service you, madam?

L: I’d like to register a room, please.

R: All right. Have you ever made a reservation?

L: Yes I have.

R: Excellent! May I have your full name, please?

L: Of course! Luna Luo.

R: Wait a moment, oh …yes! Madam, please show me you ID

card. L: Here you are.

R: ok, thanks. How long do you intend to stay in Tokyo?

L: For about seven days.

R: what kind of room do you require? A double room with

double beds?

A double room with twin beds? Or a single room?

L: I’d like a single room with a bath, and what’s the

rate, please? R: the current rate is 10 000 yen per night. L: that’s a little high. I’m told your hotel is

offering a discount, now. R: yes, we were, but the offer

ended yesterday. I’m sorry.

L: oh, I see. What services come with that?

R: For 10 000 yen you’ll have a radio, a color

television, a telephone and a major international newspaper

delivered to your room every morning.

L: That sounds not bad at all. I’ll take it. By the way,

I’d like a quiet room away form the street if that’s

possible.

R: No problem. A quite room away form the street is

preferred. Excuse me, madam, what about your breakfast? Will

you be happy to have a proper Japanese breakfast in your room

or have it at the breakfast buffet? L: I think I’ll have my

breakfast at the breakfast buffet.

R: That’ll be fine. Well, it’s all right, Luna. Could

you sign your name here, please?

L: Sure.

R: Thanks. Your room number is 202. Here’s your key. The

room bellman will show you to your room. I hope you’ll enjoy

your stay. The check-out time is 2 P.M of seventh day later.

L: thank you.

R: My pleasure. Good luck!

Scene Two

V: Good morning, laundry department. Can I help you? L: Yes, I want to have my dress dry-cleaned and ironed.

attend a party this evening.

V: I’m sorry, madam. If you have any laundry, please

fill in the form in

his room and just leave the clothes in the laundry bag

behind the bathroom door. The laundryman will be there to

collect it at 2 P.M every after

L: Oh, That’s too complicated; can I just send my

clothes here?

V: I’m sorry you can’t. That’s the regulation here.

L: Oh, no!!! I wish to make a complaint. I’d like to see

the manager, please.

V: Ok.

M: I’m the manager here. What can I do for you madam?

L: I want to have my dress laundry and send it back

before 6 P.M this evening, but your valet says I have to fill

a form and put it into the bag to wait for the laundry man to

collect it. It’s difficult for me! I can’t understand the

form. It’s written in Japanese!

M: Ok, I see. I’m sorry to hear about that. It’s the

rule of our hotel, but I can help you to fill in it. Is it ok?

L: Yes! It’s very kind of you! (Filling in the form in

room 202). M: Please tell me or you can notify in the list whether

you need your dress ironed, washed, dry, cleaned or mended.

L: I’d like my dress dry-cleaned and ironed, what if

there is any laundry

damage?

M: In such a case, the hotel should certainly pay for it.

The indemnity shall not exceed ten times the laundry.

L: That sounds quite reasonable. I hope there’s no

damage at all. M: Of course, it will be not.

L: When can I have my laundry back?

M: We’ll deliver it before 5 P.M, I guess! Don’t worry

madam; the laundry department has wide experience in their

work.

L: Excuse me. My money is not enough. I want to exchange

some RMB for yen.

M: Oh, you’re from China. So I suggest you can exchange

your money in the Bank of China. Do you have a map?

L: Yeah, here you are.

M: Ok, let’s see it. Keep going straight for two blocks,

and then turn right. You can see the Bank of China on your

right.

L: All right! Thank you for your help.

M: You’re welcome. Is this your first time to come to

Tokyo? L: Yes.

M: Which course do you take?

L: I’ll take the course that stop at Hakone.

M: Oh, I see. But every April, the Japanese celebrate

Cherry Blossom Festival. The ground is covered by a carpet of

pink and white petals when

the sakura falls.

L: It must be beautiful scenery, so I won’t miss it.

Thank you for your advice!

M: My pleasure. Have a great time in Tokyo.
