She explained that her husband had come home one night and announced he’d found a cheaper apartment. M:Well,I guess I owe you an apology.Text7M:Ms.Robertson,for the past three weeks,I have been getting complaints about your work.W:Uh,what do you mean? What kind of complaints?M:Well, your supervisor told me you’re turning your reports in2to3days late, you’re often absent fromstaff meetings, and you haven’t been getting along with your colleagues.W:Look,Mr.Travers,I can explain...M:Ms.Robertson,I know you have been with us for a while now,but this business is changing fast.We need people who can keep up and work as a team.W:Mr.Travers,my mother was just diagnosed with stomach cancer.I’ve been spending all my time outside of work at the hospital with her,and I even had to leave work early because she went into emergency surgery and I had to sign some papers.I’ve been so exhausted, and then Morrison from accounting made a joke the other day about cancer victims losing their hair and...M:Oh...I had no idea,Ms.Robertson.W:I know my work has suffered these past few weeks, but I promise I will make up for it!M:Listen, why don’t you take a couple of days off? It’s much more important that you be with your mother while she is recovering.W:Really, sir?Thank you so much!M:My pleasure. And I’ll have a word with Morrison. That kind of talk has no place in this office!Text8W:I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!M:Um,that doesn’t sound good.W:Ha ha,it’s a figure of speech. It means I’m really hungry.M:Oh,I see. What exactly is a figure of speech?W:A figure of speech is a way to express something using a creative idea or an image. For example,a horse is a really big animal,so if you say you could eat a horse,it’s like saying that you could eat a huge amount of food because you’re so hungry.M:Can you give me another example?W:Sure. If you say,“Money doesn’t grow on trees,”it means that you should spend your money wisely because it is limited. If it grew on trees, like fruit, you could just have more and you wouldn’t need to save it.M:How do you know so much about figures of speech?W:My English teacher taught us a lot of them.He said that being able to use figures of speech is a good way to measure if someone is an advanced English speaker.M:Well,it sounds like you’re doing pretty well in his class!Text9M:So that’s the end of what I had prepared to share with you today. Now,I’d like to open it up for questions. We have about twenty minutes for questions and discussion.I’d be very interested to hear your comments...Yes?W:Yes,thank you for your excellent presentation.I have one question I would like to ask.You said our sales in Asia have been very low in general...I’m wondering what the situation is like in Japan.M:Good question. As I mentioned,Asia is slow overall, and this includes the Japanese market. There is no major difference between Japan and other Asian countries.Does that answer your question?W:Yes,thank you.Another question...Would you care to comment on the cultural impact of multinational companies on local economies?M:I’m afraid that’s outside the focus of my talk.I can talk to you individually about that after this discussion.W:What about our future direction in the Asian market? Can you talk a little about what plans we have? M:I don’t think I’m the right person to answer that question.Perhaps our general manager,Mr.Thomas, can answer that...Text10One day,a man was on his way to work. That morning,he had gotten up a little later than usual,so he had left home in a hurry and hadn’t eaten breakfast. As he was sitting on the bus,he thought about how hungry he was,and he looked down at his shoes...but he didn’t see them on his feet.He was wearing his slippers instead!“Oh,no,”the man said to himself,“I forgot to put on my shoes this morning because I was in such a rush!”He looked at his watch and decided that he did not have enough time to go back home and get his shoes,so he thought about what to tell his boss.He thought and thought, but he couldn’t think of a good excuse to tell his boss. Finally,he decided that the only solution was to buy a pair of shoes at the department store next to his office building. The man ended up spending$200on anew pair of shoes. He complained to himself on his way to the office, but when he tried to open the front door,he found that it was locked. Then he remembered it was a holiday that day,and everyone had the day off.。

Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now the website turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.”Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. 浙江高二高中英语期中考试班级:___________ 姓名:___________ 分数:___________一、阅读理解st year, I was on a plane with my friend, waiting for it to take off. The pilot’s voice was heard throughout the plane: “Sorry for the delay, ladies and gentlemen. Our engines don’t work. We are going to jump-start them. Once we get them going, we’ll get up in the air and see what happens.”That was all he said. “See what happens? Shouldn’t we have had a better plan than that?” At that point, I could only laugh nervously. One woman started crying: “Oh, no! We are going to crash!” There are sighs ofdespe ration and anxiety, and we hadn’t even taken off yet.The pilot even seemed unhappy. He told us one engine was working double time, and his plan was to get up in the air and see what happens! Then we did. We got up in the air, and what happened? Nothing. We arrived in Norfolk, and no sooner had the wheels touched down than applause burst out as everyone on the airplane breathed a sigh of relief. All too often, people stop achieving their goals just because they don't have a guaranteed result. But success will never be guaranteed. The best thing that you can do is to just get up in the air, and see what happens. If your aim is to build a business, then get up in the air and see what happens! Don't give yourself all the reasons why you can’t. Do not wait until you have everything you need. You never will.If your goal is to start a friendship, say “Hello”, get up in the air and see what happens! The results could be very rewarding. If your goal is to learn a new skill, get up in the air and see what happens! It might not be as difficult as you think. It could be fun!【1】How did the author feel when the pilot said the engines didn’t work?A.Disappointed B.AnxiousC.Curious D.Relieved【2】What can be inferred from the passage?A.The passengers began crying after the plane took off.B.The engines often worked double time to get started.C.The pilot tried to comfort the nervous passengers.D.The passengers reached the destination safe and sound.【3】The underlined sentences in the last paragraph means “______________”.A.think carefully before you make friends.B.start to fly the plane to see what will happen.C.make an effort even if the result is uncertain.D.get up from the chair and greet somebody.【4】What can be the best title for the passage?A.We Will See What HappensB.I Survived An Adventurous FlightC.The Pilot Risked Our LivesD.Making Plans Is Better Than Taking Chances2.We get it: You’re tired. You’re busy. And your shoes are away over there. Excuses are OK sometimes, but not every day—and especially not today. So put on your sneakers, get up off the couch, and let us kick your excuses to the curb (路边).“I…dislike…panting!”Being really out of breath may mean you’re trying too much too soon, which will kill your confidence. But you don’t have to be huffing and puffing to get a workout. Being active doesn't have to mean high-intensity. It’s justabout moving.“I hate exercise.”It may seem unbearable, but you just have to get started. Exercise releases endorphins (your brain’s own feel-good chemicals), which can be habit-forming. What’ s the best exercise? The one you’ll do regularly. So you may hate running. Don’t run! Ride your bike or just dance. Even cleaning your room is active. As long as you’re moving and getting your blood pumping, it counts. So get creative.“I don’t have time.”You may not have lots of time to spare when you’re busy with schoolwork, but we bet you can find 10 minutes. Bonus: An activity break will send oxygen to your brain, making you super-alert and more creative too. Famous thinkers like Aristotle and Steve Jobs liked “walking meetings," and you can follow in their footsteps by moving around while you brainstorm about a tough task or memorize your English vocabulary.“I never see results!”Even if you train with the help of a professional, you won’t see results right away. But you will feel them almost immediately. Don’t focus on how your body look s—focus on how you feel. Keep a journal of when you exercise (or don’t) and how you feel that day: Stressed? Focused? Tired? When you start noticing the amazing effects of exercise, you’ll have no excuses.【1】The underlined part “huffing and puffing” in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by “_________”.A.moving around B.breathing heavilyC.feeling confident D.wearing nice shoes【2】In the author’s eyes, the best exercise is the one that _________.A.is very relaxing B.you will stick toC.produces good results D.you can spare time on【3】Steve Jobs is mentioned to prove that doing exercise__________.A.is good for one’s figureB.is good for one’s healthC.makes one much happierD.makes one more productive3.Emily and her boyfriend had just had a fight. She felt alone and hopeless. Then she went into the kitchen and grabbed what she needed before going back up to her room quietly. She switched on the TV and started eating…and eating…for hours, until it was all gone. What Emily didn't know at the time was that