Hundreds of colorful wild flowers. Water running into little pools. Birds making their homes in boxes. The 9,500-square-metre Augustenborg Botanical Garden may look just like any other well-organized park, but there’s a difference. It lies on the roofs(屋顶) of industrial and office buildings in the city of Malmo in Sweden.Green roofs are not a new invention. And now they are getting popular again. The common roofs of a mode m city have endless black surfaces(表面) with no life or water. Perhaps that’s why a garden on a roof becomes such a perfect choice for more people.Green roofs are not just pretty. They also help to moderate the city temperature. The high temperatures on common roofs in summer can make top floor flats uncomfortably hot. What is more, they play a part in making the cities hotter than the countryside around them, causing the “urban heat-island effect”. On a green roof, however, with its plants and water, temperatures change only a little, as they do in a park. This can greatly cut the costs of heatingand cooling in the building below. Also, a green roof takes in rain water, and protects the city drainage system(排水系统). ________ And small animals and birds can make their homes on it. Thanks to this, the city may become part of nature, rather than something completely separate from it.While the cost of building such as roof can still be higher, it can be cheaper in the long term as a result of energy savings. And wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to walk out into a garden high above the city’s noise and traffic, whether you’re at school or in an office or just at home in a ten-floor block?1.With the example of Augustenborg Botanical Garden, the writer wants to explain ________.A.what a green roof is like B.how wildlife is protectedC.what to do with a spare roof D.how to organize a good park2.The underlined word “moderate” in Paragraph 3 is the closest in meaning to “________”.A.raise B.check C.control D.record3.Which of the following is the best sentence to fill in the blank in Paragraph 4?A.A common roof is noisy.B.A green roof is alive.C.A green roof stops pollution.D.A common roof increases the cost.4.The purpose of the passage is to ________.A.introduce the change of green roofs B.solve the problems with green roofsC.show the amazing beauty of green roofs D.describe the advantages(优点) of green roofs02(2023·辽宁朝阳·统考中考真题)Chinese researchers reached the top of Qomolangma on May 4, 2022. If so, you’ve experienced “hangry (饿怒)” —some people get angry easily as they are hungry. The reason for this lies in what happens inside your body when it needs food.Everything you eat would be changed into different kinds of nutrients (营养物质) in your body. These nutrients would enter your blood and be passed to every part of your body and be used for creating energy. As time passes after your last meal, these nutrients in your blood drop. Also, your blood glucose (血糖) drops. Unlike other parts in your body, your brain totally depends on blood glucose to do its job. You’ve probably already noticed that simple things can become difficult when you are hungry and your blood glucose levels drop. You may find it hard to pay attention. For example, you may make silly mistakes in your study and homework. You might also have noticed that you can’t even speak clearly when you’re too hungry.Another thing that happens when you’re hungry is behaving impolitely and can’t control yourself, such as snapping at others. In that case, even though you may already try your best to avoid conflict (冲突) with important friends, you may still be too angry to control yourself when you are staying with the people you are most relaxed with. That’s why you may find yourself being impatient with your parents or friends. So what should we do to avoid being hangry? The easiest way is to eat something before you get too hungry. The best choice is to have some nutrient - rich and natural foods that help deal with hunger quickly and can be kept in our body as long as possible, but not fast food. The final way is to suggest that difficult situations should be dealt with after a meal, not before.17.When does “hangry” usually happen?A.When the body needs food.B.When nutrients enter your body.C.When the blood glucose levels drop.D.When it’s hard for you to pay attention.18.What does the underlined words “snapping at” mean in Chinese?A.称赞B.呵斥C.嘲笑D.帮助19.Which paragraphs tell the influence of being hangry?A.①②B.②③C.③④D.④⑤20.Which is one of the ways to deal with hunger?A.Eat something after you get too hungry.B.Stay with people you are most relaxed with.C.Deal with difficult situations after meals.D.Eat a little junk food before you are hungry.21.Who is the text written for?A.Doctors.B.Teachers.C.Parent.D.Students.06(2022秋·山东菏泽·九年级统考期中)Have you ever thought about why you are the way you are? And what does your personality(性格)connect with? Recent research has showed that the position(位置)in which we are born in our family plays a very important role in forming personality. The eldest childBeing the only child, the eldest enjoys all their parents’ attention. However, new parents usually expect to see their child do well. And the eldest child tries to meet these expectations. As a result, the eldest children are usuallypolite and traditional. The problems come with the birth of another child. Suddenly the attention they’re used to receiving becomes weaker. Then, they don’t feel safe and will try to do all they can to make their parents happy. The second childThe second child has no experience of life without a brother or sister, so they never know how their brothers or sisters feel when they suddenly have to share the attention. The second children are often more outgoing and always looking for ways to get attention. One of the most common ways to achieve this is by making people laugh and the second children are often the jokers of the family. Again, problems can appear when another baby arrives. Suddenly, the second child becomes the middle child and may lose a clear sense(意识)of where they are.The third childWith the birth of their third baby, parents will often feel this is their last chance to bring up a child. This means the youngest child, more often than not, is spoilt(溺爱)with attention and love. This can lead them to be very self-centered, believing that the world moves around them. They are always treated as the “baby” of the family so they don’t do as well as they could do. They like doing things in unexpected ways, so they are also likely to be creative. 22.What influences people’s personality according to the text?A.Birth place.B.Birth weight.C.Birth order.23.What does the underlined word “they” refer to in the text?A.The eldest children.B.The second children.C.The parents.24.Compared to the first child, the second child is _________ according to the text.A.more polite and traditionalB.more humorous and outgoingC.more creative and confident25.According to the text, if Tom thinks mainly about himself and always has new ideas, he might be _________.A.the eldest child B.the second child C.the third child07(2022秋·山东菏泽·九年级统考期中)It is said that tea can improve creative power(力量) of the literary(文学的) artists in ancient China.According to Lu Yu’s Cha Jing, tea-drinking in China can be traced back(追溯) to the Zhou Dynasty—tea was discovered by Shen Nong and became popular as a drink in the State of Lu because of Zhou Gong.Tea-drinking in China has a long history of four thousand years. The handful of guests watched in awe —and a little trepidation惊恐— as the majestic animal, who appeared to be searching for a tasty morsel, calmly explored the various areas of the restaurant. Fortunately for the humans, nothing on the “menu” seemed to catch the leopard’s fancy, and it left as abruptly as it had arrived.Erika Wiese, who captured the footage of the leopard walking through the restaurant, told Kruger Sightings that she and the other guests were alerted to the predator’s arrival by the alarm calls sounded by surrounding vervet monkeys. Also known as savanna monkeys, the smart mammals communicate the presence of each of their four-known predators — leopards, eagles, baboons, and pythons — with a unique call, allowing other members oftheir species to respond accordingly. For example, the short tonal call signaling a leopard is nearby cause the monkeys to scramble into trees, while the low-pitched grunts, indicating the presence of eagles, warns them to keep an eye on the skies. The leopard, however, was not interested in the monkeys, but instead appeared to be in search of a bushbuck, or African antelope, that it had been stalking in a nearby riverbed earlier in the day. Wiese says, “The sighting ended with the leopard strolling calmly away from the deck area and out of sight towards the bushbuck who you can hear alarm calling at the end.”Wiese says that thanks to the lodge’s well-trained staff, who are experienced at dealing with wild animal visits, and the strict safety rules in place, the guests all remained calm. She gushes, “We felt complete awe, reverence, respect, and gratitude. What a rare experience to have such an encounter with a leopard. The situation proved that wildlife and people can live and interact with each other in harmony and respect.”Located adjacent to Kruger National Park in South Africa, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is home to a wide variety of animals, including over 144 mammal, 500 bird, 30 amphibian, and 110 reptile species. However, the area’s main attraction is the presence of the Big Five — lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos — which roam the game park in abundance.7.

