Personal statement for a Ph. D. Program
如何写Personal-Statement(个人陈述)

U of Washington 的admission officer指出,他们会把申请者分成四等: "Admit with guaranteed funding, Admit with potential funding, Tabled (a sort of admissions purgatory), and Reject." It is in the case of "Tabled" and "Admit with potential funding" applications, the admissions officer reports, that the personal statement can make areal difference: "If there is a good match between the applicant's research interests and the particular strengths of the school, this can bump them up a level or two in the hierarchy of admission."

Having acted as Managing Director on a Young Enterprise Team whilst doing my ‘AS’ levels, I came up with innovative ideas that made a very successful company. Having held management positions within Human Resources, Operations, and Finance, I quickly realised that pursuing a management degree at university would be ideal for me.After my GCSE’s, I held a temporary job as a junior in an Insolvency practice, in order to gain work experience. Having to work to tight deadlines taught me how to workindependently as part of a professional team. I learnt that in business, if one person lacks productivity, then everyone else can suffer, and also how to motivate others as a means of preventing such issues. I used the skills learnt to enhance my role as the Managing Director of my young Enterprise company, particularly methods of motivation and delegation, and the significance of being accountable for others. Having spent nearly three years working part time in a Health food shop alongside my studies, I developed my communication skills, with both colleagues and customers, and proved to be a trustworthy employee.Being appointed as Deputy Head Boy in the sixth form was a great honour to me. My skills were greatly enhanced by holding this position, as I would often have to listen, and respond toissues brought up by fellow prefects, and students lower down the school. Through activities such as Lunch duty, I learnt the worth of different leadership skills, and that it is important to treat everyone as an individual in order to get results. I was always keen to stay into the evening to help out at school events.Socialising is very important to me, and I am always keen to meet new people. I enjoy tryingnew foods to increase my knowledge of different cultures, and my culinary skills will prove very useful in independent university life. I enjoy travelling, and learning about modern history. Having recently returned from Prague, I visited a concentration camp. This was a moving experience for me, and something I will never forget. Music is one of my biggest hobbies, and I use music to help me unwind and reflect on things. I use the internet to keep up with current affairs and sports news.I have always been a keen sportsman, representing my school in many sporting activities. I enjoy running, particularly competing in sprint races, but also long distance running as a means of keeping fit. I always try to go for a run every evening, during breaks between my A Level studies. I represented my school as a keen member of the district and Maccabi Great Britain athletics teams, particularly in the relay. I formally played tennis and table tennis in national competitions, and more recently I have played in football, rugby, and cricket leagues outside of school.I believe that my experiences have prepared me for independent university life. My social skills together with my ambition to succeed in life prove me to be good candidate for a Management Degree. Personal StatementI have been greatly fascinated by chemistry since my first exposure to the Periodic Table of Elements. The natural order of the first 12 elements, discovered approximately 450 years ago, made it possible for the elements to be placed on a chart consisting of rows and columns, such that elements sharing a column were discovered to have similar characteristics. This led Russian scientist Dmitry Mendeleyev to predict the existence of the element with the atomic number 32, germanium, as well as its colour, weight, density, and melting point. The predicted elements have since been discovered and I was greatly marvelled at this feat amongst many others. My interest in chemistry has been further stimulated as I have continued to learn more about the characteristics of the individual elements, the nature of their atoms, and how they form familiar chemical compounds that are particularly critical to the existence of life and the practice of medicine.Arriving at the decision to study Applied Chemistry took me quite some time. This was because I was determined to find out where my interests really lie as I excelled in most of my Science subjects. However, I knew that I love experimenting in Chemistry and also that it is one of my favourite subjects. I dutifully attended a number of career sessions and open days for science subjects at various universities, and the ones focussing on Chemistry left a lasting impression on me. Also, I took time to visit one or two commercial chemistry-oriented laboratories in my area to talk with the chemists there. Their experiences have reinforced my love for the subject. They helped me to understand the wide variety of careers available for a graduate with a good knowledge of Chemistry, i.e. research, pharmaceuticals, and even environmental management. The prospect of a career in researchand pharmaceuticals is of great interest to me. At this point, I was finally convinced that studies in Chemistry and a career in research in the same subject is what I wanted to pursue, this is largely due to my love for Chemistry as a science. My interest in Chemistry was consolidated by my work experience at ChangZhou University Chemistry Department. The more advanced Chemistry I wasexposed to –in textbooks, discussions and practical work ensured me that I would be interested in degree level Chemistry. My work mainly consisted of brominating an aromatic, which would produce