Tips
Do you know the boy to whom she was talking? Do you know the boy (that) she was talking to? The pencil (which / that) he was writing with suddenly broke.
2. 要确认关系代词前用什么介词, 需根据从句中的动词与先行词的关 系来确定。所以解题时需分析从句 与主句之间的关系。

Unit 5 Period 2Ⅰ. 阅读理解AWhen the natural climate changes due to global warming, it can surely affect seals. The majority of them live in the Antarctic region, so as the ice is melting, their natural habitat can be seriously affected. These changes don’t take place overnight. They can be the result of many years of additional temperatures in the area. The seals then have to find ways to adapt.Seals depend on the cool air currents to bring plenty of food for them. When the temperatures get higher there is less and less food and the seal population starts to shrink. Mothers aren’t healthy enough to feed their babies. Many of them end up abandoned as the mothers have to leave to find their own source of food. The fact that their desire to produce young can be changed by the warmer temperatures is frightening, too. It is also believed that the warmer temperatures can allow different diseases and viruses to attack the seals. This is a huge concern as they can rapidly wipe out huge numbers of seals out there. However, these changes in climate and temperature aren’t all bad for other species of seals. Scientists have found that those living in warmer climates are producing more young due to the changes. Research also shows that the females are moving further to find food and water. When they are out of the reach of the governing males, they are more willing to accept the moves of other males in the group. This is good news too because it means that there will be more selection in the gene pool(基因库)for future generations. It can help the seals as a species adapt to change in their natural environment more easily. The climate change problem for seals is directly linked to humans. When we take action to change what we let out into the environment, we will make positive changes for the seals. However, it is going to take a very long time to reverse (彻底改变)the effects of what has already been done.【语篇概述】本文主要介绍了气候变暖对南极地区海豹的影响。

No doubt there are ups and downs in life. Whatever the situation is, you shouldn’t lose your joy of life. Life is for a limited period only and no one knows how long he/she will live, so why do you waste your precious time in worrying about the things that are beyond your control? Be happy, and enjoy your life unconditionally(无条件地).You enjoy good days but you also need to learn how to enjoy bad days, even enjoy your pain. In 2016 when I was in Geneva, Switzerland, I suffered a sudden heart attack. My colleagues called an ambulance and I was taken to hospital with much pain in my chest. Before reaching hospital, I was totally exhausted with pain and was going to lose con trol of my emotions. Then the doctor in the ambulance said, “Don’t worry; you are in safe hands.” His words took away all my pain because I started realizing that it was no time to worry about pain and it’s time to be happy that my life was safe. At that t ime, Ilearnt an important lesson that in pain there is a hidden joy and whoever sees the bright side can enjoy pain. My pain turned into a joy which greatly helped me recover more quickly than expected. You not only enjoy success but you also need to learn to enjoy failure. Failure provides you with an opportunity to benefit from so many choices you’ve made. Celebrating failure will raise your morale and make you more powerful and determined to achieve success. We all make mistakes in life but only the courageous(勇敢的)people not only laugh at their own mistakes but also let other people laugh at them and then they reach success without any spiritual burden(负担). A person who learns from mistakes and knows how to turn the bad situation into his/her favor is the most intelligent person and really enjoys his/her life.【答题】( ) What does the author mainly tell us in the first paragraph?A. Life is full of ups and downs.B. People’s lives only last a limited period.C. We should enjoy our life unconditionally.D. Bad situations can be changed into good ones.【答案】C【分析】本题考查主旨大意。

课时素养检测十八Unit 5 Period 2Ⅰ. 阅读理解AIt’s OK to say you’ve never heard of grime—unless you’re from the UK. That’s because this music genre was invented in the UK in the early 2000s.To someone who’s not familiar with underground music culture, it’s ea sy to get confused between hip-hop and grime since they are both noisy. And many people didn’t bother to tell them apart, until earlier this month when grime stars like Stormzy and JHus led this year’s Mobo—“music of black origin”—award nominations (提名) in the UK.Just like UK electronic music and hip-hop, from which grime drew influence, it mostly reflects the thoughts of young people. But different from hip-hop, grime singers sing in dialects(方言) with strong accents, giving a special flavor to their songs.Lady Leshurr, known as the“Grime Queen” said that she once tried to hide her accent, as she didn’t want people to judge her. But one day, she realized that she didn’t need to change herself just to please others. And there’s no doubt that this is the most basic and important quality of grime music: be yourself. Also different from the hip-hop culture, which usually focuses on being rich, grime singers pay more attention to social matters like the European refugee(难民) problem and the gap between the rich and the poor.Although still quite young, grime seems to be getting favored by more and more people. In 2016, the English grime artist Skepta won the Mercury Prize with his album Konnichiwa, beating big names like David Bowie and Radiohead. However, no matter whether grime is one day accepted by the mainstream music world or not, one thing is for sure: in grime, singers always stay true to themselves.【语篇概述】本文为说明文。