English is a global language that has become increasingly important in today's interconnected world. As students progress through their academic careers, developing strong reading comprehension skills in English is crucial for success. This essay aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the key components and strategies for effective English reading comprehension, specifically tailored for 7th-grade students. One of the fundamental aspects of reading comprehension is vocabulary development. Students at this age should focus on expanding their knowledge of academic and subject-specific vocabulary. This can be achieved through systematic vocabulary instruction, exposure to diverse reading materials, and consistent practice in context. Mastering word roots, prefixes, and suffixes can also aid in deciphering the meaning of unfamiliar terms. In addition to vocabulary, 7th-grade students should hone their understanding of grammar and sentence structure. Recognizing parts of speech, identifying sentence elements, and analyzing therelationships between clauses can greatly enhance a student's ability to comprehend complex texts. Exercises that involve sentence manipulation, such as transforming active voice to passive voice or rearranging sentence components, can be particularly beneficial.Another crucial aspect of reading comprehension is the ability to identify and analyze the main ideas and supporting details within a text. This skill involves distinguishing between essential and non-essential information, recognizing the author's purpose, and understanding the overall organization and structure of the passage. Strategies such as close reading, annotation, and the use of graphic organizers can help students effectively navigate and comprehend the central themes and key points of a text.Inference-making is another essential component of reading comprehension. 7th-grade students should be able to read between the lines, draw logical conclusions, and make inferences based on the information provided in the text. This skill requires the integration of prior knowledge, contextual clues, and textual evidence to construct meaning beyond the literal level.Furthermore, the ability to critically evaluate and analyze the content and style of a text is a valuable skill for 7th-grade students. This involves assessing the author's perspective, recognizing rhetorical devices, and evaluating the validity and reliability of the informationpresented. Engaging in discussions, writing analytical responses, and comparing and contrasting multiple texts can help students develop these critical thinking skills.Lastly, effective reading comprehension requires the application of flexible reading strategies. Students should be able to adapt their approach based on the genre, purpose, and complexity of the text. This may include skimming for main ideas, scanning for specific information, close reading for detailed understanding, and rereading to clarify or deepen comprehension. In conclusion, developing strong English reading comprehension skills is a crucial aspect of a 7th-grade student's academic journey. By focusing on vocabulary development, grammar and sentence structure, identifying main ideas and supporting details, making inferences, critically analyzing texts, and employing flexible reading strategies, students can enhance their ability to understand and engage with a wide range of English-language materials. Consistent practice, targeted instruction, and a commitment to continuous improvement will enable 7th-grade students to become proficient and confident readers in the English language.。

