The natural order of the first 12 elements, discovered approximately 450 years ago, made it possible for the elements to be placed on a chart consisting of rows and columns, such that elements sharing a column were discovered to have similar characteristics. My personal philosophy is that money and social status should not be pursued as life-consuming objectives and that in actuality they are the by-products of goals originating from one’s inner needs. I understand that my intellectual capacity is a gift, and I intend to use this gift to the very best of my substantial capabilities4.I am interested in the field of study of Organizational Behavior. In the past, I have had the experience of workingin settings where the people and the corporate5 cultures of the companies were all different. I have found that there isa great difference in the both the behaviors of people and oftheir organizations, depending on whether they are state-owned enterprises (SOEs), large multinational6 firms, or small to medium sized foreign enterprises. One simple example is that of the ability of an employee to act independently without direct instructions from his or her boss. These organizations have comparatively higher operating efficiency and employees enjoy greater job satisfaction.My research and observations have shown me that only a small fraction of Chinese employees are well adapted to the working methods of the foreign enterprises. What accounts for the different behaviors of these people and their organizations? My observations and personal experience have greatly aroused my interest in studying this subject. 写自述即使对以英语为母语的北美学生也是颇费心力的事情，对中国申请者来说，用英语写作本来就是困难的事，更何况自述是为了表现和包装自己，有违我们的文化习俗，写起来往往备感吃力。
中国申请者往往没有面谈的机会，这份文件因而愈发显得重要。
我们要忠告所有的申请者，你必须抓住机会，充分而且恰如其分地表现你的人格力量、智慧和已取得的成就。
在此文件的创作中要花大量的精力，决不能知难而退，草率从事。
你已经花费了多年的心血，完成了大学甚至是研究生的学习，你也可能又在随后的工作岗位上积累了宝贵的经验，现在又通过艰苦卓绝的努力，成功地考过了TOEFL 和GRE。
然而，你的任务并没有结束。
你必须静下心来，有条不紊地处理多种文件，而其中自述是重中之重。
怎样真正地把此项工作当作重中之重呢？那并不是赶紧去习一本所谓范例然后照着抄，而是要借此机会严肃、认真和全面审视自己的才能、潜能、店铺的目的。
这种对自己的能力、向往和追求的透彻的了解是写好自述的基础。
根据编者在国外求学、工作的经验，可以这么说，在写好自述这件事上，中国留学生可以说是遇上了一个深层次而且是重大的文化差异。
所谓“深层次”就是说这个差异不是西方人喝咖啡中国人喝茶、西方人称“Darling”而中国人称“孩子他妈”那样简单。
北美的许许多多的“雇主”-----大学的录取评审者，确实是非常重视求职者、求学者对自身是否了解，对自己的前途和目标是否明确。
在他们的文化中，这样的自我了解被视为是人的素质中很重要的一部分。

Personal statement for a Ph. D. Program
Graduating next semester with a B.S.in Theoretical Physics, I'm dying to attend the State University of Michigan for Ph.D.study both for deeper knowledge and practical skills in this field. My main interest, among the concentration of your Ph.D. program of Physics is in cold atom physics.
I received my master's degree in Theoretical Physics from xx University, which is a double-class university. Three years of postgraduate study has laid a solid foundation for my theoretical knowledge and I also learned how to do scientific research efficiently. During that period, I have developed a strong interest in cold atom physics. Through study, I have a more comprehensive understanding of this field, and I also have new research result in a small branch of the field. Taking the study of Beliave damping in the Spin-Orbit-Coupling system as an example, the SOC system is the coupling of the orbital angular momentum and the angular momentum in the atom. This interaction is very weak, but it has a great influence on the whole system. The calculation results show that the particles move only in one direction when they decay,leading to anisotropy, which changes the properties of the system. This study shows that there will be new physical phenomena in the SOC system, which also provides theoretical basis for the experiment. In addition, I am now working on topological fermions, which is a very new field to explore, and I believe there will be more interesting things to do.
I have learned that the Ph.D. program in Theoretical Physics at the State University of Michigan enjoys a worldwide reputation and the study of cold atomic physics is especially powerful. The strong academic atmosphere and excellent teaching resources will greatly advance my research.
With solid theoretical foundation and preliminary research results in this field, I believe that studying for a Ph.D.Program will enable me to carry out further scientific research, I hope you will give my application every consideration.。
