Unit 5 Why do you like pandas?

Hello, everyone. My name is Peng Dan. I’m glad to be here to share my teaching ideas with you . My presentation consists of five parts.

I. Analysis of the Teaching Material

1.Staus and function

This lesson is the last period in Section B Unit 5 Why do you like pandas. This lesson focuses on speaking and writing. In this lesson, the

students will learn to talk about their favorite animals. Also, the students will be able to use five-step writing skills to describe their favorite animals and give their reasons. Also, they will have the awareness to protect the animals.

Ⅱ. Analysis of students

As for the students of Grade 7, they have learned some words about animals and they have had some basic abilities of speaking and writing. But they still have some difficu lties in using English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some students aren’t active in class because they are afraid of making mistakes.

Ⅲ. Teachingmethods and Learning strategies.

1. Teaching methods:

In order to better achieve the three

teaching goals, stress the key points and overcome the difficult points, Task-based Te aching Method, Audio-visual Teaching Method and Communicative Teaching Method will be adopted. Task- based Teaching Method can help to

retain the students’ attention while

Communicative Teaching Method can improve the students’ ability of language using.

2. Learning methods:

According to the New Curriculum Reform, my teaching should embody student-cente red. So students should combine Inquiring Learning Method, Autonomous Learning Method with Cooperative Learning Method, which can encourage them to learn Engli sh independently and cooperatively.

ⅤTeaching objectives

1. Knowledge and ability goals:

a. To get the students to learn the useful new words and expressions in this lesson.

b. To let the students master how to describe animals.

c. To train students to master five-step writing skills.

3. Emotional goals:

To call on the students to try their best to protect the animals.

Ⅳ. Teaching Key and Difficult Points

1.Key points: Learn to express likes and and give reasons.

2.Difficult points: Collect and arrange the information about the animals and to finish a complete and beautiful composition.

Ⅶ. Teaching Procedures

Step 1. Free talk

1. T: Boys and girls, do you like animals?

Ss: Yes, we do.

T: So, what animals do you like? And why?

Ask students to answer my questions one by one.

The design purpose: To arose students interest at the beginning of the class. And it can help them review the words of animals and some description words of this unit . What’s more, it can also help them make preparations for the basic words and expressions that they will use later in the writing.

Step 2. Preparation

1. Pair work

1. Show pictures of some animals and some description words. Ask them to make conversations like this:

A: What animals do you like? B:I like...

A: Where are they from? B: They’re from...

A: Why do you like them? B:Because...

The design purpose: Through the conversation, I can let students review the target language by asking and answering. From which I will enable most of the students join the class activities. On one side, it can improve the students’ enthusiasm of learning English. On the other side, it can make them become more confident through such an interesting and easy task.

Step 3. Practice

1.Work on 3a.

The design purpose: This step is to check if the students have mastered the main words and some sentences patterns. As well as providing them a material to imitate the composition.

Step 4. Learn to write

1.Show students how to use the basic steps to read a complete composition.

The design purpose: In this step, I choose the Dingding from 2d in their textbook to train their writing skills. For most students often have difficulties in writing and fail to get good grades in writing. So I asked students to join me to finish this writing task With my guidance, I think students will have a clear understanding of the basic writing steps. And learn how to write a composition with rich content and complete frame.

Step 5 While-Writing

In this step, I asked students to write their own compositions. At the same time, I will ask one student to write on the blackboard.

The design purpose: In this step, I will give them 10 minutes to write their own compositions. Before writing I will remind them to use the basic writing steps to finish the task. So it will be a good way to check if they can apply the knowledge and skills they learned in the real situation.

Step 6 Learn to evaluate

After they finished writing, I will give an example to them about how to evaluate a composition according to the evaluation tips on PPT for them.

The design purpose: By exchange their writing with their partners, they can have a

feeling of being a teacher. It will make them feel a little happy and proud. So they will put more effort in editing and checking others’ composition. So I can achieve my goal of helping students learn how to evaluate a composition. At the same time, they can learn from each other, and think back to their writing and get some inspirations from others and avoid making the similar mistakes when they write next time.

Step 7 Summary

Summarize what we have learnt in this class.

The d esign purpose: I think it’s necessary to make a summary after each class. Because it will help them review and check the knowledge and skills they have learned during the class.

Step 8 Progress

I will ask students to finish a short test in the last five minutes of my class.

The design purpose: This step is useful to help them consolidate their knowledge and check their abilities one student by one student. What’s more it will help me to check my teaching effects and make me to teach better and improve my teaching abilities in the future.

Ⅸ. Teaching Reflection

During my teaching, I find the time was very limited. I felt it was a pity that I didn’t give the students time to present their writing papers and correct their mistakes, which I thought I should keep in mind for future teaching. For this pity, I think I should change my teaching from the following aspects: First, I should make enough preparations for my teaching language and make it simple and short to let students understand what I said quickly and clearly. Second, I should leave out or simplify some procedures that are unimportant in my class. Since it will make my teaching process more clearly and fluent. Last but not the least, I should design my lesson according to the teaching outline and set up the tasks within their ability.

As for students, although most of the students have practiced as I hoped. But they are still not good at writing and afraid to write. So I think it’s never too late to realize the importance of writing class. Since it is not only a way to check their their knowledge but also the best way to improve their comprehensive application ability in real situation .