an intermediate for stem-cell research. This taught me valuable practical skills, such as the use of Schlenk apparatus, column separation and rotary evaporation. Working with a research team made me particularly attracted to courses offering an opportunity to take part in research. Using analytical machinery, such as NMR, on compounds that I had produced excitingly brought what had been theory in a textbook into practical reality. The desire for more of these moments is one of my main motivations for studying Chemistry. In addition, I regularly engage in further reading online, e.g. the Oxford pre-University Chemistry Course. This has expanded my interest in Chemistry syllabus.Nevertheless, I am acutely aware that, in the research fields I am interested in, there are still so many difficult subjects and challenges awaiting for solution. In physical chemistry, China is relatively backward in the fields of catalyst development, catalyst inactivation, reaction dynamics, reaction mechanism, geochemical reaction mechanism, environmental-chemical reaction mechanism. In analytical chemistry, China lags relatively behind its Western counterparts in areas such as instrumentalanalysis and theoretical analytical chemistry. Basically, China relies on import for large-scale analytical instruments. By contrast, the United States has many world-leading academic specialists and encourages interdisciplinary programs. It will accord me a stimulating and liberal academic environment, apart from the sophisticated research facilities. Rice University is my top priority in applying for a Ph.D. program and I choose to specialize in physical chemistry or in analytical chemistry. At Rice University, I plan to learn broader-based foundational theories in my chosen fields. With my solid interdisciplinary knowledge and my ability for the quick assimilation of new knowledge, I intend to secure for myself a RA status to directly start my laboratory research under the guidance of my future advisor. I can also work as TA so that I can study while teaching and conducting my internship. I can apply, test and consolidate the theoretical knowledge that I acquire in the process of internship and degree program. Finally, through theoretical study and scientific research, I would endeavor to produce a well-written dissertation in which I hope to achieve some breakthroughs on both the theoretical and the research level. After obtaining my Ph.D. degree, I intend to enter one of the top research institutes to delve deeper into some challenging subjects and to achieve some research fruits. After accumulating certain research experience at an actual research institute, I plan to return to China to work as a professor at a leading Chinese university, a position which will enable me to train many more academic professionals in physical or analytical chemistry. At the same time, I will also dedicate myself to turning my laboratory research results into yet more patents and inventions, which can further be developed into products with pragmatic applications. My passion for Chemistry stems from an appetite to understand the physical world around me, and I eagerly anticipate the enhancement of understanding that degree level Chemistry will bring.Signature:________________________Date:____________________________个人陈述英文范文:Personal StatementMy great curiosity about camera lens is rooted in a television interview when I was still a young girl. Hunan Television Station held a talent show called Super Girl Voice in 2004. I was a student in high school at that time, and I found the high audience rating brought huge viewers and the advertisers. It also made mass media to be a hot industry. I thought that was a potential job which would provide opportunities; prospects and material conditions for me to take off. Therefore I determined to choose mass communication to be my major.I am very proud to study in Communication University of China Nanjing College, which is the tiptop communication and media institution of higher education in China. During my undergraduate study, I find myself has been strongly attached to this specific territory. Achieving 82 of the GPA proved that I am an excellent student in my class. I learned basic methodology and theories of Broadcasting and TV program Editor and mass communication. There is no doubt that practice makes perfect. For that reason I have applied for my professional internship as a TV editor in Yueyang Broadcasting & Television Co. Ltd, which is the largest and most authoritative media company in Yueyang. During that intern work I applied what I acknowledged at school to actual process of producing television program, which includes programme scheming, transcribe programme, editingand broadcasting.Writing scripts and shooting films with my classmates is also my favourite. During the creation process, we exchanged our ideas and discussed about the problems of scripts, performing and postproduction .It is benefit from my strong sense of team work. Being a member of the university’s volleyball team instill the idea of ‘team work’ deep inside me. That is the very spirit which made my short film ‘timeline’, a cooperated film work, won the 3rd rate prize of ‘the 5th International Film Work Selection Practice’. No pain no gain!Emerging technologies is rapidly changing the media map. Internet, wireless communications and digital video technology are creating a new communications environment. Our world is becoming a earth village gradually which metioned by Canadian professor Marshall McLuhan first time in his in 1967. With the recent tendency of globalization, I wish to pursue my study in media communication. To find out how the methods and perspectives of media communication affect the ultimate communication effects and what global media can do to serve their social responsibility better under a globalization circumstances. The reason why I choose UK is because I am crazy about English TV drama Like ,, and so on.

