The cultural invasion of the American film
According to a recent survey, the movies which are introduced from Hollywood account for forty percent of total box office earnings. In this case, some domestic scholars express concern that it is a form of cultural invasion, while other people think the view is exaggerated. For my part, it is necessary to pay attention to this problem and spare no effort to solve it. The Hollywood movies which include political ideas, personal heroism, violence and extreme socialist thought have a detrimental impact on our culture and ourselves.
Firstly, one detriment of Hollywood movies reflect in political ideas involving in the movies. American movies wantonly distort and smear the image of a nation which is considered as eyesore for America. For example, Hollywood sometimes hire Chinese-American to play the role which smears our nation. In addition the United States army in the war movies frequently appears as interpol to maintain the international order.
Secondly, Hollywood blockbuster is also filled with personal heroism, which is common in the western capitalist countries like United States, however, it is the opposite of Chinese collective thought. When personal heroism is transplanted into Hollywood movies, we see many classic screen images such as James Bond, Rambo and Superman. They sometimes ignore the government and are free to do their favorite things. Imagine that: If this personal heroism spreads unchecked in China, all the people in our country would become self-centered and dare to challenge to the government, leading to the whole country fall apart.
Furthermore, Hollywood movies often include extreme socialist thought—venality and by hook or by crook. It is obviously corroded our thought, especially that of the new generation of Chinese youth whose plasticity is strong.
The Hollywood movies which spread political ideas, personal heroism, violence and extreme socialist thought is harmful–often to the detriment of our culture and ourselves. The popularity of Hollywood blockbuster which can give a rise to a profound influence must bring to our attention. If we don’t take effective measures, it finally would make us succumb to foreign culture and abandon our own culture and nation. The next time you watch certain Hollywood blockbuster at the movie theatre, think about it: whether it has adverse effect on us.。