That is the claim of psychologists who have found that tapping away on a mobile phone or computer keypad or checking them for electronic messages temporarily knocks up to ten points off the user's IQ. This rate of decline in intelligence compares unfavorably with the four-point drop in IQ associated with smoking marijuana, according to British researchers, who have labeled the fleeting phenomenon of enhanced stupidity as infomania.Research on sleep deprivation suggests that the IQ drop caused by electronic obsession is also equivalent to a wakeful night. Infomania is mainly a problem for adult workers, especially men, as the study commissioned by Hewlett Packard, the technology company, has concluded. The noticeable drop in IQ is attributed to the constant distraction of always on technology when employees should be concentrating on what they are paid to do. Infomania means that they lose concentration as their minds remain fixed in an almost permanent state of readiness to react to technology instead of focusing on the task in hand. Workers lose productivity by interrupting a business meeting and disrupt social gatherings because of their infirmity, the report said. The brain also finds it hard to cope with juggling lots of tasks at once, reducing its overall effectiveness, it added. And while modern technology can have huge benefits, excessive use can be damaging not only to a person's mind, but to their social life.Furthermore, infomania is having a negative effect on work colleagues, increasing stress and dissenting feelings. Nine out of ten polled thought that colleagues who answered e-mails or messages during a face-to-face meeting were extremely rude. Yet one in three Britons believes that it is not only acceptable, but actually diligent and efficient to do so.The effects on IQ were studied by Dr Glenn Wilson, a University of London psychologist, as part of the research project. This is a very real and widespread phenomenon, he said. We have found that infomania, if unchecked, will damage a worker's performance by reducing their mental sharpness. Companies should encourage a more balanced and appropriate way of working.

If the scholastic achievement of highly intelligent children remains below average for an extended period, many teachers will fail to recognize their potential. As a result, such students may not get the encouragement they need, further depressing their desire to learn. They may fall far behind in their schoolwork and even develop behavior problems. Boys may turn aggressive or become class clowns. Girls often develop performance anxiety and psychosomatic symptoms such as stomachaches.
Acceleration or Enrichment?
Highly gifted children solve the most varied thought problems faster and more thoroughly than those with more average aptitudes do. Because these children speed through the regular curriculum for their grade, they need additional intellectual stimulation while they wait for the rest of the kids to learn the basics. Two central approaches are used to satisfy the educational needs of such children: acceleration and enrichment. Acceleration means studying material that is part of the standard curriculum for older students. Enrichment involves learning information that falls outside the usual curriculum---say, investigating a topic in greater depth or finding out about new topics.

Enrichment activities can provide for very bright kids.

Gifted Children: how to bring out their potential如何发挥天才儿童的潜力Contrary to what many people believe, highly intelligent children are not necessarily destinedfor academic success. In fact, so-called gifted students may fail to do well because they are usually smart. Ensuring that a gifted child reaches his or her potential requires an understanding of what can go wrong and how to satisfay the unusual learning requirements of extrememly bright young people.

One common problem gifted kids face is that they, and those around them, place too much importance on being smart. Such an emphasis can breed a belief that bright people do not have to work hard to do well. Although smart kids may not need to work hard in the lower grades, when the work is easy, they may struggle and perform poorly when the work get harder because they do not make the effort to learn. In some cases, they may not know how to study, having never done it before. In others, they simply can’t accept the fact that some tasks require effort.

One way to avoid such difficulties is to recognize that IQ is just one ingredient among many in the recipt for success. Children thrive or struggle in school for a host of reasons apart from IQ, according to psychologist Franz Monks of the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands. These include motivation and persistence, social competence, and the support of family, educators and friends. Emphasizing the importance of persistence and hard work, for example, will help a child avoid the laziness trap. Gifted children also need intellectual challenges---to teach them how to work hard.

Acceleration or Enrichment? Highly gifted children solve the most varied thought problems faster and more thoroughly than those with more average aptitudes do. Enrichment involves learning information that falls outside the usual curriculum---say, investigating a topic in greater depth or finding out about new topics.

One way to accelerate children is through early schooling, a term that refers to expanding educational opportunities to children younger than five years. Such schooling may be very beneficial: one extraordinary talented little boy I met had learned to read fluently even before entering school.

A child might also skip one or more grades as a way of accelerating in school. But being with older children for the entire school day---and perhaps for grade-based extracurricular activities such as sports—can make a child feel inferior in every realm outside of academics. One very bright fourth-grader who had skipped two grades remained far ahead of his classamates intellectually, but as his classmates reached puberty, his social and other shortcomings became painfully apparent. To compensate, he began to brag about how smart he was, and his classmates responded by calling him “crazy ” and “show-off” and by totally excluding him from their social life.