出国留学个人陈述 Personal Statement(4600字)

出国留学个人陈述Personal Statement(4600字)Personal Statement“What a naughty girl! You must always keep what I am about to say in your mind. This abacus is so important to me that the loss of it equals to the loss of my job for making a living.” This wa s what my grandfather told me seriously after I broke his abacus when I was a child. He was the financial director in his pany so that abacus was the most vital tool to him when calculators were not widely used. Since then, accounting has been a sacred concept in my mind, I learned the importance of accountant in a pany from many receipts and seals in grandfather’s desk and the central location of his office in his pany.I started to learn professional knowledge about accounting systematically when I entered university and focused on the major of ACCA. Apart from double-entry accounting and financial statement, I also mastered the knowledge of financial management, corporate governance, risk management and professional ethics. And I passed the national exam of ACCA, this is all because of my own way to study, I never took notes but pondered over what teachers said in class and took notes after class based on my memory as the review of the knowledge that teachers taught me.Innovation and carefulness are also my great qualities. In my third year in university, teacher required us to research on the bribery case of Siemens in groups and make report and presentation after research. We chose the perspective of professional ethics of management rather than construction structure and risk management like other groups as our research topic and we used the knowledge of Kohlberg’s cognitive moral development model to analyze the personal ethics factor and corporate social responsibility proceeded from stakeholders. We can’t allow anymistakes so that every link was crystallized our carefulness and patience. Finally, we used the software Prezi who are more visual other than Power Point to show our result of research and won everyone’s praise.Among all the petitions and activities I took part in during university, the CIMA Global Business Challenge in 2021 was the most meaningful one. Before that, I formed a team to take part in CIMA in 2021 once. Because of the inappropriate arrangement of team members, we failed. The results taught me that as a team leader, I should arrange each member according to their ability and make everyone do their best. So, we started over again in 2021. In preliminary contest, we were required to make a report of a toy pany. bining with the pany’s business scope, supply chain, financial condition, personnel aspects and several projects such as launch and purchase plan, we summed up seven problems to research on and allocating them to each member appropriately. We discussed and deliberated every night to deal with the problems and made solutions together. There were arguments during our discussion inevitably, we consulted some authorities to give us some useful suggestions and help us deal with arguments. Finally we finished the report of more than 20 pages after ten days. We had confidence in our report because of the effort we made. Then we cut out the duck and entered the top 6 in east china division. Unfortunately, we must take the national exam of ACCA at the time of final match. We had to be discriminating so we withdrew from the petition at last. We all think that the process we worked together is the most precious experience we should treasure.During undergraduate years in China, I learned many knowledge about accounting from books but didn’t have chances to put these knowledge into practice. Thus, I want to get more opportunities to improve my practical skills during my graduate years abroad. I also want to find a part-time job to get some internship experiences. After my graduate schooling, I prefer to work in audit pany, such as the big four accounting firms, to promote my profession skill in accounting and temper my will. I believe I can improve myself better under high pressure in these top panies. Financial services industry is also an field I desire to enter in the future. Now I am working in CBC. Doing cash business and non-cash business, dealing with clients’ consultations, rechecking the cash business and promoting credit card and Insurance are my main job. I have a great mind to make up my deficiency in finance by the study during graduate years. The leading position and family culture philosophy of Citibank attracts my eyes extremely. So the Citibank is also a perfect choice for me to make efforts to work in. Now I am ready to start my graduate study abroad to enrich myself.

