danger of collapsing. It is our responsibility to maintain the strength of these legs. That's the end of Part 1. Now we move on to Part 2.Part 2 Consecutive Interpretation: Chinese to EnglishIn this part you will hear a speech delivered in Chinese by a Chinese official at the 2005 Fortune GlobalForum. Please interpret this speech into English.Let's begin.尊敬的来宾,女士们,先生们:早上好! 我很高兴来参加《财富》全球论坛,也很荣幸在此与大家交流一下我的看法。

大学英语口语考试试题-10个口语话题

大学英语口语考试试题-10个口语话题

(1) 视听说 2 Unit1How does music affect our life?Music greatly affects our personal moods. Music can calm and revitalize us in a variety of ways. It elevates our moods above our personal fears and doubts and even reduces stress and pain levels. Music always exists in our life. Mothers usually sing smoothing songs to make their children get to sleep. At a sports meeting, fast and vigorous songs are played in order to lift athletes up. What’s more, quite a few students prefer to listen to a walkman while they are doing their homework. In a word, putting additional music in our life can be a powerfully enriching tool. (2) 视听说2 Unit2 T oday’s MoviesSeveral things are missing in today's movies: (1) Although there were some good romantic comedies in the 90's, there are very few today that really rival the screwball shows of the 30's and 40's.(2)Now that technical abilities have increased so dramatically with the development of computer graphics, too often special effects take the place of character development and the creation of a desirable and believable alternate world.(3) The element of fantasy is also missing(4)it leads us to star power.(3) 视听说 2 Unit3 Please talk about wedding ceremonies in China and in the U.S. In china, many Chinese believe that marriage is a major event in life, and they choose to spend a lot of money to celebrate it. Usually, the couple invites a large number of guests, who are seated at ten or more dining tables. The bride and the groom toast each other and the guests cheer. The parents of the couple may give speeches to express thanks to each other for bringing up such a nice young man or girl. Also, they wish the couple will love each other for life. The groom and the bride may also thank their parents. Weddings in the u.s vary as much as the people do, but church wedding is popular. The wedding party enters the church while the wedding march is played. When the wedding party is gathered by the altar, the bride and the groom exchange vows, then they exchange rings.(4)Ads in my eyes Every coin has two sides. Ads have positive effects as well as negative effects. On the one hand, through ads, we can know a new product and get information about products to make a choice. On the other hand, the large amounts of money spent on ads, of course, will be passed on consumers. What's more, producers often exaggerate their products. Misleading a lot of people to buy products. It also causes negative social effects. For example, The posters ruin the environment; ads usually encourage unnecessary buying; ads usually portray young and beautiful people, thus older, plain-looking people may feeling as if they do not belong to contemporary world, and so on. (5) 视听说 2 Unit5 What animals are usually kept as pets? Why? Dogs and cats usually kept as pets. Because dogs loyal to their owners and intelligent. They can carry out human instructions and perform fairly complicated functions. Moreover, with its strength and agility, the dog is capable of protecting the house and its master. Cats are also popular to be kept as pets, because cats have soft fur, meek tempers and cute faces, making people like them. What’s more, cats can bring a lot of pleasure to people by funny behaviors.(6) 视听说2 Unit6 Do you think fashion shows are necessary in today’s society? Why or why not?No, I don’t think so. Obviously fashion shows have been around for a long time in a various parts of the world. This fact shows that they are an indispensable part of the modern culture. However, I’d like to point out that the pursuit of fashion should not take up the greater part of our lives. After all, work and study are far more important than fashion shows.(7) 视听说 2 Unit7 What is your opinion of money? In my opinion, money can both benefit people and do harm to them. On the one hand, we can' deny that money is useful. We need money to buy t food, buy a house or pay our education cost. Money can make us live more comfortably. For example, with more money, we can help others and take part in more social activities and receive a good education, thus increasing our knowledge and developing our skills. On the other hand, some people try to get money by dishonest means, for example, they often cheat and gemble, even rob and kill people. Sooner or later, they will be punished by the law. Money can bring them nothing but misery.(8) 视听说 2 Unit8 Why do people commit crimes? What causes are especially important? Why? Many factors contribute to crime, such as poverty, the gap betweenthe rich and the poor, lack of education, emotional outbreaks and loose law enforcement. If one suddenly gets angry, he may be control over himself and injure or even kill people. Uneducated people may not know what punishments there are and go ahead boldly and foolishly. But lack of education is often linked with a lack of money. Poor people mayfeel miserable, and ill-feelings breed crime. Clearly, the widening gap between the rich and the poor plays a significant role in crime levels. Some people may commit crimes because of emotional outbreaks. Such people need a strong government and strict low enforcement to help them think twice before they leap. T o conclude, the gap between the rich and the poor and loose law enforcement may be especially important cause of crime.。

10级第二学期第二次口语话题参考答案

10级第二学期第二次口语话题参考答案

