我们来看个例句:Tylor defined culture as “...that complex whole which includes belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.这句话是2003年翻译64题，属于一个典型的长难句。
首先对句子的分析应该遵循一个原则：将长句子划分成长度适中的采分点，然后在进行逐个理解。
所以我们要知道有哪些标志可以作为划分依据：标点、连词和介词、分词、不定式短语类标志词。
依照先后顺序进行分析，以上三类都可以有效地把一个句子成分变得相对清晰。
我们先来按照这三个要素按步骤实施：1. 标点：本句中只出现了逗号，逗号成为划分句子的依据但是不绝对，在本句中，逗号的作用主要是并列一些成分相同的单词，所以很难把句子划分清楚。
2. 标点不行，第二步我们可以看连词，过对语法的学习，听到连词应该在脑海里马上想到连词是分类两类的，一类是并列连词，一类从属连词。
我们先找并列连词，按顺序会发现有两个and，但是这两个and并列的都是一些单词，这些单词是一个整体，所以也不能断开。
那么这时我们可以找从属连词，句中首先出现了that，但是这个that后面连接的不是一个句子，而是一个短语complex whole，所以that在本句中只是一个代词，不是从属连词，这里不断开，我们再往后看，发现有个从属连词which 引导一个定语从句，所以我们可以从这里断开。