留学文书写作范例-组织行为学(个人陈述)Personal StatementApplied Program:Organizational BehaviorThe purpose behind this personal statement is to not only gain admission to your well-established and highly respected Ph.D. program, but to impress upon you my passion for learning and my tremendous desire to succeed in both scholastic1 research and in teaching on the professional level. I have based my decision to pursue an academic career not on purely2 practical reasons, but rather on my own natural interests and aptitude3. My personal philosophy is that money and social status should not be pursued as life-consuming objectives and that in actuality they are the by-products of goals originating from one’s inner needs. I understand that my intellectual capacity is a gift, and I intend to use this gift to the very best of my substantial capabilities4.I am interested in the field of study of Organizational Behavior. In the past, I have had the experience of workingin settings where the people and the corporate5 cultures of the companies were all different. I have found that there isa great difference in the both the behaviors of people and oftheir organizations, depending on whether they are state-owned enterprises (SOEs), large multinational6 firms, or small to medium sized foreign enterprises. One simple example is that of the ability of an employee to act independently without direct instructions from his or her boss. In many Chinese organizations, acting7 without direct instructions is considered a form of disrespect towards the supervisor8, who is generally offended by such behavior. In my experience and research, such organizations tend to have low operating efficiency with the employees losing their innate9 ability to take the initiative. In contrast, foreign enterprises tend to welcome employees who have the ability to make decisions on their own, though the extent to which this is true depends on whether the supervisor is a local Chinese or an expatriate. These organizations have comparatively higher operating efficiency and employees enjoy greater job satisfaction. My research and observations have shown me that only a small fraction of Chinese employees are well adapted to the working methods of the foreign enterprises. Many are accustomed to merely having others make the decisions for them and are not experienced at taking on some reasonableresponsibilities. What accounts for the different behaviors of these people and their organizations? My observations and personal experience have greatly aroused my interest in studying this subject. I am interested in determining the specific factors that determine the different behaviors of employees and how they work together to form the behavior of the organization, as well as finding ways to modify such behaviors to make for a more healthy and properly functioning organization. In all of the various fields that I have worked in, such as international trade, marketing10 and office administration, I have found that the most important factor in successful businesses lies in how the business is able to exploit its resources to meet the needs of its target markets. Human resources ultimately make possible the full utilization11 of the other resources, even including that of the most advanced and powerful new technologies. The essence of success at leveraging12 resources is managing people and their behavior. With the introduction and development of the idea of employee empowerment, organizational behavior is now being determined13 by the participation14 of more people throughout the organization rather than just a few senior level managers.I would very much like to study these trends - what exactly are the roles that employees and employers play in modern organizations? What impact do these changes in organizational behaviors have on the social and economic development of countries? In China, there are currently no outstanding professors in the field of organizational behavior. Textbooks are translated from other languages rather than written by native Chinese. My goal is to become the most outstanding professional scholar studying and researching Organizational Behavior in China. With China’s entry into the World Trade Organization, there will be tremendous changes and challenges in organizational structures. These changes must be studied and thoroughly15 researched so that successful practices can be identified. Models can then be developed to guide future Organizational Behavior practices in China. One of my goals is to write THE authoritative16 textbook on Organizational Behavior in China.I have chosen to pursue my Ph.D. abroad, in the field of Organization Behavior, due to a variety of factors. In the United States, study and research of management and organizational behavior in particular is much better developedand is at a much more advanced level than the rest of the world.I believe that studying in America can not only broaden my vision in this field but also help me to find ways of thinking and solving problems. In China, research in the social sciences has not progressed as quickly as research into the natural sciences and economic development. I grew up in an environment where there was only one right answer to the question, and that was dictated17 to us by the teacher or the government. People were not encouraged to question the way things were, and often would have to pay a price for thinking or acting differently. Of course, practices have been