1. The Media1) Which do you like better, radio or television WhyTo speak frankly, I like watching TV. First, there are a great variety of programs on TV. People can learn the latest news around the world --- that’s why people say “to stay at home and still you can get to know the world.”There are various entertainment programs, such as films, TV series, talk shows, variety shows, MTVs, etc.; such programs can entertain people, and help people to kill the leasure time so that people will not feel bored in such periods. On TV, there are also many educational and scientific programs, from which we can learn a lot. In addition, there are programs on attractions and places of interests, by means of which, people can “ stay at home and travel around the world.” Comparatively, radios do have some advantages: they are portable; you can listen to radio while walking or even working, but TV does outweigh radio in many ways. Of course, TV is not without problems: spending too much time in front of TV distracts you from your studies or work, and it is harmful to your eyes. So, I’d like to say, it’s really helpful and beneficial to watch TV, but don’t be addicted to it.2) Do you often watch TV What TV programs do you like watchingOr: Do you often listen to the radio What kind of radio programs do you listen to What do you think of themReference:There are different types of media today. Radio and TV are the two common media for us. They connect us to the outside world. They tell us what is happening and shorten the distance between us and the outside world. I like listening to English news, Special English of VOA is my favorite. I keep on it for several months. It’s very helpful for my English learning. In addition, I often listen to some sports news and music on the radio. These radio programs make me funny and relaxed. Of course, compared with TV, radio is portable, I can carry it with me wherever I go . I like it very much.3) Can you imagine a life without TV or radio What role does radio or TV play in your lifeReference: I can’t imagine a life without TV since I enjoy watching television so much. It really plays an important role in my life. Whenever I feel distressed, bored or unhappy, I will turn on the television to watch my favourite programs to help relax myself. However, to watch TV, you have to stay in the same room as a television, and you can’t watch it during driving or jogging, do you Besides, TV watching takes up too much time; I no longer have enough time to develop otherinterests. Maybe these are the only disadvantages of television.2. Love and Marriage1) What factors do you think are important in making a boyfriend or girlfriend Is romantic love the most important condition for marriage WhyReference: From my point of view, there are some important factors in making a boyfriend or girlfriend. First, I think, being an honest, sincere, kind- hearted person can leave a favorable impression on others and in turn you can achieve others’trust and respect. Then, Cultivating common interests is also significant. For instance, you two can share views about such topics like economy, politics, work related as well as personal issues. In this way, you can improve your deep understanding about the life and the other’s characters. Besides, showing my caring attitude is necessary to make a boyfriend or a girlfriend. It does not mean mothering him but help him or her out of difficult times and become his or her support.A successful marriage requires a combination of many factors, such as love, tolerance, understanding, mutual trust, support, etc. Romantic love is just one small part of love which even is not necessarily the most important part of a successful marriage. Romantic love only can keep their love more exciting, but can not keep a marriage fit and stable for a long period of time. For instance, maybe it is romantic to buy flowers and have a candlelit dinner. However, it is wasteful to do so in marriage. As is known to all of us, marriage is practical. Actually, the frustrations and reality of daily life can take a roll on marriage and their romantic feeling disappears right away. For example, lack of money can bring a lot of quarrellings for a marriage; couples with different educations levels are not likely to have something in common. Those frustrations can not be resolved only by romantic love. By then responsibility and mutual trust between couples actually weigh more than romantic love. To sum up, accidental or dramatic romantic situation can not support a marriage2) Some people contend that college students should not make boyfriends or girlfriends when they study on campus; while others hold that college students should be encouraged to date on campus. What is your point of view on campus date of college students Why College students are a distinct group of people whose behavior and words always become the focus of public attention. When people comment on campus date of college students, people show quite different views on the phenomenon. Some people argue that college students should not make boyfriends or girlfriends while others hold an opposite point of view. In fact, we could not find a correct answer to the problem, because every coin has two sides. The reasons to favor campus date are asfollows:College students are at the right age, they have a mental and physical need and interest to know the opposite sex. Besides, dating on campus can make students become mature earlier, because they have to learn how to cooperate with others, how to care about others. What’s more, if students can coordinate their study and date well, they are likely to study harder and excel(优秀) in school courses. In addition, beautiful campus provides best environment for students to date the opposite sex.We also have some reasons to oppose campus date:First, campus date will distract students’ attention from academic studies if they could not handle it appropriately. Second, most students are not psychologically mature enough. Failure in love could result in mental hurt to them. Third, the rate of successful campus dates is very low. Most “couples” in college end their love story before or upon graduation. Futhermore, campus date needs financial support, which will certainly increase the economic burden on their parents.3) Late marriage is becoming a trend in large modern cities. What are the reasons behind it Do advantages of late marriage outweigh disadvantages WhyIn large modern cities, young people prefer late marriage to early marriage, the reasons are as follows:Young people get married late because