she was suffering from an illness called binge-eatingdisorder(BED)(暴饮暴食).For years, Emily didn't tell anyone what she was doing. She felt ashamed, alone, and out of control. Why don't famous people confess (承认) to BED, as they do to anorexia? It's simple: There's a stigma(污名)involved. “Overeating is seen as very bad, but dieting to be skinny is seen as positive and even associated with determination," says Charles Sophy, a doctor in Beverly Hills , California."Some parents or friends may look at a teen with BED and think, 'Oh, a good diet and some will-power will do the trick.' But that's not true," says Dr.Ovidio Bermudez , a baby doctor at the Eating Recovery Center in Denver. "Eating disorders are real physical and mental health issues; it's not about willpower." The focus in treating BED shouldn't be on weight, because as with all eating disorders, the behaviors with food are a symptom of something deeper.Like most other diseases, genetics may play a big part in who gets BED and who doesn't. If you have a close relative with an eating disorder, that means you're more likely to develop an eating disorder of your own. Besides, many people with BED have tried at some point or another to control it by going on a diet, but paying more attention to food doesn't help. And it might even make things worse, like it did for Carla, who's 15 now and is recovering from BED. "My parents would always tease me about my weight, so when I was 14, I went on a very restrictive diet," she says. When you can't have something, you only want it more, so every time Carla would have a bite of something that wasn't allowed on her strict diet. She would quickly lose control and binge (狂欢). 【1】What does the underlined word "anorexia" in Paragraph 3 mean?A.Eating too much.B.Eating junk food.C.Loss of the wish to eat.D.Always eating in a hurry.【2】According to Dr. Ovidio Bermudez, people with BED_______ .A.just need a lot of willpowerB.can recover with a good dietC.can recover with the help of othersD.need to deal with their health problems【3】What can we learn from Carla's story?A.BED is an incurable disease.B.BED has something to do with genes.C.Going on a diet won't help BED patients.D.BED patients should pay attention to their food.二、其他Arguments happen in every healthy relationship—we know it sounds contradictory, but it’s true—but they can still have a negative impact if they aren’t handled properly.【1】Take a breath. We know that it can be hard to think clearly when you are angry, so we would first like to encourage you to try to take a second to collect your thoughts before engaging in a dialogue with your partner. 【2】 If you are not careful you could potentially say what might damage your relationship.Take the situation as it is. Even though you are angry and it can be hard to be objective, try to see the situation for what it is. Do not escalate (不断恶化) the argument.【3】 Try to understand the purpose behind the action—if something happened accidentally, you should not treat as if it were done intentionally.【4】 If you have done something wrong, the best possible option for you is to admit it. Denying something only makes it more hurtful and often your partner will be able to forgive you much more quickly if you are honest.Set ground rules. After a fight you and your partner can have a heart-to-heart talk of what happened.【5】 At this point you can set some ground rules for future fights, like not cursing each other or calling each other’s names, which might help reduce the intensity of your fights.Fighting with someone is never easy. And it’s especially difficult when you are arguing with someone that you care about. Thinking carefully and controlling yourself during an argument can help you avoid saying something that could permanently hurt your relationship.A.Take positive action.B.Avoid making excuses.C.Anger can be poisonous.D.Here is how to maintain good relationship.E. You can discuss what hurts each of you and how you can move forward.F. The trick to prevent an argument from destroying your relationship is learning how to fight fair.G. Ask yourself if this situation is worth arguing about.三、完形填空完形填空阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

