翻译目的文本类型翻译策略以《红楼梦》的两个译本为例谭卫国(上海师范大学外国语学院,上海200234)[作者简介]谭卫国,男,上海师范大学外国语学院教授,硕士生导师,研究方向为翻译学、应用语言学。

“归化”和“异化”,作为两种主要翻译策略,在翻译过程中广为运用。

关于归化与异化的选择问题,郭建中于1998年提出了四个制约因素:翻译目的、文本类型、读者要求和作者意图[1]。

德国学者雷斯(KatharineReiss)认为,文本类型是影响译者选择恰当翻译策略的首要因素[2],然而,译者在翻译实践中选择翻译策略时往往受翻译目的影响。

根据翻译目的论,翻译目的决定翻译策略。

随着翻译研究的文化转向,国内学者发表了不少讨论影响翻译策略选择之因素的论文。

有些学者探讨了翻译目的对翻译策略选择的影响;有些学者探究了文本类型与翻译策略的关系。

迄今为止,尚未出现将翻译目的、文本类型和翻译策略相结合同时加以探究的成果。

本文以翻译目的论与文本类型理论为指南,以《红楼梦》的两个译本为研究对象,结合典型实例分析,探讨翻译目的对文本类型转换和翻译策略选择所起的重要作用。

一、相关理论探讨本研究关涉三种理论,分别简述如下。

1.翻译目的论。

翻译目的论的代表人物是德国的翻译家威密尔(Hans J. Vermeer)和诺德(Christianne Nord)。

他们认为翻译是有目的的行为,决定翻译目的的最重要因素是译文受众,翻译过程中所采取的翻译策略不是由原文或原作者决定的,而是由译文的预期功能即翻译目的所决定的。

诺德于2001年提出了翻译的三个目的:译者从事翻译活动的一般目的(比如挣钱);译文在译入语语境中的交际目的(如启迪读者);译者选用某一翻译策略的具体目的(比如使用异化旨在忠实于源语文本)[3]。

翻译目的论的Skopos主要指第二个目的,即实现目的语语篇的交际功能,而这一目的在具体翻译实践中往往需要译者与委托人(Commissioner)或者发起人(Init[来自]iator)协商后定夺。