that will leave them enough time to accumulate a considerable sum of money for a better material life.Buying a large house is very essential to the newly-weds. Young people like to postpone the date of marriage so that they could live in a spacious room.Late marriage will leave the couple-to-be longer time to understand each other.Young people who marry late are likely to be socially and physically mature, which is helpful to a stable marriage.Late marriage will make young people free from house chores. They devote their time and energy to their career development.I think advantages of late marriage outweigh disadvantages. But some people argue that early marriage will make young people free from household chores earlier, which will be beneficial to the development of their career on the whole. Moreover, early marriage will bring abouta more intelligent child.4) Why is mixed marriage popular in such big cities as Shanghai and Beijing What are the possible difficulties for cross-culture marriageReference: In my opinion, there are several reasons behind this phenomenon. First, with the increasing communication between China andthe outside world, more and more foreigners come to China to look for new opportunities and challenges. Most of them choose to work and live in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. It is said that there are around 500,000 foreigners inhabited in Beijing. Therefore, it is quite natural for them to socialize with or even fall in love with local people. And it is not unusual for them to marry Chinese. Second, people in big cities are quite open-minded. They are more familiar with foreign culture and are more likely to accept mixed marriage. Third, many foreigners have great interest in Chinese culture and Chinese people. Out of this interest, they are happy to find a Chinese wife or husband. The couple of a cross-cultural marriage may encounter a lot of difficulties, such as language barrier, culture difference, and difference in value and beliefs, etc. First, as a couple from different countries, they speak different languages, and may have great difficulty in understanding each other. Second, people from different cultural background may have total different understanding about the same thing. For example, Chinese people prefer to live with their parents while westerners prefer not. Third, husband and wife in a mixed marriage may have different eating habits. For example, the Chinese husband may like to eat hot and spicy Sichuan food, whereas the American wife may feel happier to eat bread and sandwich. Fourth, the couple in a mixed marriage may have different understanding about how to raise and educate their children. For example, Chinese people attach great importance to their children's performance at school. They spend a lot of time and money tutoring their children to make sure that the kids can get a high score in exam. American people, on the other hand, seem to be more relaxed with the kids' academic performance. Last but not least, their children will encounter problems too. Children of mixed marriages are not likely to be accepted in certain areas in a community. They often have a hard time fitting in.5) If you were Gail’s parents, would you accept the marriage between Gail and Mark Give your reasons.Reference: I would accept the marriage between them on the condition that they were sure that there is true love between them, but it doesn’t mean parents should not warn young people of possible dangers. At first, no one can deny that true love is the key ingredient of successful marriage. Secondly my viewpoints are sometimes different from that of young people. I have to admit that I am not always right. What’ more, different people have different evaluation on one person. So what should be done is to trust them. Thirdly, I love my child. I hope she has a successful marriage without being annoyed by some unexpected troubles. Hence, I would not take a it-is-none-of-my-business attitude. I would remind my daughter of as many potential problems as I can anticipateaccording to my past experience.6) Would you mind marrying a person from a different culture or nation Why or why notReference 1Well, I wouldn’t say so. Marrying a foreigner has a number of advantages. We can learn each other’s language, celebrate more holidays and traditions, learn new customs, habits and foods. We can gain richer experience by travelling in each other’s home country and our children will be more open-minded. I think the key to a successful intercultural marriage lies in the couple actively learning about the other side in order to bridge the differences. If each partner is involved in learning, and is attracted to each other's language, holidays and customs, I believe it won’t be difficult for a mixed couple to live a happy and harmonious married life.Reference 2Yes, I do. To start with, I must admit that I harbor strong reservations about mixed marriage. People from different nations grow up in different social and cultural background. They may have entirely different lifestyles, observe different traditions and think in very different ways. It is not always easy for a mixed couple to communicate with each other. Besides, they maybe not interested in learning each other’s language, in new holidays and traditions. They may not want to adapt to different customs, habits and foods. Furthermore, a mixed couple always has to face some public concern. In fact, many people cannot accept a cross-culture marriage, especially the old citizens. And some people still have prejudice on foreigners. If this is the case, the couples in a cross-culture marriage may have to endure some gossip, and their children may have to endure some pressure. If they can’t deal with these problems, they may beak up in the end.An intercultural marriage is not for everyone. It requires extra strong level of patience, curiosity, tolerance for difference, and positive outlook that many people do not have.3. Advertising2) Do you like watching or reading advertisements Why or why notReference: Yes, I like watching or reading ads. They are amusing / interesting / vivid / fascinating / funny / persuasive. They