概念模糊，导致在考试中屡屡失分。
在我多年的英语教学实践中，有一个令我印象很深的问题，感到很有必要向学生们解释清楚。
这个问题在实际的练习和考试中，正如前面我所说的，令许多学生迷惑不解。
这就是三个很相近的进行提问的三个短语，分别是howlong，how soon和how often这三个提问时间的短语，面对它们，有些同学总是雾里看花，搞不清楚。
下面，我就由浅入深的解释这三个短语的实际用法。
首先，要弄清它们之间的区别，我们不妨先从long，soon，often这三个基本的单词人手，请看下面三个句子：He has been here long.He will be here soon．He often comes here.在这三个句子中，long的意思是指“一段长的时间”，而soon是“不久以后”，often的意思则表示“次数很频繁”，学生们对这三个词一定不会感到陌生，而对这三个问句的提问，就分别用到了howlong, how soon, how often:How long has he been here?（他来这儿多长时间了？）HoW soon will he be here?（他多久以后到这儿？）How often does he come here?（他多久来一次？）通过这三个句子，我们分析一下，加以推理，可以得出下面的结论。
how long提问的是表示“一段时间”的状语，如：for a year(-年)，for half an hour(半小时)，since two years ago(自从两年前)，since last week(自从上星期)等；how soon提问的是表示“未来的一段时间以后”的状语，主要体现在“in+-段时间”这个特定的短语上，在这里，in 的含义并不是地点介词的意思，而是用于在将来时间上表示“在……后”，如：in a week（一星期后），in half amonth（半个月以后），in a centur(-个世纪以后)等，而像“after a wee k，after three days”这样的时间短语是不能用how soon进行提问的，而是用when这个特殊疑问词进行提问；how often则提问表示频率的时间状语，如：ever day, sometimes，once a week(每周一次)，four times a day(每天四次)，ever other day(每隔一天)等。
