(1)动名词作主语
我们先来看下第一个句子Finding ways to assist this growing
homeless population has become increasingly difficult.这个句子虽然比较长，而且动词也不止一个，但我们仔细分析之后就可以发现，这个句子的
重要动词即谓语动词是has become, finding ways to assist this
growing homeless population是非谓语动词做主语。该部分没有动词，但仍然充当主语，它又不是从句，而finding是动词的ing形式,v-ing,本应该是名词，此处是动名词充当主语。在从句的名词性语法中我们已经知道，从句代替名词充当成分，充当什么成分，就叫什么从句。而此处是动名词代替名词，充当主语，所以我们可以将其叫为动名词做主语。用动名词短语充当句子的成分，充当的是主语，就把它叫做动名词短语做主语。Has become是谓语，但是该怎么翻译呢?Finding ways to找到方法，assist是help的高级替换词，找到方法是帮助增长的无家可归人口，已经变得困难。Increasingly是副词，可以修饰动词、形容词，一般能翻译为“越来越....”。所以此处可以翻译为：找到方法来解决增长的无家可归人口已经变得越来越难。此处只是ing的动名词结构而已，用法和名词一样。在翻译时，顺译就可以了。
(2)不定式作主语
我们还是先从句子入首，用例句进行分析。To err is humanto
forgive,divine.Err有没有觉得很熟悉?这个词其实来自于“error错误”这个单词。Error是名词“错误”，err则是动词，犯错误。什么意思呢?犯错是人类。在后面的句子to forgive,divine.中其实涉及到一个省略的问题，如果还原应该to forgive is divine.Is则被省略掉变成了逗号。Divine神圣的。这句话大概的意思是：犯错的是人类，宽恕是神仙。但是无论如何读起来都会觉得很别扭。有人将其翻译为“人非圣贤，孰能无过”，这样也是可以的，但是就让人觉得在美感上有所欠缺。 中公英语老师觉得有一个台湾作家翻译的不错，他将其翻译为：犯错，人皆难免宽恕，则属超凡。这样就可以更为忠实的表达句子的意思，在语言的优美程度上也更为合适。

英汉翻译历来是英语考试，特别是考研英语的必备题型。随着考研英语试题难度的加大，英汉翻译也从简单的句子翻译上升到从某一语篇中抽取几个语段的较高难度的翻译。纵观考研英语英汉翻译试题，不难发现所提供的语篇基本没有生词、难词，但是要将划线的5个句子忠实、准确、完整、通顺地翻译出来却并非易事。基于此，笔者尝试以语篇性为切入口，对整个语篇作出分析，以期获得翻译的有效途径。
一、语篇
语言学家因研究的侧重点不同对语篇有不同的定义。韩礼德认为，语篇是一个具有完整意义的语义单位(semantic unit)，而不是一个语法单位(grammatical unit)。［1］胡壮麟提出:“语篇指任何不完全受句子约束的一定语境下表示完整意义的自然语言。”［2］黄国文认为:“语篇通常是指一系列连续的话段或句子构成的语言整体。”［3］
第一本英文版的text linguistics专著Introduction to Text Linguistics由Beaugrande和Dressler于1981年合著出版。他们从人类的交际(communication)视角来描写和阐释text的构成，把text定义为“满足语篇性(textuality)七个标准的交际性产物(communicative occurrence)”。［4］(P4)同时认为，一个语篇必须满足这七个标准，否则该text就不具备交际性。
综上所述，语篇(text)是语言交际过程的产物，应该合乎语法、语义连贯，包括与外界在语义上和语用上的连贯，也包括语篇内在的语言上的连贯。 二、语篇性
语篇语言学与语篇、参与者、语境三个方面有着密切的联系。这三个方面决定了语篇应该满足七个标准:衔接(cohesion)、连贯(coherence)、目的性(intentionality)、可接受性(acceptability)、信息性(informativity)、情景性(situationality)和篇际性即互文性(intertextuality)。