are good means of acquiring information on commodities / service / jobs, etc. With ads, we save a lot of time in shopping / choosing the kind of product we want / looking for jobs / getting better service….On the whole, ads make our life convenient, interesting and colorful. They are part of our life. No,I dislike watching or reading ads. Because they are misleadingand often exaggerated, they do not really describe the products / commodities. What manufacturers concern most is profits not the benefits to consumers. Once a product is advertised, it tends to be expensive. Some products are even more than a little expensive, which are beyond our purchase power. What’s more, some products even do harm to our health. And still, ads interrupt programs frequently. So at this point, they are troublesome /disgusting. So I think it is a waste of time to watch or read ads. Ads are a nuisance.3) Do ads influence you (or people in general) in buying things HowReference: Yes, they do influence my purchase especially when I buy some appliances and home furniture because I have to rely on the ads for the best quality commodities through the ads on all kinds of media. However, for other life necessities such as clothing, food, and drinks,I never follow the ads.4) Why do manufacturers spend so much money on advertisingReference: Because they want to make more money and gain more profits this way. For they are confident that the large majority of people are always relying on ads on all kinds of media when they choose which brand to buy. And nearly all people believe the goods advertised are of better quality and well worth. Some others enjoy using goods popular with the public. So they try to advertise for their products at all costs.5) Among the advertisements you have watched or read, which impressed you most WhyReference: An ad on “the protection of Mom earth”. It is beautiful, vivid, and striking and very convincing to me and all other audience, I think. It not only shows the importance of the beautiful environment to human life both physically and mentally, but also the serious and harmfulness of the pollution and the negative effects on every people. Every man who values life and loves nature would get aware and take an active part for Mom earth himself with the ad, I think.6) Comment on the statement: Advertising does more good than harm to consumers.Reference: Advertising does more good than harm to consumers, I think, though some of them are exaggerated and even mislead the consumers. Even there are misinformation and sometimes very boring and interrupting. The advantages are noticeable as follows:1)Ads help consumers get to know a lot of knowledge about both the products and life and others.2) They always help us save time in shopping and buy quality goods if we don’t know what to buy.3) We are encouraged and feel good when we are using the productspopular with the public in our real life.4) Ads make our life interesting and colorful and some lead us a more fashionable and happier life.5) They are always making greater contributions to national taxes.6) The ads for public benefits are always good and necessary to remind us to work for better life.3. SportsQuestions for discussion:1)Do you like sports What is your favorite sportMy favorite sport is basketball as it is very exciting. I play basketball three times a week. Most often I play it in my school. I like basketball because the stars play very well. Basketball is very cheap and it is a good sport for our health. We can grow taller if we play basketball often. 1. The Media1) Which do you like better, radio or television? Why?To speak frankly, I like watching TV. First, there are a great variety of programs on TV. People can learn the latest news around the world --- that’s why people say “to stay at home a nd still you can get to know the world.” There are various entertainment programs, such as films, TV series, talk shows, variety shows, MTVs, etc.; such programs can entertain people, and help people to kill the leasure time so that people will not feel bored in such periods. On TV, there are also many educational and scientific programs, from which we can learn a lot.In addition, there are programs on attractions and places of interests, by means of which, people can “stay at home and travel around the world.” Comparatively, radios do have some advantages: they are portable; you can listen to radio while walking or even working, but TV does outweigh radio in many ways. Of course, TV is not without problems: spending too much time in front of TV distracts you from your studies or work, and it is harmful to your eyes. So, I’d like to say, it’s really helpful and beneficial to watch TV, but don’t be addicted to it.2) Do you often watch TV? What TV programs do you like watching?Or: Do you often listen to the radio? What kind of radio programs do you listen to? What do you think of them?Reference:There are different types of media today. I like it very much.3) Can you imagine a life without TV or radio? What role does radio or TV play in your life?Reference: I can’t imagine a life without TV since I enjoy watching television so much. It really plays an important role in my life. Whenever I feel distressed, bored or unhappy, I will turn on the television to watch my favourite programs to help relax myself. However, to watch TV, you have to stay in the same room as a television, and you can’t watch it during driving or jogging, do you? Besides, TV watching takes up too much time; I no longer have enough time to develop other interests. Maybe these are the only disadvantages of television.2. Love and Marriage1) What factors do you think are important in making a boyfriend or girlfriend? Is romantic love the most important condition for marriage? Why?Reference: From my point of view, there are some important factors in making a boyfriend or girlfriend. First, I think, being an honest, sincere, kind- hearted person can leave a favorable impression on others and in turn you can achieve others’ trust and respect. Then,Cultivating common interests is also significant. To sum up, accidental or dramatic romantic situation can not supporta marriage。