She was surprised but being polite, she agreed. As they sat in a nice coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything and she felt uncomfortable. Suddenly, he asked the waiter, “Could you please give me some salt? I’d like to put it in my coffee. ” Everyone stared at him. He turned red, but when the sal t came, he put it in his coffee and drank. Curious, she asked, “Why salt with coffee? ” He explained, “ When I was a little boy, I lived near the sea. I liked playing on the sea. I could feel the taste of sea, just like this salty coffee. ”That was a really nice talk, also a good beginning of their story. They continued to date. She found that actually he was a man who met all her demands. Then the story was just like every beautiful love story: they got married and lived a happy life. After 40 years, he passed away and left her a letter which said: My dearest, please forgive my life-long lie. Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous that I asked for salt instead of sugar. It was hard for me to ask for a change, so I just went ahead. I never thought that could be the start of our conversation. I tried to tell you the truth, but I was afraid that it would ruin everything. I don’t like the salty coffee. But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life just because I love you!Her tears made the lett er totally wet. Someday, someone asked her, “What’s the taste of salty coffee?” She replied, “It’s sweet.”【1】She accepted his invitation after the party because ________.A.she was pretty B.he met all her demandsC.he was humorous D.she was well-mannered【2】How do you understand the last paragraph?A.The taste of salty coffee is special.B.Her husband’s love to her is sweet.C.Her memory about her life is great.D.She is used to the taste of the salty coffee.【3】The best title for this passage is ________.A.The Great Love B.The Salty CoffeeC.A Special Dating D.A Lifelong Lie2.Not only fashion and music are making a return—houses built in 1970s have proven to be better at cutting energy waste than those built today. The “tea cosy (茶壶套)” design, created in the mid-1970s and built in the early 1980s for low-income people, could provide a blueprint for meeting the Government aims of producing less from homes.CO2The 200 houses were designed to provide low-energy housing, and depend on an inner concrete (水泥) structure that holds in heat, protected by highly insulated (隔热的) setting which produces a “tea cosy” effect. The ordinary-looking houses also depend on more windows on south-facing sides, with northerly facing doors protected by porches (门廊).A study found the houses are 50 percent more energy efficient than the average home and use a quarter of the average energy for space heating. According to researchers, they use less than two-thirds of the power of homes built to meet 2010 building demands. And they will still be 25 percent more efficient than houses built to even more strict proposed demands for 2013. The design is one of the few that will be able to meet 2016 demands for zero-carbon homes. They were in the beginning fixed with just one or two gas heaters per home, although most now have central heating, depending on the heat from the sun and high insulation to keep steady temperatures inside the house. To be comfortable, they only need to use heating for three to four months a year, compared with seven months for UK home on average, and can be lived with no heating at all. With many house builders at present worrying that new homes are going to be much more expensive to build inorder to meet the Government’s ambitious targets, the“tea cosy”model meets this need perfectly.【1】The underlined word“blueprint”is closest in meaning to _________.A.photo B.model C.service D.map【2】The writer develops Paragraph 3 mainly by_________.A.analyzing dataB.giving examplesC.presenting reasonsD.making comparisons【3】According to the passage, “tea cosy” houses are better at __________.A.saving heat for energy efficiencyB.producing solar energy at homeC.designing and building materialsD.saving building materials and energy3.One of the Queen’s closest relatives and oldest friends was allowed to give a deep description into the family life of the Royals. Although there have been hundreds of other books declaring to offer a quick look behind the Palace doors, this is the first written by someone who is closely related to the Royal Family and has shared their lives—not only throughout the Queen’s reign (统治) but also through that of her father, King George VI.The Final Curtsey was written by her Majesty’s cousin and childhood playmate the Honorable Margaret Rhodes. It tells in details the story of Mrs. Rhodes’s relationship with the Royal family over eight decades. The book, with delightfully informal and never-before-seen pictures, has been written with the full knowledge of the Queen, who has read and approved parts of it.Born in 1925, the Honorable Margaret Rhodes has led an extraordinary life. She was the childhood playmate of her cousin, the Queen; a wartime M16 spy; and she was a lady-in- waiting (宫女) to her aunt, the Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, from 1991 until the latter’s death in 2002. At the Queen’s 80th birthday in April 2006, Margaret gave an interview to the BBC which she proved that, in her own opinion and despite several false reports, the Queen would not abdicate(退位).In this charming autobiography (自传),she told how she was offered a house to live in the Royal farm in Windsor Great Park unexpectedly. One day when she and the Queen were out riding outside, she suddenly returned and said, “Could you bear to live in the suburb?” “I think it should be OK.” Therefore Mrs. Rhodes is now still living there.