changing with the opening-up policy and governmental and economic reforms. But the opportunity for overseas study in the United States will not only provide a better research and study environment but also the rare chance to see the world and China through a different paradigm18.My past work and educational experience has given me many opportunities for research for various projects. In my MBA program, all of my courses required written papers and presentations, such as market research and business plans. I thoroughly researched every written paper to find the most up to date information with a tenacious19 pursuit of accuracy.During my undergraduate studies majoring in the English language, I not only learned the language but the culture and logic20 behind the language itself. This understanding has helped me to unlock the sometimes-obscure meanings in written work to get at the essence of the data and how it applies to my particular case.I have developed a study plan for successfully completing your Ph.D. program. First, I will aspire21 to grasp and thoroughly understand research methodology to lay a solid foundation for conducting serious academic research. Secondly22, I will complete the basic courses in organizational behavior and related fields while conducting some elementary research. Third, I will study the present theories and practices in the field while observing the development of organizational behavior in China. Finally, I will thoroughly research organizational behavior in China and try to contribute innovative23 theories leading to effective practices.I believe that my love for education is due mainly to the fact that I was born into a teaching family. Both of my parents and my elder sister are teachers. I embraced the love of learning at an early age, excelling as early as elementaryschool when I was chosen as one of only three students admitted to the best middle school in our province. My role model and inspiration has always been my father. My father was born into a very poor family and was the only child to survive while all of his brothers and sisters died of disease and malnutrition24. My grandmother (over the objections of my grandfather) insisted that my father go to school rather than to work in the fields. Since then, he has continuously studied the agricultural field for years and wrote the first ever laws and regulations in China regulating the agricultural economy while simultaneously25 earning the respect and appreciation26 of high-level government officials in the ministry27. My father has always encouraged me to achieve and excel, even though as a female in China such a pursuit is usually discouraged, if not impossible. His will to survive against all odds28 and his never-ending pursuit of education have given me the inspiration to follow his example and never let adversity stand in the way of achieving excellence29 to the fullest of my abilities. The Confessions30 by Rousseau stated that the least knowledge acquired by humans is knowledge about humans. Knowing yourself and fellow mankind are extremely importantin life as well as in management. Through earning my Ph.D. from your school, I hope to be able to contribute to other people, my country, society and life as a whole by realizing self-actualization and self-fulfillment through the study of organizational behavior. There was a careful avoidance of the sensitive topic in the scholastic circles.

Personal statement for a Ph. D. Program
Graduating next semester with a B.S.in Theoretical Physics, I'm dying to attend the State University of Michigan for Ph.D.study both for deeper knowledge and practical skills in this field. My main interest, among the concentration of your Ph.D. program of Physics is in cold atom physics.
I received my master's degree in Theoretical Physics from xx University, which is a double-class university. Three years of postgraduate study has laid a solid foundation for my theoretical knowledge and I also learned how to do scientific research efficiently. During that period, I have developed a strong interest in cold atom physics. Through study, I have a more comprehensive understanding of this field, and I also have new research result in a small branch of the field. Taking the study of Beliave damping in the Spin-Orbit-Coupling system as an example, the SOC system is the coupling of the orbital angular momentum and the angular momentum in the atom. This interaction is very weak, but it has a great influence on the whole system. The calculation results show that the particles move only in one direction when they decay, leading to anisotropy, which changes the properties of the system. This study shows that there will be new physical phenomena in the SOC system, which also provides theoretical basis for the experiment. In addition, I am now working on topological fermions, which is a very new field to explore, and I believe there will be more interesting things to do.
I have learned that the Ph.D. program in Theoretical Physics at the State University of Michigan enjoys a worldwide reputation and the study of cold atomic physics is especially powerful. The strong academic atmosphere and excellent teaching resources will greatly advance my research.
With solid theoretical foundation and preliminary research results in this field, I believe that studying for a Ph.D.Program will enable me to carry out further scientific research, I hope you will give my application every consideration.。