【1】Compared with other books about the Royal Family, the biggest advantage of The Final Curtsey is that_______.A.its author is very famousB.its author knows the Queen wellC.it presents reader a very different QueenD.it has pictures that have never been seen【2】When Mrs. Rhodes was offered to live in the Royal farm, she was _______.A.unhappy B.surprisedC.sad D.disappointed【3】We can learn from Paragraph 3 that Mrs. Rhodes ________.A.has lived quite a long lifeB.was so famous that BBC interviewed herC.has a close relationship with the royal familyD.has been very busy and kept on changing jobs【4】The passage is mainly about________.A.a book about royal familyB.the Queen’s lifeC.the life of Margaret RhodesD.the Queen’s abdication二、其他根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

The Manhattan High Line is different. Raised 25 feet above the ground, this large metal structure once supported a rail line. The line opened in 1934 to bring trains directly into factories. It was hardly used after the 1960s, and much of it was torn down. However, one part remained in a region of Manhattan called Chelsea. Chelsea was becoming high-class as restaurants, art galleries and apartments were built, but the ugly railway structure remained as a dead weight. Everyone knew that at some time, it would have to be removed. But the High Line was not destroyed. In fact, now the old rail line serves as one of the most peaceful places in the city. It holds an elevated(高架的) park, with beautiful gardens and great views of the city. The idea to turn the rail line into a park came from Joshua David and Robert Hammond. In 1999, they attended a meeting to decide how to deal with the High Line. David and Hammond were the only people at the meeting interested in saving the historical structure. Later on, when they asked railway officials to take them up to look at the High Line, they saw a mile and a half of wild flowers growing in the middle of the city, and they realized that the High Line had potential(潜力) to become a park. There was growing interest in improving city centers, and so the project quickly developed and money for construction was easily collected. The first section of the High Line opened in 2009 and immediately became popular with tourists and locals alike. Each part of the park has a different atmosphere. Some areas are like balconies(阳台) with wonderful city views. Where the rail line goes between buildings, trees are thickly planted. Other sections have wide lawns(草坪) and walkways planted with wild flowers. Only the final section remains the way it has been for the last fifty years. 【1】What is the text mainly about?A.Protection of cultural relics.B.An unlikely place for a park.C.Improving city transport.D.Closing a train line.【2】The underlined part “a dead weight” (Paragraph 1) means__________.A.something with potential to be betterB.something with historical interestC.something useless which slows progressD.something which is a danger to people【3】Why did David and Hammond originally want to save the High Line?A.They thought it had historical value.B.They thought it would make a good park.C.They wanted to reopen the train line.D.They were interested in improving the city.【4】Why were people easily persuaded by David and Hammond’s idea?A.They wanted to see the wild flowers too.B.They realized the High Line was historically important.C.They wanted to make cities nicer places.D.They knew the project would bring in much money.【5】What can we learn about the High Line from the text?A.It was designed by David and Hammond.B.It began to be popular in the 1960s.C.Trains still use the line.D.Only part of the line remains.四、信息匹配任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下列材料,从所给的六个选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中,选出符合各小题要求的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

Butthere is no need for you to cut down on the number of holidays you’re having this year. Below are some of thecheapest places to travel to this year.Sri LankaGreat seafood, beautiful beaches, and amazing jungles await you in Sri Lanka. It is definitely one of the cheaper places to travel to as well. It will be possible for you to live in high-class hotels and resorts for as little as 70 dol lars a night! If you don’t want to spend that much money, you can find hostels, and smaller hotels for as little as 20 dollars a day. You can just spend the day exploring Anuradhapura or go adventuring inHabarana Lake as well!HungaryIt might be surprising to see Hungary on the list of cheap places to travel to this year. It is located in themost expensive continent on the earth, after all. However, Hungary is the country where you get rooms for aslittle as 16 Euros, and beer for about 4 Euros each! This is definitely a bargain! You can get a travel card touse the public transport throughout the country, and save quite a few dollars on that as well. Visitors can hike and swim in the beautiful lakes. 3.What can we learn about Greece? A. Greece has always been a cheap place to travel to, B. None of the tourist spots in Greece are expensive to visit. C. Visitors can learn Greek culture by hanging around on the streets. D. It’s not cheap to explore islands like Kefalonia. B Some parents can’t resist the strong des ire to help their children play hooky (逃学) for a trip. Five-year-old Erica and her siblings Alex, 9, and Kate, 12, missed school in Denver on Aug. 21, 2017. Their father Mr. Reed took them on a camping trip to Halsey to see the solar eclipse (日食). Kate had told her teachers she’d be absent and Mr. Reed let Erica’s and Alex’s teachers know, too. But he didn’t ask for permission. Mr. Reed has loved astronomy since seeing Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on his sixth birthday. He says, I want my own kids to have a similar kind of wonderment and hope about future discoveries. Parents often dream of traveling with their children to teach them about science, geography and culture. Many teachers support them, as the Reed children’s teachers did. Other teachers were angry about the extra work. Teacher Amanda says she feels frustrated when parents take students out of school for family trips. If she sends homework, she finds it’s often returned incomplete or incorrect, because the absent student didn’t hear her explanation in class. Some students suffer anxiety as they struggle to catch up. Research shows that students who are absent often, for any reason —excused or unexcused —performed more poorly in school. Garrick agreed to miss five days of school for the Antarctic trip last year as a senior high school student, however. Managing the homework was a challenge, but it helped him gain time management skills. And the trip is worth the effort, he says, sparking his interest in international relations. You can’t really put a price on changing your world view, Ga rrick says. That’s what travel has done for me. It has changed how I think about things. 4.What’s the teachers’ attitude toward “playing hooky”? A. They support it as it offers children hope about future discoveries. B. It angers them because the homework is often returned incorrect. C. They hold different kinds of views about playing hooky. D. They are against it because too many students are absent. 5.According to the passage, why do the students have a poorer performance in school? A. Because they are often absent for any reason. B. Because they are not interested in study at all. C. Because they travel with their parents too much. D. But they undervalue the function of napping in day.”For example, many Americans do nap. But one-third of adults in the US are also frequently tired. Someone who naps as a way of paying off a sleep debt may not experience the same improvements from napping as a healthy, well-rested person would. Also, many people may not want to admit that they take a nap. That only children, the very old, sick or lazy people nap is a common opinion. In fact, Americans sometimes do very strange things. For those who claim they only sleep five hours a night, they may think they are somehow stronger than the average human—superhuman, if you will.Luckily, many offices now offer napping rooms in many U. S. cities. While resting in the middle of the work day may seem like a luxury to Americans, napping is very much part of a normal, everyday life in other parts of the world.China, generally speaking, is a land of nappers. Researchers recently looked at information provided by nearly 3, 000 Chinese adults, aged 65 years or older. Based on their answers, researchers put them into four groups: non-nappers (0 minutes), short nappers (less than 30 minutes), moderate nappers (30-90minutes), and extended nappers (more than 90 minutes). The study found that the hour-long nappers did better on the tests than those who napped for shorter and longer periods. Keep in mind, however, that these are the findings for those over the age of 65.Michael Twery notes that an hour long nap may be too long for young, healthy adults. “Currently, 30 minutes is enough to remove the pressure to sleep and will help us feel more awake. If we nap longer, we will get trapped into sleep inertia—a very deep sleep period.”7.What does Michael Twery mean in the first paragraph?A. Most people have a sleep for a proper time.B.
